Hello everyone. I have JUST gotten home from the hospital, and the first thing Ihad DH do is plug in my laptop so I could write you all. My surgery was tuesday morning, and its so odd to me that I am already back at home and its only thursday night! Crazy!

The surgery went amazingly well...I DID ask for a 'happy shot' when i first got there, and boy did that ever help! I truly didn't care what they did to me after that. The doc said that there were no signs of Endo, but he sent off all my 'stuff' to pathology and the findings were Adenomyosis. We had no idea that I had this of course, but I knew in my gut (no pun intended) that something was wrong with me and that's why I persued the surgery. I knew that having the surgery would relieve alot of pain issues for me even if my insides were totally healthy. BUT it was a relief to find out that I needed the surgery aside from that. It just goes to show you that you should listen when your body is trying to tell you something.

SO far, my recovery is going pretty well. Last night, I had a little 'freak out' moment where i couldn't breathe in because the gas pressure/bloating was so bad. It hurt terribly to breathe. So i panicked a bit, but it soon passed. I had a really hard time with the 'passing gas' thing. it took forever. Just one of those little things in life that we all take for granted until you can't do it! I never thought I'd be laying in a hospital bed praying 'please God, just let me fart!'...LOL :D

I was up today and did alot of walking and sat up in my chair for most of the day. I am definitely feeling the affects of that now. I am tired, sore, and feel like I ran a marathon. It still hasn't totally hit me that I will not have any more painful periods. Its still so surreal.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. It really helped me get through it. I'll keep you posted on my continuing recovery.

Oh yea, they started me on the Estradiol patch, so we'll see how it works. So far, so good.

Thank you! Isn't it funny how much it helps just to talk to people that have gone through or are going through the same things?? You guys have been such a help to me.

I am trying my best to keep moving....my DH just went to pick me up a walker cuz we have small animals around that like to get under your feet. Also, as i'm sure you know, it is very hard to stand straight up without support. This gas pressure is killing me the most! Who woulda thought that THAT would be the worst of all of it?? lol...

I am having a lot of pain today, but tolerable. It helps to have the laptop to distract me, and also it serves nicely as a 'splint' against my stomach when i need to cough!

So its been four months for you? Has the reality set in yet that you won't have any more periods? What did they take out?

I know what you mean about thinking its all in your head. I mean, i knew I had more pain than a normal person should, but I was simply acting on gut instinct that there was a 'condition'. It was a relief to hear the doctor say 'it turns out you REALLY needed this surgery'. He knew I needed it for pain relief and some scar tissue, but no one suspected what they actually found in there. Plus, it makes it easier to deal with knowing that I would have had to do it eventually anyway.

Oh yea, i think i had my first 'night sweat' last night. Yuck. But i am one of those people that always expects things to be FAR worse than they are...then I am always pleasantly surprised!

Well, i am off to get soem rest....

This sight is great and so are the people !!

The best thing for the gas is to walk. Also try some peppermint tea. That might help too.
When you cough or sneeze it will hurt like you know what !! So make sure yiu put a pillow on your abdomen for support. It will help but still will hurt like you know what !!lol

Did they prescribe you any pain meds??
Also, correct me if I am wrong, did you mention in one of your posts about IBS ?? This actuasly might help iut. I always had problems with diahreah during my period and the last year I had problems with constipation too. Since my surgery I am a heck of alot better.

I had my uteris, both ovaries and falopian tubes removed. I wasnt only dealing with Adenomyosis I was also dealing with massive cysts and clusters of cysts on my ovaries. Possibly PCOS. When my doc opened me up, my uteris was a mess and my iovaries were enlarged a full of cysts, so he decided to take them out too. My uteris was enlarged and looke like it had 2-3 c-sections, I never had a c-section, it was damage from the Adenomyosis which pathology confirmed. It was pretty bad.

Get rest and ANY question please ask !~!

Yes, I did mention IBS. I am hoping too that this will help. I have read that some women are getting releif from this surgery. I also struggled with problems around my period and the last two years with chronic constipation. Awful.

I am taking Vicoden for the pain. They wanted me to take percoset, but it makes me too nauseous. So Vicoden and Ibuprofen when needed. But of course, Ibuprofen is also a little hard on the stomach. Peppermint tea is helping quite a bit with the gas-very good suggestion. They should give it to people in the hospital cuz those anti gas tablets they were giving me were a joke!

Its funny that you mentioned sneezing. I havent' yet, but usually i do often. I have been sitting here just waiting for that first sneeze and i know its gonna be awful! i have a pillow on my lap constantly so i am always prepared. But yes, the coughing is quite painful! Its amazing what they can do to the body isn't it?

Wow, it sounds like you were really messed up in there. I bet you are so relieved to have had the surgery! How is your activity level now? Do you work?

