View Full Version : So Sleepy In The Afternoons Now!

I am 48 and I'm definitely going thru Meno. I have been on Paxil for about 10 years for severe panic disorder. I must say the Paxil has helped me with the mood swings and the hot flashes tremendously.

I have been physically active all my life (us baby boomers grew up riding our bikes from one end of town to the other...........we didn't have internet, or video games!) I was even a certified personal trainer at one time. While I have slowed down on my exercising, I try to walk at least four times per week, and I TRY to get to the gym for weight workouts (not anything as heavy as I used to do) at LEAST twice a week.
I take Omega-3, green tea, garlic and vitamin c, biotin for my hair and vitamin E as well. I TRY. I'm by no means a perfect eater.
I am very overweight (although still athletic) because of the Paxil. I gained 40 lbs in a year, just from the paxil, but my legs are like rocks.

My biggest complaint right now is the 'sleepiness' that has seemed to hit me like a ton of bricks. For those of you who have had children, don't you remember when you were early in your pregnancy, and you were soooooo sleepy all the time?
Yesterday, I was fine - I walked almost 2 miles, went to the gym, but today again, I flopped into the bed about noon, and didn't wake up till almost three in the afternoon.

I get up, have my coffee and read the paper (I work part-time) and then, it seems instead of waking me UP, the coffee makes me sleepier. I don't know.....anyone else unusually tired now all the time?

(PS The Paxil does that too, because it really 'sits' on your nervous system to slow it waaaaay down,so that you don't have panic attacks. - Those almost drove me to suicide, and now i can say since the Paxil, I'm a new person.)

thanks

I was never able to drink coffee in the evenings before, but yes, I actually find that some days it makes me sleep better!
Hormones, aren't they great :)

I don't drink coffee, not for a long, long time. But I am going through the same thing you are, just fatigued in the afternoon. All my tests have been normal and I am definitely perimenopausal. Have you put on any weight?
Did you check out your thyroid?

Erynnsmama,

Do you think the biotin has helped your hair. If so what amount do you take what kind. I have thin and ugly hair since perimenopause. Thanks Linda M

I also went through the exhaustion in the afternoon. That was one of the reasons why I decided to try Wellbutrin, to boost my energy level. Although I am still taking the Wellbutrin every now and then I'll have days where I'm simply exhausted.

Yes!! It's exactly like first trimester sleepiness!! That's what makes me wonder if I've actually got too much progesterone right now. My Doctor suggested the bcp but I do not want to add any more progesterone (especially that synthetic stuff) to my system. I plan to try Maca root starting sometime next week. I'm hoping that will help.

Sorry i didn't answer you sooner. I always have a heck of a time getting back to these boards.
My two girlfriends that ive known for over 30 years BOTH have amazingly silky hair now, and they told me they were taking biotin. So, im trying it,and so far it seems to really be working. WHO KNEW????

Our two spoiled rotten Boxers sleep with me anyway, and they snore AND fart.........(kind of like sleeping with a man anyway ha ha(

How are you doing on the maca root? Never heard of that one. I can't take ANY herbs with the Paxil. Screws me up ROYAL.

But yea, sometimes the sleepiness feels just like someone sprinkled fairy 'sleep dust' over me........ha ha. Yes, just like first tri-mester pregnancy.
