Ok now for the hair cuts. I've been asked to not bring Kemp back to five different salons. I've gone to "kids cuts" no luck.....Kemp use to have a VERY cute "bowl" cut. But do to Kemp kicking, hitting and braking things I was not able to keep that cut.(cus I wasn't able to find a salon that would do it) So I decided I would just buzz his hair. My husband and I thought oh he'll do good for us....NO!!! He still goes crazy!! My husband holds his body down I hold his head in a head lock hold and buzz as good as I can. He never lets me trim around his ears or his neck nothing it never looks good. I get strangers that say oh did he try to cut his own hair. LOL I just say ya. I've also tried doing this while he was asleep but he woke up. I am at a down fall for what to do. He needs a cut real bad. I feel that I've tried everything but if anyone has any suggestions or tricks I would be thankful! Thank you for the time.

Wow, his over sensitive because of his sensory issues like my son. Alan still cries, but I've mastered to do it fast, and be calm and not panic aling with his crying. He can cry and cry, but he needs a haircut. As for ignorrant strangers, with the same experience as you have. They will never know what it is like to have a special child. Let them be ignorrant. I sometimes wonder, who really is mentally challenged at times like that. I know it's aggrevating.
I really have no suggestion, except, just keep cutting regardless of the struggle. I tell my husband that I have to do it. He needs a haircut for the rest of his life. He had to get use to it.Regardless of his sensory issues.
Take Care,
Ingrid

Hi Kempsmom!
I have a son that just turned 4. Diag PDD NOS. He has some sensory issues. We've had the same issues with haircuts. I totally sympathize with you :-(
A couple of things I've tried: First...have tried doing this when he is in the bathtub. He enjoys a bath and is preoccupied at this time. He still doesn't like the hair to touch him and becomes very upset so I try to hold the hair and cut on the other side of my fingers so that when I snip it, I'm holding the hair; thus, none touches him. He still complains and gets upset but at least I'm able to somewhat get it cut. I have never taken him to a salon as I know that would be a disaster! Another thing I have tried is putting a towel around him and putting him in front of the mirror. This didn't work as well but I got the job done. I usually spend the next couple of days catching him involved in something and doing a little snip here and there where I missed. Lucky for me, he has curly hair so it all blends in :-)
Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. Kemp likes the bath but doesn't like his hair washed or his head touched but I am going to try this maybe it will help. I am willing to try anything once! Ya this last hair cut I thought I would let his bangs grow out so I just wanted to cut them alittle.....BIG MISTAKE....lol His bangs ya they were gone and crocked and up in to his other hair. It was by far the worst hair cut of history. It could of probably went in to the dictionary for meaning of the worst hair cut.lol
THANK AGAIN

I had the same problem with Joey. I had to resort to buzz him at home. He would freak out if we walked in to a hair salon to get my other childrens haircut. He eventually got used to the sound and feeling of getting his hair cut. At the age of 5 1/2 years old he finally was able to get his haircut at a salon. We bribed him with food. Now at almost 7 he loves getting his haircut. It is the only time I can get him to wash his hair without a struggle! He sits still and has a big smile on his face. He asks for a scooby doo haircut. (what that means I dont know) The stylist we go to now asks him if he wants a shaggy or scooby haircut.

I've had to put my 4 yr old in front of the tv w/ his favorite video and a bowl of dum-dum suckers! I manage to get a decent haircut for him but I cut MYSELF every time...trying to go too fast!!!

Hi Kempsmom! We Had The Same Problem For Years But As Aj Got Older (now 13) And Stronger The More Difficult It Became. So We Made The Best Investment We Could Have Ever Made In Our Entire Life!!! Robo Cut!!!! It Is A Divice That Attaches To Your Vacuum Cleaner It Cuts As It Sucks! No Mess!!
At First We Weren't Sure Because Of The Vacuum Noise But It Worked Out Great. Now Haircuts Are A Breeze. If You Decide To Try This Let Me Know How It Goes. Good Luck!!!!
