I have been having some medical issues for quite some time now, including not being able to loss weight. Recently, I consulted with a Holistic Doctor and she told me I should be on the "Eat 4 Your Blood Type Diet". I would like to know if anyone has been on this diet and what you think. Any comments would be welcomed.
Thank in advance for any information.

Hello, Yep. One of my coworkers swears by the book, and she is thin. She is also vegetarian to begin with and has never had to loose any weight. From what she tells me...Type A are supposed to be the vegetarians, type o are supposed to be the carnivoires, and type B are the omnivores. I still don't understand the logic, but then I don't understand the logic of most diets. I just use what works for me.

I follow the guidelines for the most part. Most success stories are for medical conditions (mostly those chronic type things that western medicine does not take care of very well) rather than weight loss. Though I know of a number of people who claim ER4YT was the key to taking off considerable amounts of weight.
Dr. D'Adamo's second book, Live Right 4 Your Type, talks about another system of blood typing (secretor status) that can really impact the foods one is supposed to eat. So that will have more up-to-date information than the first book.
The book I currently find most useful is the Blood Type Encyclopedia (not the exact title) that came out two (?) or so years ago. It goes into different health conditions and the best blood type appropriate supplements to treat them.
Do you know your blood type?

My blood type is A. Thank you so much for the response. I was told that this way of eating would help me with severe menopause symptoms. I also have hypothyoidism. All I know is at this point I will try anything to feel better, even if I don't loss weight. Thank you again.

Type A is one of those where it is important to determine your type with the other typing system.
Yeah, I know the summaries say that As are supposed to be natural vegetarians, but fish and some poultry are allowed. Plus when you consider the other typing system and another subtype, some As are supposed to have more protein.
The first book really stressed soy for type A . . . like almost limitless soy . . . but that was downgraded in the second book. And that "other type" of A is not supposed to have so much soy. From what I understand, soy is not such a good thing for hypothyroid, either.
In other words, before I babble on anymore, proceed slowly, read the book, before you jump in.

Thank you guys. Have any of you felt better being on this way of eating program?
I remember reading somewhere that soy isn't good for people, who have thyroid, but I have been drinking soymilk for the last 4 days and today I actually felt better emotionally. So who knows, do you know what the symptoms would be if soy didn't agree with me? Thanks again. Maybe just talking has helped me some. I really appreciate ya all taking the time to respond.

I've heard the same thing about soy and would tread very carefully . . . especially with unfermented forms of soy.
If the soy milk is being substituted for cow's milk, it could be the absence of cow's milk that is making you feel better rather than the addition of soy milk.
People have very different reaction to soy - from nausea to rashes - so it's hard to say.

I'm type A, I also lean towards vegetarianism. I do eat meat but very little of it, like once a week maybe. I also have some medical conditions one being malabsoption so I have to be careful what I follow.

Please do a search for my previous posts regarding blood type diet, if you want the details of my belief and findings. To sum it up, there is very little scientific evidence to support many of the claims D'Adamo makes. He makes huge "leaps and bounds" taking from studies on lectins, saying that he's got evidence when he really doesn't. I prefer to base what I eat on its purity, source, history of human consumption relevant to my ancestors and of course studies that demonstrate legitimate en-vivo effects. I'm type A, followed the blood type diet for at least 2 years, and I certainly feel better when I eat some good quality red meat on a regular basis. I don't eat meat with carbs/grains/starches, find it digest much better. Good luck in your journey.
