The nurse called me this afternoon to tell me that my lab work came back normal, which I know is good, but I asked her if my liver enzymes were normal and she said yes. I asked her if it was the Lipitor that was causing all the aches and pains, wouldn't my liver enzymes be elevated? She said no, not necessarily. Okay, I'm confused. Isn't that the whole idea of doing a liver panel?? I stopped taking my Lipitor last Saturday and she said it should be out of my system by this weekend, but I still hurt really bad. Do you think this could possibly be related to something else? Thanks

I'm glad your tests came back good, but when hubby and I were on statins our tests were fine too, but we still had the aches and pains. Took me almost 7 months to feel better, and hubby has been off for 4 yrs., but now has permanent damage. Not everyone gets rid of the aches and pains, if they are caused from the statins, as soon as others. Hang in there for a little while and see what happens.

Good luck....

BTW, have U tried taking CO Q10? Many folks on here take it and have had very good results. It is expensive, but anyone on statins should be taking it, and even now that U aren't, it might help with the pains. Usually most folks take 50 to 100 mgs. each day.

gopack,

The reason for the liver panel is to ascertain the lack of any liver damage. Several drugs aimed at cholesterol direct their action at the liver where cholesterol is synthesized so keeping watch on it's function is recommended.

For muscle pain caused by statins the better test is the CPK, or CK, (creatine phosphokinase( whch measures the byproduct of muscular breakdown. It's wise to check that once in a blue to make sure no muscle damage is occurring.

Aches and pains could MOST DEFINITELY be caused by any number of things. They occurred in people LONG BEFORE the word statin had ever been thought of!

Try taking no statins for 60 days and see if they go away. If they do, then consider the statins a likely suspect. If they don't, it's something else.
