Hello everyone. I am new to these Boards and I am very grateful they exist! I recently moved across the country for a new job. When I had my physical with my new doctor, I received a pap that came back abnormal and showed high-grade abnormal cells. Then, I was told to go see an ObGyn because I would need to have colposkopy ASAP. That procedure was terribly uncomfortable and I would not wish it upon anyone. After that, I was told I would get a letter from the gynecologist in 2 weeks telling me about next steps. I actually got a call from her last week and she said the pathology report came back showing CIN 3 and a bunch of other stuff I did not understand. She also said she would be recommending surgery because the bad cells can be removed easily, and the recovery is fairly quick. My appt with her is today, and I would appreciate any feedback you can provide in terms of questions I should ask. Thanks for your help!

I gather your appointment is done with at this time. How did it go? Laser or Leep?
Just wanted to share this with you.
I'm 30, only had 2 paps in my life, once in grade 9 and then last dec to which the results were, the same as yourself, cin3. I had a leep, no big deal from my experience.
Please try to avoid stressfull situations and eat well, things will be fine. :)

Hey Calawvln, I am reight there with you. I actually had my pap done with my doctor right before I moved. After living in my new location for about 2 weeks, I got a call from my doctor saying that my pap came back abnormal, and that I needed to have a colposcopy. My first question was will it hurt? My doctor said all they do is shine a light basically in me to get a better view. Well, since I was in a new area, I had to find a new doctor. I found a female doctor(I refuse to go to a guy) and scheduled my appointment. Once I was in the room, I was shocked to find out they MAY be taking a sample. The nurse told me not to worry, it wasn't a big deal. So here I was meeting a new doctor and freaking out because I didn't know what was really going on. It turned out the she had to take 3 samples of my cervix. I really didn't have any pain during the colposcopy though. I was a little sore afterwards, but that was it. About a week later my doctor called me and said that the test came back severe dysplasia. They had thought it was only low grade. I was FREAKING out. My doctor said I needed to schedule for my LEEP asap. I got a call a few days later to schedule it. I actually had it done last week. My advice for you, ask to be asleep! My doctor said it would be over kill, but I could not handle the pain. I had the local anestesia, but it did NOT work! If your doctor will not put you to sleep, then ask her to make sure your are numb before she gets started. After my doctor left, I asked the nurse about it and she said usually the doctor will make sure you are numb before they begin. I wish you the best of luck. I know it is not an easy thing to go through. Stay Positive, that is what I have been trying to do.

Thanks for your message and I hope you are feeling better! Best of luck to you as you continue to recover. Here is my update: I just went to the doctor yesterday so she could review the pathology report with me. She said I need to have a cone biopsy, and D&C. Apparently I will be put totally under, but only for an hour. I called to get some surgery dates and they have 2 available in October- Wed the 5th and Wed the 19th. Part of me wants to get this done as soon as possible but the other part of me wants to wait, because of some major work meetings happening on the 7th. I'd prefer to be present for those meetings and if I do surgery on the 5th, I am told I should plan to stay home for the 6th and 7th. There is only a 2-week difference between the two dates, and apparently there is no danger in waiting. In fact, the doctor said that if I was pregnant right now, (which I am not), she would do nothing and wait until the baby was born to examine our options. Thanks for the good wishes.

Lynglf, I met with doctor yesterday. She would like to do a cone biopsy and D&C. I called today to get surgery dates. They gave me two options in October: 10-5 and 10-19. I prefer the 10-19 date b/c it allows me to take care of some important items at work that are already planned. I know I can truly enjoy the recovery (they say it is two to four days) if I do this on 10-19. Then again I hate to think that something could get worse down there between 10-5 and 10-19. Thanks again for responding so quickly. I am glad to hear that you are OK!
