Hello again,

I'm on my 5th day without medication and my blood pressure ranges from 140/100 to 135/95. I weight 84 KG (don't know how much in Pounds maybe 168) and I'm 185 CM (also don't know how much in feets) so do you think that if I lost 20 pounds my blood pressure will be reduced??

How many months the diet takes in order to reduce blood pressure? I hope I can get it to 130/85 it will be very nice and save.
Thanks for your help
Michael

Yes, I think weight loss will lower the numbers. I think also time will help. After 5 days you're body is still suffereing from the withdrawal of the drugs.
You'll be able to better judge the effects of no meds in 2 weeks to a month.

Since weight loss isn't overnight,
your BP will probably drop right in tandem with the scale. I found that the first 15 pounds pays HUGE BP dividends.

Watch your salt intake; lower salt might drop that diastolic.

I have took off the medication 10 days ago and I still feel that I'm Dizzy and I can't concentrate at all so I think it's not related to the Atacand? what do you think? or maybe because my blood pressure is not normal?
Thanks for your help

Lenin and some of the others on here know more about the side effects and effects from stopping meds than I do, so I'll leave your question about Atacand to someone else. I do think that if you lose those last 20 pounds, though, that there is a good chance that will improve your blood pressure. No guarantee, of course. Once in a while one hears of someone who lost weight and it didn't seem to make much difference in their BP, but that seems to be a definite minority. Some times even a few pounds can make a difference. Don't try to lose the weight too fast, though. A slow, steady weight loss averaging around two pounds loss a week or less tends to be better. One loses more fat that way instead of so much muscle, and it is more conducive to developing eating habits you can stick with and therefore be less likely to just gain it back again.

Thanks Lenin and Uff-Da!, yes Lenin told me before that Atacand doesn't cause much side effects so I'm back on it from today because I think it's not related to it. Anyway, my blood pressure was 140/100 and after 3 hours from taking Atacand 8 mg the reading was 130/80. I'm happy that my blood pressure responds to the least dosage of ARBs.
Thanks for your help

Mike,

I ran your numbers into the silly American system and at 185 pounds and 6'1" your weight seems right on target. No need to try to push it down, unless you've got love handles you don't like. At 161 you'd probably be too skinny.

Michael,

According to the body mass index (BMI) calculator I used, your current height/weight equals a BMI of 24.5. The chart on that web site shows "normal" BMI as ranging all the way from 18.5 to 24.9, placing you near the high end of normal. You'd have to get down to 63 kg before that chart would put you at underweight! Obviously, where within that range is the best weight would depend a lot upon bone structure. The mirror is probably the best guide.
