i feel so fat after reading some of the posts in here.. i'm 155 lbs, and am 5 foot 2, 15 years old. i know i'm not fat, but still.. my jean size is 32-34 in guys (i can't fit into girls jeans.. they fit me funny). these jeans barely fit anymore..
i need to lose weight. i ride my bike about 6 or more miles per day, if the weather's good. but my problem is over eating. i can't sit down and just have a sandwich for lunch. i have to have a huge side dish, and a huge surving size of everything.. lately i've been going to subway a lot.. or i have my gma watch my eating.. but she's not here 24/7, and there isn't always money for subway!
here's what i've eatten so far today, and i feel really hungry still.. and i've only been up since 2pm, it's now 9pm.
- two polish sasuages on hamburger rolls
- cucumber with a little salt
- 1 1/2 pares
- 1 footlong subway sub (turkey on wheat, with light mayo)
- 2 snapples (both diet, one cal-less, one with 20 cals)
- lipton iced tea (small)
some of the higher amount stuff (sub and pares), i had at diff times.. but i'm still hungry..
also, i'm on some medication.. i've heard that a few of them can cause me to be hungry a lot.. and i've talked with my dr about it. but i'd rather be happy than be skinny.
- paxili (30mg)*
- depakote er (500mg)*
- zyrtec*
- hydroxyzine (10-20mg)
- iron supplement w/ other viatmins (i'm boarder line anemic, and i refuse to eat a lot of meats.. i just can't eat them)
the ones with the *'s are the ones i take everday. the iron supplement i try to take everyday, but i forget most days, because i have to eat it with food, and i forget to take it when i do eat.
so, what i'm basically getting at is, does anyone have any suggestions of healthy foods to eat that i can eat a lot of, and be full from, but not get fat from?.. urgh..

Well I think your meds are playing a huge role in your appetite and weight.
Talk to your doctor about it more extensively, and let him know your concerns. It would also help if you logged what you are etc, so that he can get a better idea.
Have you ever had bloodwork done to test certain levels of things? Just routine bloodwork?
As far as wanting to know what food to eat etc, that would probably be best to talk over with your dr, since he knows your history, the meds you're on, and other factors.
Good luck!

i actually had blood work done either last week or the one before. i nearly passed out afterwards! they took three viels (i can't spell). i won't get the results until i go to my phyciatrist/md in a few weeks (i go once a month).
i have talked with my dr about the weight gain from paxil. so he put me on prozac.. that ended up with me in bed for 4 days. prozac ****ed up my system. so i'm kinda scared to try new meds, since these work..

Well then it's good that you had the bloodwork. Maybe it holds answers to questions you've been having.
it was also done to probably check your levels, with all the meds you're on.
I can't balme you for being scared to try new meds- especially with your experiences.
Keep us posted about your situation, and let us know if the bloodwork showed anything relevant to your problem!
Good luck!

i'll keep you guys posted!

Wow, 6 miles a day! At least you have the exercise part down! I would say drink lots of water (At least 64 oz. a day). And try to fill up on fiber which will keep you fuller for a lot longer. I would say that some of your medicine could be causing you to be hungrier. But also, if you eat a lot one day, your body is going to want to eat a lot the next day. If you subtract about 500 calories from your diet each day, your body might be a little hungry, but the next day it will be more used to it so it will be easier. Shoot for about 1500 calories a day. Try eating slower, I know sometimes we have a tendancy to eat as fast as we can. But when you slow down, not only do you savor the food more, but your body will be able to tell you when your full and you might not overeat.
Try not to go more than 4 hours without eating (except when you sleep), because your blood sugar can drop which makes you crave food and causes overeating. Most women are encouraged to have some food every 3 hours (around 400 calories) because this is good at preventing overeating.
I don't know if this would work for you, but I cut out all meat and dairy from my diet. I know this sounds extreme, but you eat so much more and consume less calories. I have rice milk instead of regular milk, and I eat lots of fish and beans for protein. And it sounds like you already eat your fruits and veggies.
I wish the best of luck to you!

hey, thanks! i'm going to try the 3 day diet thing. some people in the weight loss forum are talking about it and got me interested in it. my gma and my mom are going to help me. well, maybe not my mom. but i know my gma will. haha.
and yeah, i do ride about 6 miles each day, depending on how the weather and the traffic is. i know i atleast try to ride 4 miles. that'd be just from my place, to this one street in town, and turning right around and coming back. hahaha. so each day i ride at least 5 miles, give or take.
also, i don't eat a lot of meat, and i love my fruits and vegies. too bad we're out of em as of today. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif haha, i'll have to go next door and borrow some from my gma's fridge. haha

You diet could certainly use some tweaking.
It is heavy on the fat and carbs.
Subway? have half the sub, no mayo. Ask for the fat free italian dressing they give you for the salad and put that on your sub. Have a cup of soup with the sub.
Polish sausage? Very fatty choice. Get in the habit of looking at the nutrition labels of everything in the fridge and pantry. Choose things to eat that have 3 grams of fat or less per 100 cals. For instance, something that has 2 grams of fat in 75 cals would be ok. If something has 17 grams of fat in 200 cals, it is NOT ok. Try to shoot for 20 grams of fat each day. And don't eat tons of fat free stuff, it still has calories!
If you just try to eat what you know is better for you (no polish sausage!), eat lots of fresh, healthy veggies and fruits, drink lots of water, and exercise the way you are, you will lose weight without doing any crazy diet.

Yes your diet is a little high in carbs to be losing weight. All those unburned carbs will turn into sugar therefore storing as fat if unused. Try to encorporate some weight training into your exercise as well as riding the bike. Eat more proteins and make sure all drinks are either water or diet. Good luck u can do this!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi, I'm no expert on this, but I did do some reading on anti-depressents recently because my daughter was on one. If you were taking Paxil and stopped suddenly, that can cause some serious withdrawl symptoms, so it may not have been the new med. that caused you to stay in bed for 4 days. You can read lots nore about withdrawl as well as side effects from anti-depressents on the Depression board (and increased appetite is a common one.) Apparently some Dr.s don't know about these effects, since the drug companies tell them that they are non-addictive. Anyway, it sounds like you should discuss with your Dr., hopefully he may have some ideas.

Hi there..
Hamer has some good tips for you. I'm concerned about you being on the anti-depressant though. Doctors are too quick to put you on these meds. Do you keep a journal? Try keeping one for your daily eating habits-cutting back on calories gradually and keep a journal for your daily activities (exercise and other entertainment). Try adding to your exercise routine-your body may be too adjusted to the 5-6 mile bike ride so syou might want to increase or add variety to your workout. Remember muscle burns fat so try a light weight training session every other day-5 lbs weights @15-20 repetitions of each move. Oh-the subs-do you get whole wheat bread? Good fibre and lots of water every day!Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. And do eat your three meals a day.

I love macaroni and cheese too. Here is a tip, don't add the butter. You don't need it and you can't taste the difference with it being so cheesey anyway.

Working with with 5 lb weights has helped me. It seems that if I weight train 2-3x per week I can eat more and I don't gain. I also walk alot to help keep from being depressed. It works for me!
