Hubble is all okay? Been so long since we have seen a post from you, Hope it is because you have at long last become a beach bum like you always threatened. Is your mother doing well? I think of you because you and I are trying the flush-free Niacin and also the Policosanol and wonder if you are getting good results.

Last I heard he had just come back from vacation, so maybe he is still trying to get back to a working schedule, or did decide to go back and be a BEACH BUM!!....

Glad U asked though, as I look forward to reading his and Arizona's posts. Hopefully both U and Hubble do good on the Niacin and Policosanol. Think Hubble has to go next month for bloodwork.

Good luck to both of you, this numbers battle is a pain!!.....

Gardeninggal and JJ,

Yes - I am still here!!! Sorry I haven't posted for so long. As JJ said, I was on vacation for the last half of August, and then had to go on a business trip.

But thanks for asking!!! And yes, my Mom continues to improve. She is almost back to normal now. She can walk faster and further now - I think she added years to her life with the bypass surgery. We're all glad that's behind us!!!

JJ- Beachbumming is looking more and more attractive! Work is a pain!!! They continue to cut staff and budgets and want more and more work out of you. I'd like to be in the Florida keys right now sitting on the beach watching the sunset with my trusty cooler of cold beer!!!

Oh well, back to the grind.

I'm still taking Policosanol and Niacin. My next blood work is on Oct 6th. I hurt my back about a month ago and had to cut back on jogging for a while, but I'm getting back into that now too. I'm back up to 3 miles 3 times a week. Want to get up to 4 miles 4 times a week if I can before winter (I don't jog in the winter). My weight is still about what it was 3 weeks ago (hard to lose weight on vacation - too many meals out)...

I'm hoping for an increase in my HDL (not likely, but I can still hope!!), and for my LDL/HDL ratio to improve. I also want to get my trigs down around 150.

The Policosanol should have taken full effect by my next blood test - I'll be sure to post my results... I'm still taking vitamin-C (4000mg/day), Folic Acid (800mcg/day), Ester-E (400IU/day), L-Lysine (2000mg/day), and niacin (500mg/day).

As you both know, I am much more concerned in the ratio than the absolute numbers, since I really don't buy into the high-cholesterol theory. I still think that chronic, low-level inflammation and high-blood pressure are much more responsible for CHD than cholesterol ever will be.

Have to get back to watching my foods also (I was BAAADDD on vacation)....

TTYL

Hi Hubble...Glad to hear your mom is doing so much better, that must be a great relief. Sorry to hear about the back, I know where your coming from. I ruptured 4 discs in my back many, many years ago, NOT fun. Most of the time I can work around it, but then there are days I really feel it and have to be careful till that twinge leaves, as I am not about to be back in a brace like I was for 3 years.

As far as work, yup, seems every place is doing the same thing, down sizing and wanting the remaining folks to take on more, what a vicious cycle. Oh that beach bum life is looking better for me to, especially knowing that old man winter will be here sooner then we want. Fall is lovely, but I'm not a snow, ice and fridgid temperature type person, so a spot on the beach for a few months would be GREAT!!!

Hopefully your ratios will be good the next go around. I'm still doing the best I can, and yes, I have slipped a few times but hey, I'm only human. Somedays this numbers game makes me just a tad annoyed, but then I just pick myself up if I feel I'm not doing what is right and start over. Like U, once in awhile we all have to be a little bad, it makes life more interesting.. :D

Hope U have a great weekend, take care of the back, and best wishes on getting the ratios U want. Keep us posted, and will CYL....

BTW, I finally got hubby to do the cinnamon routine, and am hoping it will do something for not only his diabetes, but maybe those darn stubborn Trigs. of his. He really has been trying to eat properly, but it didn't help much, so what the heck, give the cinnamon a try, it can't hurt.
