Ever since the doctor took me off my bcp because my bp was slightly elevated it has become more elevated. Today I saw a cardiologist and I'm now trying 3 bp meds. to try and control my pressure.
I use to have very low blood pressure(106/64), but today my pressure was 160/110 at the doctor's office.
Anyone else having bp issue since experiencing peri/meno?
Anyone found the right med. to control their bp.?
Anyone found that using hrt helped their blood pressure?
HELP!

This is such an iffy hope, really blood pressure can happen during menopause for a lot of women. I can't say that HRT would help the blood pressure, i would probably go on a blood pressure diet. I know a friend of mine who is aorund our age went through bp problems during the change and when she got off of HRT and went on a diet, her bp went to normal. So it's an iffy thing, if it runs in the family, is it something you take med wise or did take, lots of things here. Keep us informed

Hopefully- if you are experiencing anxiety - that will raise your bp, and going to the doctors can definitely cause anxiety. The same thing was happening to me - so I bought a home monitor and started checking at home. At first, it was high - but after I got used to taking it - it starting calming down and now it seems fine. Try that before you go on medication. The doctors love to give you that medicine. We have to be our own doctors sometime for our own good.
Good luck

Hi Hopefully,
My bp was 170/110 when it was taken at the cardio office in July BUT I have having anxiety attacks.
I went on Paxil cr 12.5mg and now I have just gotten to the point where I can take my bp at home. This morning it was 102/69!
The paxil corrected the anxiety and so it corrected the high bp.
Arent' you taking wellbutrin????? If you are, you should know that wellbutrin needs to be used with caution in individuals with high bp. In fact occasionally it has been know to raise bp to sometimes dangerous levels.
Go to their website.
In your search for a solution, you might want to try something other than wellbutrin.
As for HRT, the only people I know who have taken HRT have actually DEVELOPED high blood pressure as a result of it so I can't really say that is a solution for you.
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Baby - when you go to the doc now - do you still have anxiety attacks or has the paxil made it so you are ok in the docs???

Hi rander5
I haven't had a chance yet to really give this a good test at the doc's office yet BUT I have to tell you that I was getting 160/100 at home and getting palpitations if I just looked at my bp machine. That has now disappeared!! Now it seems I can put the cuff on with the confidence that it is just going to be normal. The only thing I can attribut this change to is the Paxil.
I know the readings are accurate because I have 3 machines (yes I know very obsessive :D ) and they all register the same within a few points. My last bp at the doc's office I measured 130/82. This was a week ago but she said something to me before taking my bp that got me very upset which is why I think the measurement was a bit higher than it should have been
I go to my therapist this Monday. I am going to have her take my bp and see if I can get the same low readings I have been getting at home.

Unfortunately, I've been getting high readings at home for the last couple of weeks. I truly believe there are two reasons why my pressure is high...first being that I've been completely off bcp since Aug. 3, and second is because I haven't had a period in 41 days.
While I was on bcp my bp was a bit high, but nothing like what has been occurring the last couple of weeks.
I figured that oral hrt would cause elevated bp, but I'm wondering if this can be avoided by using the bioidentical hormone patch. Does anyone know?
Both my mother and sister are taking bp medications. My mother's bp became elevated after menopause, and my sister's bp also became elevated since going through perimenopause. She is taking Effexor, which is also known to elevate your blood pressure. I can not tolerate antidepressants in the SSRI classification. They seem to make me very spacey, derealization, and cause my symptoms to become worst. Wellbutrin has been the only antidepressant that I've been able to tolerate.
I'd like to stop taking Wellbutrin, but with my blood pressure issues I don't want to deal with withdrawals.

What exactly is a blood pressure diet? I'll do a search and see what's on the net, but I'd like to hear more about what worked for your friend.

The Blood pressure diet is the DASH diet as it is commonly known. I too have had my spikes of BP medication and just today went to have a pregancy test along with other hormonal tests. I will see the results hopefully soon.
