I am in smokers hell. I take alot of the gum during the day and have 3 or 4 cigs at night. The worse is the expense, and the amount that I chew every day, like 30 pieces. On my day off I don't chew that much, it is at work when I am stressed out. I have tryed to go back to the patch but I chew gum on the patch, though I can cut down alot with that. I so love to smoke and the 3 or 4 at night is heaven, but I am gearing up to totally quit again. I'v quit for years at a time. Any experiences on this would be very helpful. Lizard50

Lizard--

Get off the gum, throw out the cigs, and go get some 21 mg patches..stick those on and stay off all other forms of nicotene. You're taking a big risk smoking and using gum, or patches. One way or the other!

And good luck!! :)

I chewed a piece of gum the other day for about 3 minutes and then 20 minutes later decided I would try to quit smoking another day. After 3 puffs of the cig I thought I was having a heart attack. My chest tightened up and my heart was RACING BIG TIME. I dont see how you do it. You should be very VERY careful smoking on the patch or gum.

I used the gum to quit for 6 months last year and am qutting again tomorrow for good this time.

Good luck. and DO NOT SMOKE on the patch or gum. Youre taking a serious risk.

Best wishes go out to you, PezDee!! You will do it this time, girlfriend!! And I so agree with you about NOT smoking with the gum or patch!! :nono: BAD idea, people! One or the other!! It's just not worth taking the chance....that's TOO much nicotine at once.

Do it, Pez Dee!!

Not one to give advice since I blew it last night and had 5 smokes....cant help it ...find the stuff so relaxing...but my problems aside ...anyone who wants to wean off the gum should just try regular gum, it covers the need for oral stimulation and is alot softer than that cement gum. I know it doesn't have the nicotine but is a bit of a crutch to lean on. :)

Hi DaVinci....EXACTLY,...it's that cement texture I like...and the taste of it....and the nicotine!! LOL Hey, I know you mean well kiddo, but you'd just have to be in these zapatos to know,...it's just not that easy! ;) My best girlfriend, (since we were 12 years old...she's never smoked, she[/I] has COPD]) she told me the same thing a few weeks ago...."Can't ya just chew regular gum?" Believe me, I have a whole kitchen drawer full, of about 10 different brands of "regular" gum...LOL...but it's just missing that one essential ingredient tho. LOL Luckily, I'm not quite as addicted as the poster who started this thread, (sorry...can't remember your name). I wish he would post back and let us know how he's doing, now. I do sympathize tho, as I know it's addictive, alright. The patch was NOT as addictive as this gum, but this gum really does satisfy the oral gratification part of quitting. I used the patch for the first year or so, and some days I forgot to even put one on....would'nt notice it until late in the afternoon, when my head would feel a bit weird! So, anyone's starting gum,...be careful...it works great, but set a limit for yourself on it...say, no more than maybe 10 pieces a day at first, then down to 5, then down to 3. I can easily see how someone could get hooked on 20 or more a day. :D Take it easy...but do whatever it takes [B]FOR YOU to quit smoking!!

Luv,
Deda

Hey Deda
I'm not dissing the gum ....love that stuff, unfortunately in my case "loved" it too much...ended up smoking and chewing at the same time....guess I realized it wasn't for me when I had to keep forking over the bucks for that addictive stuff. Not to mention that "cement" took out at least four fillings.
Trying to limit the smoking to at least 10 per day ...only had 5 yesterday but I'm realistic....know that probably won't last ....I want to quit fully some day but with all the stresses...it's sooo sweet to have one release. :)

Hi DaVinci... :D

My release is my gum.. :) Did you really lose 4 fillings?!?! Whoa...we better be careful! Yeah, I'm sorry to say, that cutting back doesn't usually last for long..but good for you on the effort. I always found cutting back more difficult than quitting, really, I did. Hey, why don't you try quitting with the patch?? I happen to know from experiance that they work very well...and not as addictive as the gum, either. :) Geez...just posting about that gum makes me want to go get a piece...but I'll hold off! lol (have to take my thyroid meds, and can't mix the 2 for a couple of hours!)

Hey!!!...I know...why don't ya plan a quit date, and gear yourself up to quit with the patches?? Come on...like Tony Little says....."Come on....YOU CAN DO ITTTTTTT" :bouncing:

Deda :)