I am glad for you that you were able to get this done and hopefully have a great result from it. It almost renews my faith in the medical community!

Hi Lil`Pea,

So glad to hear you are doing so good. Im sure you are relieved to hear there was a cause for your pain. You're going to love not having those periods anymore..

Ya that happy shot is great!! I didn't care what they did to me after getting that.

Don't be suprised if you get some hotflashes while you adjust to the patch. Once your hormones level off you will feel great. I was having lots of hotflashes when I was not on hrt,, it actually increased when I went on the hormones..After about 2 weeks I felt great..

Remember even if you are feeling good to take it easy...you have alot of healing inside to do..short walks will be good for you. But remember to rest..

I know I need a stonger patch...I am struggling with hot flashes and night sweats and I have been a {removed} !!! If yah no what I mean..poor DH !! I am surprised he hasnt killed me yet or vice versa LOL

My insicion area is still bothering me but it still has to heal.

Hi all:

Well, today is going alright. My incision site is VERY sore...more bruised feeling really. It looks good though, no redness or swelling. Yesterday was scary-I was fighting a fever all day and night. I was getting very nervous. Today is better though, no fever. I honestly think its because I am not sleeping enough. I am 'resting', but not sleeping like i should be. After a good nights sleep, it went away. Lets hope that's all it was!

{removed}

As far as your comment about needing a stronger patch: Have you had a hormone work up? I've been reading that the only way to get an accurate hormone level is through a saliva test. You can find a doctor or clinic that does them by calling around and asking if they are practiced in 'human identical hormone therapy and saliva testing"....Its the only way to get them totally tailored to your needs.
I keep teasing my husband that if he's not extra nice to me I'm gonna peel my patch off! LOL...only a slight look of fear crossed his face!

Anyhow, hope all is good for everyone! I'll keep posting on progress!

Actualy, I dealt with a fever too after my hyst. It was I think day 3, I was still in the hospital. I was ther for about 5 days. My fever only lasted over night then I was fine.

I am seeing a Endocrinologist. I have another appointment with him in Oct. I am supposed to go for more bloodwork. We will see what happens. I am just SO tired, I wish I could sleep. Having a difficult time with that due to the night sweats and insomnia.

Hi guys:

Well, I got my stitches out today...that was an experience! Not too horribly bad, but what an odd sensation. The doctor was thrilled with my recovery so far, as I am up walking around and able to stand straight up rather than hunched over. I still need to walk very lightly as any type of jolt still hurts alot, but if I am careful I am getting around pretty darn good. He asked how I was doing with pain pills and if I needed any more, and I said "No, I still have 27 left"....he says 'out of forty??" Yep. He now thinks I am hercules! :p I hadn't really thought about it a whole lot, but when i really did the math, I am also amazed that I have been able to get through this with very little use of narcotics. I thought it would be much much worse! So, occasionally (like tonight) I need to take one at bedtime if I've been upright alot, but overall I am pain med free! YAY! :bouncing:

How is everyone else doing??

I have to say that the only thing that is still keeping me down is that my energy level is next to nothing! Today I had to go to doc, bank, and grocery store and I thought I would faint before I got home! UG...oh yea, and a few more hotflashes, but it was 'change the patch day' so I think thats why. I hope.

Hope everyone is well!

Lil'Pea

I was glad to hear about your experience because my day is 10/17 and I am scared top death. Never had a major operation, just my tubes tied and dental surgery. I have made out my will, dnr, and waht I ant after-cremated adn such stuff. Everyone thinks I am xrazy, but I feel I will not make it out of the operation alive! {removed} NO off board contact

Aw, Ksay, you're going to be fine, I just know it. I know it's terribly scary. I had my first ever surgery with an emergency c-section for my son. I was screaming that I didn't want to be put out but my doctor insisted there wasn't enough time and he had to get baby out NOW! I had no choice, but you know what? I woke up about an hour later to hold a beautiful baby boy, so it was worth all the fear of the unknown by far.

Since then, I've had many minor surgeries where I've be anesthetized and I'm still here to tell about it.

I'm planning on a SAH myself at the end of the year; and yes, I'm a bit nervous, but I know I'm putting myself in the best hands of my doctor and am confident everything will be just fine.

I won't look forward to the nausea afterwards, (I don't handle the anesthesia or pain medication well) or the pain, but I know I have to have this operation for me...it's only going to be worse five years from now.

It's easy for others to think your crazy by you basically, "getting all your ducks in a row" before the operation, but I bet if it were them, they'd have some of the same fears you are feeling right now. They wouldn't be a normal human being if they didn't! What you are feeling is quite normal and perhaps your doctor could even give you something to relax you as soon as you are admitted to the hospital.

Best of luck and you'll be in my thoughts on Oct. 17. Let us know how it goes!
