My husband is getting a tens unit or something simular for muscles spasms. Has anyone had any luck with this type of treatment. He has had aqua theraphy and PT and everyone has commented on how tight his back muscles are. He is 13 months post-op from a L5-S1 fusion. I'd like to hear about anyones success with this type of treatment. They have also prescribed muscles relaxors for him along with this unit.
Thanks,
Michelle

I had a RX stimulator and I felt it gave me some relief while using it, not really sure that it controlled my spasms but made the time I used it a little more comfy for me. I used it 4 to 5 times a day for 45 mins, sometimes I wouldn't take it off and just use it continuously.

Flexeril, a muscle relaxer worked for my spasms. I do have the IFS unit, which is similar but stronger than the TENS, but used it to help interrupt pain signals. Never heard of it for spasms, but that doesn't mean it isn't used that way. Hope it works to give him relief.

After P/T, I was given a TENs unit. I think it is great. I use it with ice pack on real bad days or just by itself if Im not too bad off. I use it for 30-45 mins. and I use it once or twice a day. I hope it works as well for your husband, as it has for me.
Keep us posted.

For me, nothing else has relieved the muscle tightness like water exercise has. Arm exercises especially, not just legs, as not just the lower but the middle back was tight. I do arm swishes and out to the sides up and down. Has he used a deep water aerobics belt? I just can't say enough about the arm exercises helping relieve the tightness, even more so than a massage.

He did aqua therapy but did not get much relief from that. Nearly every therapist he has seen has commented on how tight the muscles in his back are. I'm not sure he did the arm movement, but I know he was told to move his arms when he walks, but he doesn't much because everything hurts. What is a deep water aerobics belt?

I've had a back problem from a while back.I've had surgery PT Meds...I've asked 2 of my doctors for a prescription for a tens unit....for some reason the refused.
Well after years of this misery....I found a company online and ordered one....it's a couple hundred bucks....well spent. They do help with the pain and spasm....it's not a cure...but it may help your hubby a bit.I'm glad I have mine.

I have had one for about two years now. I used it every night for a year until i got a little more relief. It is a great thing to have because it hides your pain and i was able to fall asleep a little better. I dont know what i would do without mine becuase i still use it quite often!
