Hi everyone,

I know a lot is going on with Sally and her MIL and Martha and her mom. And they do need our help. But...

I just had to tell you: My mom had a ladies luncheon to go to on Saturday. So, my husband and I went to pick up my dad for lunch (he is the one with the level 5-6 alzheimers). I had his dr. give him a prescription for Meclizine, a dizziness preventing medicine. It was offered to him in the summer and he lost the prescription!

Anyway, when we got there, my husband took my dad to the pharmacy to pick up the new med. So, off I went to my parents room and got his 2 guns out (a 22 and a deer rifle?). I had read the instruction and opened the packages (at my home) on the 2 gun locks (trigger locks) that I had bought, so that I knew what I was doing. Plus my husband showed me how to do it on, his deer rifle at our house!

I just put them on and took the keys with me and put the guns back where they were. They will not know that I did this, unless they try to give the guns to a grandson or my father tries to use one! Which is what we do not want to happen - the latter. We will put the keys in a special place at our house, for when they are to be given to someone at a much later time. I hope. My dad has not moved them in years.

You guys do not know how much better that makes me feel! At least he cannot shoot himself or someone else now!!! :> My sister will be glad that I finally got a chance to lock the guns. I guess, sometimes things just have to fall into place! Plus we got my dads new dizzy med. in his M - F pill container before my mom got back. She does not like my dad taking so many pills. But he wanted to see if they would work!

Just a little bit of good news and a little headway made in the effort to keep my parents safe and cared for! Here is hoping that yall have some good fortune come your ways too!!

Take care of you. Love, Wannabe

Congratulations! Good move! It was certainly a danger to have usable guns in the house with an advanced AD patient ... one time I remeoved all sharp knives from the kitchen after awakening to see my Mom hovering over me looking very angry and very fierce ... nothing in her hands, but still ..she was aways angry at me those last few months, believing I had taken away her freedom by 'making ' her go out with an aide instead of alone ...

Don't ever think other people's problems take priority ..YOU are just as important as anyone else!!

Love,
Martha

Hi Wannabe!

You go girl!!!!!!! It's amazing to think of all we do and say to keep our bundles safe and as happy as possible.

When you are free to roam, be sure to venture away from TX! Having lived in Waco for 10 too long, too hot years, I'm here to say there's a cooler beautiful world on the other sides of the state lines (well, maybe not cooler to the west ...)!! Unless you travel east, it will take forever to get out of the state!

Cheers! Barbara :)

You've motivated me to add this to my lists. My husband's guns are locked in a gun cabinet in the attic, and I haven't even thought about them. He doesn't get upset about too much, but I know he'll get upset if he knew I was putting locks on his guns. I'll have to pick my time.
