Hi I have been having a problem for the last few years and im tired of it and its for a change. Well to simply put it my breath smells like feces. Im not sure if it also smells like that wen i exhale from my nose but this might also be true. I have a capped tooth but i dont feel I lack dental hygiene so i feel it might be gum infection or something else like a throat infection. I need some suggestions towards helping me get rid of this problem. Thnx for reading

90% of bad breath originates from the bacteria in the oral cavity. Causes include--periodontal disease, tongue, dry mouth, food impaction areas between the teeth, carcinomas and throat infections. Try brushing with an electric toothbrush at least 2x/day for full 2 minutes, floss, scrape plaque and bacteria from tongue with tongue scrapper, rinse. Dry mouth, I have found to be the second culprit. This is usually a side effect of medications. Do the same oral hygiene routine as above but keep the oral cavity moist--sugar free gums/mints with Xylitol, lots of water, salivary substitute as necessary, alcohol free rinse if have dry mouth.

Other causes: tobacco use, GI related, diabetes, sinus infections, nasal passages, renal or hepatic failure.

Keep us posted as to what you find.

hm86 and Bwonnie,

Sounds like you both may have chronically infected tonsils. Those with cryptic tonsils gather food debris, oral debris and mucous (from post nasal drip) and produce white/yellowish stones (concentrated plaque) which pop out of the tonsil when hard or sometimes the tonsil releases a white secretion. If your tonsils are really deep you may have a factory going on in there. The odor is strongly feces and will not go away. It is also likely you have some nasal congestion hence the pnd and sulfur bacteria on the back of your tongue. Take a small flashlight and press on the tonsils with a qtip to see if you can see any stones coming out. I had mine removed but still have BB (though not as bad) because I still have chronic PND and acid reflux both of which caused the cryptic tonsils and stones in the first place. They are very common and most people swallow them unknowingly or cough them up. It is when the infection and pnd becomes chronic that they are a real problem and will produce stones constantly all day every day. They can also give you a feeling of something stuck in the back of your throat that you just cant clear although this is also a symptom of acid reflux.

Hope helps

I too have been suffering with not so pleasant breath for a while. It seemed like no matter what products I used nothing would help. My breath smelled like feces as well. I never had bad breath until I stopped going to the dentist and my wisdom teeth started growing in. Finally after trying a bunch of products with no help I decided to get my wisdom teeth removed. It helped tremendously with my breath. So I went to the dentist just to see if everything was ok and he said I had the beginning stages of gum disease. So I have to go in on monday to get a scaling which is where they scrape the tarter and stuff that is under your gums out. Gum disease has a very distinct smell too it and most dentists can tell right away when that is the cause of your problem. When you have gum disease your breath smells like feces. So I think you should get checked out by a good dentist. What I suggest you do is fight it from the inside out. I have done alot of research about bad breath and the main problem is the bacteria so I use toothpastes and mouthwashes that are specially made for bad breath. I have been using biotene toothpaste which is an anti bacterial and helps produce and strengthen saliva flow. I have been using peroxide and water as a mouthwash but just ordered this stuff called activ k12 from therabreath. It's a probiotic and kills off the bad bacteria and replaces it with the good stuff that people with no breath problem have. I also have started taking a probiotic for my digestion because bockage in your intestine and digestion problems can cause bad breath and even body odor. I use culturelle. I also make sure to scrape that tongue because bad breath usually comes from one of two places the tongue or dental problems( cavities, abcessed teeth, impacted teeth, gum disease, etc...). As much as it may make you gag you need to get all the way back there where those little bumps are. Last but not least change your diet. Don't eat much protien high protein diets cause bad breath. Try to eat a more ph balanced diet. Let me know if any of this helps you and if you have any questions just ask. I'll let you know how things go at the dentist.

To Ginger65
If you have bad reflux try using a probiotic like culturelle. It really helps that aaalllottt. It's a little pricey but within 2 weeks you will notice a difference. Have any of you ever tried using sinofresh for the nasal allergies?
