Is it O.K. to go off prempro cold turkey(smallest dose available) or should I cut it down slowly? I've taken it for 8 months and I think it may be reason I'm gaining weight..

I have quit HRT cold turkey. Sometimes you may have some bleeding a few days after stopping it, I did.
Now I am on vaginal Estrace cream. The first week had to use 2 grams a day. Now only using 1 gram 3 times a week. So far so good.
Now after the first week it made my breasts so sore, thought they were going to blow up, I was bloated really bad, hand swelling, legs hurt.
Now since on a lower dose, I am okay. Don't know why in the world they told me to take that much the first week. Without even doing any female hormone tests.
