Hello to all
I have had OCD since I was 13. I have never officially been diagnosed with it, but I know that I have it. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety problems though. But, I have read that with OCD there is always an underlying anxiety disorder. What I have been wondering, is if you think that the OCD comes from the anxiety, or if the anxiety comes from the OCD??? From personal experience I think that maybe the anxiety comes from the OCD, but those are just my thoughts. Would love to hear what you think....

I don't really know how to answer you, but OCD is an anxiety disorder in itself.
Meaning that anxiety is part of it (most of it, sigh).
I believe that stress of any sort (non-OCD anxiety, such as a loss, divorce, family problems) can trigger its onset.
I hope that helps,

OCD is an anxiety disorder. The way I figure it, the obsessions come from anxiety and the compulsions are the way to control these anxious feelings and an attempt to restore our sense of control in general. My main OCD behaviours, like checking, were dormant for many years until a recent trauma, then a lot of these tendencies returned -- even though they were completely unrelated to the trigger -- and accompanied by general paranoia and insecurities.

I dont know what to think really.. i know i had some little quirks when i was really young (8-12yrs old) that could have been the start of OCD.. between the ages of 17-19 i was suffering with sever anxiety disorder & panic attacks not related to any thoughts or compulsions.. the OCD didnt become noticable to anyone (not even me) until my mid 20s when i noticed i was checking the stove alot before i left the house.. my OCD is really weird for compulsions sometimes i have them (checking & hand washing) but 95% of the time its just obsessive thoughts. i guess thats why i got diagnosed with Pure-O OCD.
i guess for me the ocd was always there but it took the anxiety and panic attacks to really make it come out. :dizzy:

Considering that OCD is the most severe of all of the anxiety disorders and encompasses some aspect of the rest (for example, I have GAD, panic attacks, and severe phobias, too), I'd say it's most likely the OCD that causes the rest of the problems... ;)
