I need to make an appointment to have an apicoectomy as well. I'm so afraid that I've put it off for 3 months. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago from someone who had it. It made me feel better because they said it wasn't that bad. I will make my appointment sometime this week. You should take a look at it.

Let me know how your surgery goes as soon as you feel well enough.

Good luck,

I posted a couple weeks ago about my Apico that i had done, and really it wasnt to terribly bad. I had absolutely no swelling although i did ice for the first 8 hours 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. They also did give me pain medication which i did need the next morning but i believe that's because i accidentally slept on that side during the night. Everyone hears surgery and thinks it's going to be very horrible when in fact it really was not bad. I ended up having a root canal on the tooth next to the one i had the apico on one week later and that was worse than the apico was. No worries, just remember to ice and you should have minimal swelling and bruising!! Best of luck to you!!

It's not too bad. Really. Wisdom teeth are worse. I was out the whole time (had both front teeth done) and can answer any questions if you'd like. Stitches tickled but didn't hurt, even coming out. Let me know if you want to know anything specific.

Good luck.

hello Border3899,

at first thanks for your reply, yesterday i had apico surgery , & in counter you i felt pain during the surgery because my tooth condition was very bad & the infection includes large area of the surrounding bones

the bad thing is the effect of the local anaesthesia had been lost very rapidly & i felt with every suture

i did ice on & off alternatively but today i have opvious swelling due to oedema in my upper lip , nose & cheeks

please tell me ...... how did you know that the operation is successful?

& how many days u required to eat on that teeth which had apico ?

I'm so sorry to hear you had a more difficult time, infection is very nasty and does have a bad effect on Local Anestesia. As far as how long before you know if it's successful, that i cant say forsure because i'm still un able to chew on that side that i had the apico because the tooth in front of the one that i had the surgery on was root canaled and is now giving me pain. The tooth that i had the apico on i can also still feel so i need to call the Endo to find out if i should still be able to feel it.....my feeling is that i shouldnt be able to two weeks after surgery but i'm no expert. I've basically not been able to chew on that side of my mouth since April so really for me it hasnt been an issue that it still hurts to chew....as i said though for me the pain i have now is not the apcio tooth but the one in front, the apico one i just feel when i push on it from the outside with my tounge or fingers....

Sorry i couldnt give you a little better insight...

I was out during my surgery, so I didn't feel anything. I did swell and the stitches tickled, but it really wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Are you taking pain medicine? Advil will help the swelling, too.

Good luck. Sorry to hear it was painful...

Happy healing...
