I've just begun following my dream of acting. I'm scared that I'm going to be turned down for roles or referred to as heavy and would like to lose weight before that happens. I'm 5'8 and 124 lbs. anyone out there have any suggestions as to how much weight I should lose so I look ideal on camera without seeing me?

Hello, You sound like a good weight to me. You're 5'8" not 5'2" right? How about just toning up? Exercise might be a better answer than diet. Those kick-boxing exercise videos can tone a person up really fast. Also the Cindy Crawford videos work fast too.

According to a generally accepted heigh-weight chart: http://www.healthyglow.com/weight-loss/weight-tables.html
You are already underweight so I would suggest not putting your body through any weight loss stress.
I understand that in the acting or modelling business the "ideal" sizes and weights are totallyridiculous but don't subject yourself or your body to that kind of thinking.

Kelly,
As a few other people have written, I wouldn't recommend losing any weight. Actually, I'm 5'8" and 125 pounds, myself. When I read that you wanted to lose weight, my jaw dropped http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif. I like the weight that I'm at. Granted, I am trying to tone my body a bit, but I'm not at all unhappy with my weight. What is the ideal weight for a 5'8" model? They always look sooo thin on T.V. It's kinda scary, actually.

Hey, I'm exactly the same weight and height, and have been stuck at this weight for a year. For a year I've put my body through vigorous work out and diet, diet and no work out, workout and no diet, and guess what? Throughout all of those stages, my body has stayed the same!!! The only difference in weight was when I had stopped exercising I went down from 128 to 124 and reliazed it was all muscle that I've lost. It's been so frustratingb b/c no matter what I would do not a pound less. Finally I figured, althogh, not satisfied at all, that this is the least I'll ever weight. I figure if I exercise I could stay healthy and still look ok. I think we both need to just get into a regular exercising without putting out bodies through all of this dieting, and tone up!! This is just based on my boyd, I know everyone is different. I can relate to you b/c everyone is telling me I'm skinny b/c of my height, but I def. have pounds that I would love to get rid of. Good luck to you!!!

first it depends on your frame size. If you are small boned you will be more to the low end of the height/wt charts. medium or large boned more towards the higher end.
everyone is different. I am 5'8 128lbs and have been for a long time.
when I modeled they wanted me down to 110...I was so sick all the time and size 2-3 was just icky I thought.
I would wait and see what they say. they'll tell you if you have to lose weight for a part or a shoot and you are small enough now that they'll be able to give you the 2 weeks or whatever to get smaller.
worry not. some might even want you heavier..just depends what you end up doing.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I really appreciate. I will up my exercise routine and try and tone up more instead of worrying about dieting. Thanks again! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
