View Full Version : GF had sinus infection, then 2 insane migrains...help!

My gf has a history of sinus issues, finally 2 weeks ago, had a bad sinus infection. One week into taking the anitbiotics, she woke up with the most extreme migrain behind her right eye, crying, dry heaving, the whole nine. had to go to the emergency room to get pain meds and a shot. Same thing happened a week later. CT scans came up negative for anything problematic.

Now...she went to see a Ear, Nose, Throat Dr today who was the rudest dr she has ever dealt with (she says). He basically made her feel like an idiot for even coming in. Said there is no such ailment (Migrain, or something smiliar) steming from severe sinus problems. Said she needs to see a Neuro (which she already is). Hands her a prescrip, without even telling what the hell it is, and says take it for 5 days. Now, I know for a fact that what he said is total BS. After an infection, even up to a few weeks, ones sinus cavity can become so bloated with bad bacteria that a butt load of pressure is built up and causes these "migrain like" headaches. Can anyone chime in here? tx much

Said she needs to see a Neuro (which she already is).
That is correct. When was the last time she saw one? She needs to contact the Neurologist ASAP & let him/her know exactly what is going on. Hopefully, she is seeing one that specializes in headaches/migraines.

Good luck!

I would definatley contact the neurologist and let him/her know what was prescribed by the other doctor. Find out if it's even worth getting the prescription filled. You said you weren't even sure what he gave her. I would definatley look up whatever it is and find out what it's for. Hopefully, she can get in to see the neurologist right away.

Also, has she ever thought about seeing a chiropractor for her sinus problems. Don't know if she would be interested, but it really does help.

I know for a fact that sinus problems can cause, or at be related to, migraines. I got a bad sinus infection in January 2005, and it triggered a bad migraine that has not gone away since. I'm surviving on Topamax and narcotic pain meds. My docs think that my mold allergies may trigger my chronic sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses) and that this inflammation leads to both sinus infections (I've had several since January) and to migraines.

I know that every time that I have had a sinus infection (I usually get 1-3 a year) that I had a migraine that accompanied it. So yes, I do believe that there is a correlation between sinus issues and migraines.

That ENT doctor should have a complaint filed against him! Some doctors are so arrogant. It is total bull that you can't get a migraine from a sinus infection. The worst headache I ever had in my life was from a sinus infection and I get migraines every month with my period, so I know about headaches! Hope your girlfriend feels better now. If I were her, I'd find another ENT next time.
