View Full Version : Help! I have a wedding to go to...

I am 3 mos post bunionectomy right foot and almost 8 weeks post bunionectomy left foot and I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks. What do I wear for shoes???

As it is, I have only been able to wear Tevas sandals comfortably so I've just stuck with them. I assume my next shoe will be a sneaker though I'm holding back a little because my sneakers are still not as comfortable as the Tevas.

Any advice from any women out there? What shoes can I/should I wear to this wedding?

Thanks!

a flat, thong sandal works for me.

Maddiesmom: My daughter recently got married. You could try low platform type shoes where there is some height with the whole foot elevated so there is very little slant. Although I'm 5 months post op, I could only wear heels for the ceremony then I switched to satin ballet slippers. I got them at a dance shop for about $20 and they worked great.

MM:

Don't wear these if you have flat feet! You need your support right now. Can you get your foot into any kind of slide? If you're still too swollen, look for something (I don't want to say 'velcro') that opens completely or loosens a great deal so you can tighten it once it's on your foot.

Go for a shoe w/as much width as possible - and up a 1/2 or a whole size.

I feel for you -- but since my wedding is 12 days away, I'm a bit pre-occupied!

Best of luck!!!

If you can't find anything, wear a sneaker and keep explaining. Show "before" pics of your foot if you have to!

Joll43: Congrats and let us know how everything goes. What kind of shoes are you wearing? What's your dress like? My daughter (she already has bunions) wore heels for the ceremony and then switched to decorated ballet shoes.

Wedding's in 11 days!!!!!

I actually found a slingback with a 2" heel and a pointy toe! My foot just slid right into it, no problem! It was a pretty emotional moment, since that's never happened before. I'll probably change shoes halfway through to a comfy sandal or even a sneaker (white Converse).

I have my third fitting today, and the dress is perfect. Ivory, simple, yay. Bridesmaids have their dresses (pewter), as do flowergirls (ivory w/navy sashes) & jr. bridesmaid (periwinkle). Sorry, was I talking about colors? I'm insane right now.

I've been working out like a madwoman, and I'm in better shape than I was before my bunionectomies -- it's making a huge difference in my feet. I'm still working on my scars, and I have stiffness every once in a while, but NO PAIN!!!

Thanks so much for asking! This has been some year.....

joll43: The colors sound beautiful. I'm sure things are crazy (were for my daughter too) but on the day of the wedding she was actually quite calm. Enjoy every minute of your wedding and you will be beautiful from your head down to those new feet!!!

Joll,
Great you are working out - am new to this board, how long may I ask has it been since your surgery and did you have both feet done? How long was it before you were back in the gym??

That is the hardest thing for me to come to terms right now.
I am thinking maybe by next week, I can go in and at least do upper body with wts, and maybe extensions w my good LT leg.
For aerobics they have a handicap chair with a wheel you can spin w your hands (like a bicycle wheel) that will do the trip and keep me seated.

But I look forward to the day when I can do pilates and ride my stationary bike!!
