i also posted this in the MH section but thinking about i probably should have posted it here in the first place.

my shrink gave me a script for 20mg of Geodon because i cant deal with the side effects of SSRIs and Benzos knock me out and make me crabby/depressed when they wear off.. i dont have bipolar or schizophrenia i have anxiety/Pure-O.. i can deal with the anxiety symptoms just fine without meds but what i cant deal with is the intrusive thoughts from the pure-o..

so i dont know what to think of this Med after reading the long list of side effects that came in the bag with the script.. i am very sensitive to all meds even 2 advil will knock me out so yeah i am scared to try geodon even more so when i read that it can cause weird heart beats because i have heart palps as it is from the anxiety.. anyone want to share their experiences with this med?

the medicine is suppose to be for taming symptoms of schizophrenia but sometimes doctors will use it for anxiety. my doctor suggested it for my own anxiety but i chose not to take it since the company that makes geodon says it's only for schizophrenia. my doctor didnt think there was anything wrong with that decision and we decided i would just continue taking my paxil.

I have taken geodon for the past year. I am currently taking 160mg of it. Don't worry about the heart palpitations. 20mg is a very small dose. However, there are tests that can be done to determine whether you do indeed have heart problems that should keep you from taking geodon. If you are that worried ask your doctor about taking a test. I have had no problems, and on such a small dose, I doubt you will either.

Geodon is supposed to be the alternative to Risperdal because it doesn't cause so much weight gain. They are both listed as being for schizophrenia, but in small doses are now being prescribed for anxiety. The Risperdal has given me relief I didn't know existed. Since you will be taking the anxiety dosage, the side effects will probably be less likely to occur, as adeflorio84 mentioned above.
