Hey all
I have been smoking for 26 years and am weening myself off cigarettes.
I am a two pack a day smoker.
I started with 10 a day for two weeks.
Then 5 a day for two weeks.
Then 3 a day for a week.
Now two a day for a week.
Tomorrow I am going to try to quit altogether.
It is going to be very hard but I really want to do it.I think that's the key.
Another key ,I think,is to not use any excuse to start smoking again. There will always be something you can blame it on.
Wish me luck.
Mike

YOU CAN DO IT MIKE!!!!!! :)
As most of us here tend to say, "If I could do it, anyone can do it!"
Think positive thoughts, be of strong mind, IE; "I HATE cigarettes!", exercise, keep busy, real busy, and try to stay relaxed these first few weeks. Think of how every pack not bought, is a gallon and a half of gas!! ...and your lungs will love you!!

Hey guys
The last two days have been 2 cigarette days.I can't believe that I only smoked two a day as I am a very heavy smoker.
Well I am officially out of tobacco.I roll my own at 80 cents per pack.I kinda wish I was paying full price as most people. That would be a big,big incentive to quit.
Tomorrow will be a nicotine free day.
Wish me luck

Try again bud! I'm a little past day 2 here.....just a tad on the irritable side.....ready to explode on next person who asks,"So how's it going?"
Noticed eyesight and sense of smell better on first day of quit...never noticed on previous quits.
Also appears brain cells awakening ...however not in pleasant way ....feel more stressed ...tempted to trade in cells for a little brain rot ala smoke.
I made a little "pacifier" for smokers, it's a half smoked cigarette. Ya know how those things smell, well those things smell pretty good when your trying to quit. I whiff it when I need a fix and when driving use like regular cig ..just don't light. :)

through m y2nd quit i did that. i would not smoke all day and then when i got home i usually open the mail with a cup of tea and a cig. i would light it,not put it in my mouth and just let it burn down. did this for 2 days and then started cleaning the bathroom or doing laundry until i was home for a while. then went to the mail and didn;t need to light up anymore. i am trying to plan my 4th quit and keep putting it off. i just can't seem to get there. i cannot work for awhile when i first quit so i am trying to pick a time when i am off for a little while. good luck to all and hopefully before long i will be an ex-smoker also.

You know yourself best angel54, if you need time off ....i assume more than your usually 2 days off, wait for the right time. No sense to pressure yourself as others are always willing to take that role. I quit on my day off as I needed a headstart on the pressures of work. Home is a little less stressful, although there tends to be challenges there also, eh? :)

DaVinci--- you got that right. home is usually calmer but i live with 2 smokers. the job is physically and mentally stressful not that i haven't quit at night and went to work the next day. i see my dr. wed and i know i will get yelled at. i tend to get vocal cord polyps. had one surgery 5 years ago and get checked every 6 months for pre-cancer cells. STUPID!!!!! my voice is a little hoarse so i know my dr. willpick up on it. see the specialist in oct and he actually does an ultra-sound in his office with the old vocal cords on the screen. think about it all the time. look at my losenges every day. don't know if i can handle the job and quitting since i work with 20 smokers and that obviously is the big thing at break time. the last quit i told everyone i was quitting and that i wouldn't be able to take break with them for awhile. they started sooooo much trouble because i wasn't talking to anyone alot. how mean is that? i have a lot of time off. wek in dec another in april and i am off all summer. i know i can do it, it's just a matter of when. thanks for the support and imput.

Of course you can do it Mike! 15 days here...at approx 7 bucks per pack per day that's what??...$105! Never mind the gas to drive to the store!
The main reason for most folks is the health side ....but hey whatever works for you, good luck my friend....we're all rooting for you! :)

Hey Mike...
The 1st week is tough...can't expect anything good to be an easy thing! Hang in there, it does get easier. Stay busy too, keep your mind busy (especially) to keep you distracted. You CAN do it! :)

Thanks guys
The last two weeks I quit for three whole days two different times. That's very very good for me.
I need to get past that third day.I am a heavy smoker and go into serious withdrawl. The fourth day is almost unbearable. It gets worse day by day for two weeks straight ,as I have quit before.
I kind of wish I was paying full price for my smokes .Then I would have quit for sure.
I roll my own at $.80 cents a pack.Money is not a driving factor.
Keep encouraging me guys,I can do this.
Mike

Keep up the good work Mike, remember you started this thread saying you were a 2 pack a day smoker. Years of abuse are difficult to erase....your brain says yes but the body seems to have it's own plan. So if monies aren't a driving force I'm sure the health has got to be....I'm officially in the heart attack age bracket...so got to stop pretending I'm gonna live forever. Assuming your up there to ...so gotta get serious and get this stupid monkey off your back. You can do it, bud! :)
