Ok I know this sounds horrible but does anyone have any ideas on how to get a 7 month old to take a pacifier. He has never liked it but he wants the sucking satisfaction. He has been using me as a human pacifier but I am trying to wean him, at least a little so I can sleep at night. He will suck his thumb at times but when I know he wants it he is usually upset and I can't get him to find his thumb. The only thing that works is the breast. Please can anyone help??? I keep trying to introduce the pacifier but he is not interested. We give him bottles of juice from time to time. I really thought that would make him try the pacifier but it hasn't helped. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try the winnie the pooh ones. DS and DD will only use these.I introduced my friend to them today. Her DD is 4 1/2 months and always refused them she took to it immediatly! Oh, and get the newborn ones even though it says 0/3 months. the bigger ones don't have the same structure and DD hates them. DS took the bigger ones at 18 months or so but hated them before then.Another friend of mine, her niece would also only take these but they had mickey mouse on them. They swiched characters but she thought they were being discontinued and bought whatever she could still find, lol.

yes I agree w/ shelliam, the nipple on the pacifier does matter. If your baby likes your nipple, try to find a pacifier that looks most similar. I would try dipping the pacifier in his favorite food and then giving it to him. You'll have to be persistant.

I would try a few different ones and look for ones that resemble your nipples. DD didn't like the one they tried to give her in the hospital, but she liked a different one we tried. Ironically, DD liked the bigger ones (3+ months) right from the start and wouldn't take the smaller ones. I think you just have to experiment. At that age, he might want to be held, so that might be part of the problem.

I have a ziploc bag full of different pacifiers we bought before DH and I found one DS would take. For awhile we dipped it in water so he would suck it.

Thank you for the advise. I finally went to the store and bought one of each kind. He finally found one he likes. He still doesn't take it like I would like but the last 2 nights he has only nursed twice during the night, the other times I gave him the pacifier and he went back to sleep. I think dipping it in water thing might help too. Thanks
