Hello...I am a 19 year old female. I have been on a diet since April. I'm about 5'1''-5'2''. I started off at 141 pounds. Over the past four months, I have successfully lost 13 pounds, bringing me down to 128. My goal weight is 120. I've been stuck at 128 for quite awhile now. I wanted to know how many calories I should be consuming each day to get myself down to 120...and then how many calories to maintain this weight? I only eat good foods, so finding what to eat isn't a problem. I walk a good 2-3 miles a day (thanks to going to a school with the 2nd largest campus in america) At night, I go on a walk/jog for about a mile. Any advice on how to get down to 120 and stay there? Thanks!

Sounds like to me its more of an exercise issue than a diet or calorie consumption issue. You need to add some resistance training to your routine 3 times a week 20 mins a time bare minimum. You say you go to a big school so I'm guessing you should have access to some gym equipment. Also walking will not help much toward breaking a plateau, you really need to step up your exercise routine a bit.

Hi. I'm also 19 and I weigh around 138, height 5'6". I was wondering how you got those first pounds off. I've been watching what I eat for a while now and haven't seen a difference. I walk/jog on a treadmill about once a week, I know I've gotta do that more and even though my campus isn't especially large, I do quite a bit of walking anyway. What initially started your weight loss? If I lost 10 pounds, then toned up a bit, I'd be really happy.

BoSox,

Just keep eating the same calories you have been to lose that approximately 1 pound per week. EVERYBODY plateaus for a LONG time eventually, partially metabolic resistance, partiallyy lower caloric requirements to support a lower weight.

As you SLOWLY approach that 120 figure, and youu will, you will have a good idea what is required to stay there. Perhaps the calories you are eating now might be close (sad, I know!:D) or perhaps you'll be able to add 100-200 calories. Look to lose that 8 pounds in something like another 4 months.
A slow-slow approach will better prepare you for the needs of MAINTENANCE.

There's no hurry to get to goal; just think always on how much better you look at 128 than at 141.

I wouldn't reccomend losing more then 2 pounds a week. My advice is eat 5-6 small meals a day. Eat a big breakfast and a light supper. If you get hungry between meals try some negative calorie foods like carrots or celery or oatmeal. Try to stay away from anything but water if youre trying to lose weight especially diet pop and fruit drinks. They have added sugar and diet pop is an appetite enhancer (apratame) I wouldd reccomend walking before your meals and try your best not to eat after 6:00
