is it possible to get strep throat while on bactrim? Technically i'm on a generic of it called smz/tmp double-STR tab mpc..for a UTI, but i have 2 pills left tot ake and i suddenly got a sore throat and feel not so great... i know the girl that sits next to me in class had strep...


It would be strange that a drug that fights infection would cause another infection. While all antibiotics aren't effective against all bacteria, in theory, it can't "cause" an infection.

Are you sure that you're not suffering from post-nasal drip? If you have a cold or sinus problems or even allergies, your sinuses/nasal passageway could be draining down your throat, which would make it feel sore, and make you feel pretty crappy, too. Does your throat hurt all day, or only in the morning?
Do you have any other symptoms of a cold?
