I have been bothered for several years with a very ugly feeling of extreme weakness that seems to come on for no apparent reason. I have gone to my doctor with this several times but with no results. Lately, I have been having these feeling after I experience shortness of breathe when falling asleep. Often this occurs during the day when I try to take a nap. I will fall asleep and wake up gasping for breath. Usually, later in the day, this weakness feeling comes on. I have never passed out, but feel as if I might. The feeling usually goes away after I rest for 15 min. or so. I am 62 years old and do not smoke and am not over weight. Any answers ??

try to find a doc who will take your problem seriously, if you snore loudly when asleep it may be sleep apnea, tape record yourself when asleep
asthma is another possibility

You need to get a second opinion. This could be a symptom of a serious medical problem. Don't let your doctors shrug off your symptoms, you know something is wrong, be aggressive in getting the care you need.

Gasping for breath when napping is a classic sign of sleep apnea. Not everyone who has apnea is overweight or snores.

Good luck.

HELLO,
Will some people please tell me which high platelet count medicine works effectively quickly, and without too many side effects? I've been on hydroxyurea for over 5 years, and later learned it can cause leg ulcers,Agriline is too strong and causes heart problems,my platelet counts are soaring, and I am thinking of pheresis to lower them if my doctor will agree. Is apheresis effective long term? Will loweing my costochondritis(chest arthritis which causes a heavy discomfort in my chest.) lower the platelet counts? I heard arthiritis can cause some platelet counts to rise, can thorns from roses, possibly cause some "disease." or virus, which might have added to the high platelet count? I eat quite healthily, take higher doses of vitamins than usual to try to keep up my energy. But now my count is extremely high,so I am very scared. I haven't said I am scared to anyone for a long time. I am scared now.

I never had this disease until after giving birth to my third child. I was always tired as a young girl, but still quite active in the ways of walking and exercising. I still exercise, doing leg lifts, walking short or long distance, jumping rope, and light 10 pound hand lifting. Is this possibly the reason I feel Iam out of breath...because of the high platelet counts? I really appreciate anyones reply.
