This is my first post here so hello everybody.
I would just like to ask a very quick question if I may.
I am on 100 mcgs Thyroxine daily, 50mgs Metoprolol daily and 75mcgs Clonidine twice daily. Is it safe to have the occasional couple of glasses of wine two or three times a week?
Thank you
Maria

I think you have to go with what your body is telling you. Some BP meds mixed with alcohol intensify the alcohol's effect; also, if you check your BP after having a glass of wine and it didn't spike too much, I wouldn't worry about it.

So it will be a much cheaper evening for me then ;) but to be serious, I am another one of those "white coat hypertensives" and I worry about my blood pressure all time. I've even got to the stage of as soon as that blood pressure monitor starts working on my arm I can actually feel my blood pressure shoot up........and thats even when I use my own at home  When I'm calm and I can take it without worrying what it might be, it is as low (yesterday) as 110/79  I don't know how I can get myself out of the trap of having a phobia of a blood pressure machine. The doctors even tried me out with one of those ambulatery (sp!) ones that you wear for 24 hours but as soon as it clicked to start my BP shot up. Any ideas???

I have the same problem with the white coat syndrome and I know many others who post here do, as well. It would be nice if the nurse would let us sit for 20 minutes after we get taken into the exam room to let us calm down a little. But they are so anxious to whisk us in and out. I don't know what the solution is...it's funny that we'd be so nervous because it's only a BP cuff, not a huge needle getting stuck into us :)

With me, no matter how long I could be sitting there, the minute that cuff comes on me and I hear the start beep, my BP justs shoots up. I know it's a phycological (sp?) thing, spose I probably need to see someone. Sometimes though I think that the medical profession has gone too far into the health conscous and made us all obsessed about our BP's and stuff. It was something that my Mother once said, she said, "you know years ago doctors were'nt as fussy about blood pressures, what we ate (to a certain degree!) or getting in the gym as they are now and we never even gave BP's, our hearts or health (unless we were really ill, of course) a second thought and we were much happier for it!" She did make me think though, that maybe she did have a point :D
