I have gained weight from zoloft and I am just about off of it after about 3 yrs of being on it. I really want to lose that weight. I have read the ssri's inhibit certain enzymes in the liver, slowing down the metabolism, and also the way to lose weight after using ssri's is to take tyrosine to cleanse the liver. is this true at all? I know that xenadrine efx has tyrosine in it, so would that be good to take?

hi, art vandelay! are you an architect, by chance?
My weight gain was from Celexa, so another ssri. I hadn't heard about the tyrosine, so can't comment on that (except I don't think tyrosine would hurt). But I did find it was the most difficult weight to get off I had ever experienced. I did a really clean plan for several months (like about three) that normally would have resulted in weight loss . . . nothing. Then, in the course of about 2 weeks 5 pounds came off. Then nothing for another 6 weeks. Then 3 pounds came off. And on and on in fits and starts.
So, plug along and don't get frustrated. My theory is it just take a little time for the body to recuperate from the metabolism and whatever else changed the drug induced.
Kicking up exercise ought to help. Also, you might want to try cutting down on grains, especially wheat, as much as possible. I find it helps with both situations.
I also gained weight with a SSRI. - 30 pounds in two months to be exact. I have quite taking it and am trying to lose the weight. The weight isn't coming off yet - hopfully soon.
