Seizures are hereditary on my mom's side of the family. My brother had thousands of grandmal seizures over the course of his lifetime. His first one was at the age of 13. He passed away in January of 2001 from having a seizure in the bathtub. He was 22 years old. My mom has had three seizures in her life, my mom's oldest brother has seizures. I've never had one and neither has my twin sister...thank goodness! I hope I never will!

SO sorry to hear that your brother passed away during one at a young age! It is good that you have not had any!

Thanks. It's been difficult without his presence in my family's daily life, but we're doing pretty well and dealing with the loss in our own way. I know his spirit will always be with me, so that's comforting to know! I'm also glad that I haven't experienced any seizures, I've just witnessed a lot of my brother's seizures...very very scary to witness.

I am so sorry to here about your brother. My daughter has had seizures since she was 5 or 6, she is now 15. They also come from my mothers side. I have 2 other children, 23 and 20, neither one have seizures. I am so glad you do not have them. My prayers go out to your family

I am so confused about Epilepsy and Genetics. I've read that there is no gene for Epilepsy. Then I've read that you can have a propensity for a low threshhold within the family. I've also read at The Epilepsy Foundation (I think), not a message board, that the reasearchers are still looking for the Epilepsy gene. So I can't figure out if genetics are involved or not. Seems to be very controversial.
