Check on Women's Health. There is a long discussion about side effects of going off the pill and losing the weight you gained.

Hi Flax Girl,
I've been taking the pill for the past 4 years. I started with Ortho, and I gained 10 lbs. So I talked to my gyno and he switched me to Yasmin, which can cause weight gain but it the least likely too. So I've been on Yasmin ever since, and I lost that extra 10lbs, and about 15lbs. after that! Good Luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

holy cow, that is great! i would love to lose a few pounds. i'm currently using the patch (no weight gain) cuz i always forget to take my pill! so, do u attribute your weight loss to only the pills, or did u diet/excercise as well?
also, did yasmin cause any mood swings for u? i know everyone is different, but i'm crazy 1/2 the time ever since i switched. my dr. says there's nothing she can do .

Head over to the womens health board, there is a thread about yasmin and side effects. It was the pill that I was on most recently, but I've given up on the pill for good. All I can say is I wish I had done it sooner. Good luck.

I went on Levlen ED and it actually caused me to lose my appetite so I ended up losing weight! You should still be losing weight if you don't have an increased appetite however, I never thought that the pill actually caused you to gain weight. The only reason you gain weight is because your appetite is increased.
I'm not completely sure though?

At the time I did not exercise or diet when I lost the original 10 lbs. that I had gained from the pill. After I lost the first 10lbs. I decided to add exercise and diet then lost the extra 15lbs. But since I switched pills I haven't had any major weight gain, so I think that Yasmin was a very good switch! I never have mood swings on Yasmin either. I used to get bad mood swings when I was on Ortho but I was also taking Xenadrine at the time so I'm sure that added to the moodiness. Hope I helped! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am on Yasmin and have gained about 6 pounds, but this is my first BCP. Don't get too carried away by the claims of weight loss because the only reason for this is that Yasmin is a diuretic, meaning you will lose water weight. So for people who experience bloating and water weight taking the pill, Yasmin may be a good choice. Going off the pill also sometimes helps people lose weight. Everyone is different.

Hello, I was on Trilevlen and am now on Desogen. Both BCs have about weight gain on the little pamphlet that comes with them. They say the average weight gain is 5-8 lbs. There was a study done on BCs with teenagers, and the study said that the teenagers didn't gain anymore weight than what they would normally gain due to body changes from age. (Don't know what good that study would do me, since I'm 40.) I have found that it is easier to keep the weight off with a low-fat diet and exercise. I exercise an average of 45-60 min. per day and take in 1400 cal. and 16-27g. fat. You have to count calories as well as total fat on a low-fat diet or it won't work. It doesn't sound like it, but it is a lot of food. The thing to remember is that I am short, so I can't get away with the same amount of calories a taller person would...but then I don't think I could fit much more in my tummy. I eat a lot of fruit and vegies...basically as much as I want. I eat 1-2 servings of protein and 5-6 servings of grains. (pasta, rice, bread)My theory, which might or might not be correct, is that since the BC pill mimics pregnancy, it stores fat easier and quicker.
