View Full Version : Lipid Profile Questions

My doctors results show my basic cholesterol numbers such as TC, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides but I notice other people are getting other information such as VLDL, LDL-C (?)

Should I inquire with my doctor to run a different test to get the other numbers or is TC, HDL, LDL and Triglycerides sufficient?

Thanks,
Dave

Your VLDL is easy to calculate. Just divide your Trigs. by 5. I think the goal for VLDL, very low-density lipoprotein is 0-30. As far as the LDL-C, this is the definition I got on the web: Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, so I believe the tests U are getting are the proper ones. If there is any other definitions for these, I am sure someone with more knowledge then myself will be more then glad to tell you.

Take care......

My Lipid profile reads as follows:
LDL - 75
HDL - 62
TC- 110
Trig - 102

How is this computed? I thought it is stated LDL+HDL+Trig/5 which should be 157 in my case. Why do they tell it is 110?

Brian,

There's a screw-up in your numbers and I'm guessing it's with the TC of 110 which is almost impossibly low...although not COMPLETELY impossible.
I think your TC should have been reported as 157...which is ALSO a spectacular profile and more in the realm of plausibility.

Watch out for runaway buses and carcinogens because with these numbers you'll certainly NEVER die of heart disease.:D:D Do you get these numbers WITHOUT drugs?

Get a retest though because if the test was done by someone who can't count, maybe other mistakes were made.

Well, unless that person already has heart disease. Anyway, the LDL and TC are unusually low, which is typical for someone who is already taking statins.

I definitely agree with Lenin, something is not right with your numbers. Even if I try to get yout TRIGS. TC-HDL-LDL + 5 it comes out -135???

They messed up my numbers once, so the labs aren't always perfect, and yes, I calculate your TC as 157. I would call the dr. monday and ask if they gave U the right quote or if something is switched around. No matter what, those are still mighty fine numbers.

Good luck....

Sorry, that should be x5 not plus 5 for the Trigs. Time for my second cup of coffee.... :D BTW, if U calculate it with a TC of 157, then your Trigs. come out to be about 101.

Thanks for all the help folks. I just called up the lab and they say they are sorry about giving me wrong TC. I am going to take a second opinion on my numbers since I wont trust these guys who cant count anymore. Last time when I checked my LDL was 80 and HDL 54, I hope the new numbers given by the lab is right.

Lenin, as Arizona 73 rightly guessed, I already have ischemic heart disease and had an angioplasty 6 months back. Perusing the dream of reversal since then. I have halved my LDL and doubled HDL since then, but still on 10mg statin. I would consider my battle with cholesterol to be successful if I can maintain both HDL and LDL at 70 without statin :)
