As I was in the process of waking up this morning, I kept tossing and turning in the sheets and kept feeling extremely dizzy. I sat up and my whole room was spinning...I could not keep focus on anything. I sat there a minuete and it went away. I got out of bed and made it to my couch where I then called my mother for advice. She asked if I had eaten the day before and I told her yes. I had not been drinking the night before...nothing unusual. We got off the phone and I showered still feeling sick and uneasy. When I got out of the shower and bent my head down to wrap the towel around my head everything started spinning again and I collapsed. Now, I do take prozac for depression and I had forgotten to take it the past few days, and I HAVE done this before and have NEVER had such a problem. I sat down trying to keep my cool and not panic. I took deep breaths and tried to focus on something until I felt somewhat normal again. Just to make sure it was not in my head, I forced myself to bend over again and see if I had the awful dizzy feeling again. I did...I noticed if I did NOT keep my head upright...I would feel this almost undescribable feeling again. If I tilted my head down or back...it was awful. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Does anyone know what might have caused these dizzy spells? I sat in one spot for an hour and finally it went away...and I am finally feeling a little better, I just wish I knew what on earth would cause this extreme dizziness. Also.....I have suffered from panic attacks in the past and I don't think this is panic related , but I could be wrong....I just never had quite a dizziness caused from bending over or backward. Anyways..anyones help will be greatly appriciated. Thank you for your time- Also..I have never had problems with my blood pressure before...I am only 18 and am in pretty good health so...again if anyone knows what this could be a sign of please help.

It could be, but it could be vertigo, sinus pressure, clogged ear canal. Im leaning more towards the latter than HBP. If it continues call your doctor for a check up. Also even though you haven't had dizziness while skipping doses of prozac, doesnt always mean your body will react the same, that is a possibility too.

Crabbyroad:

Thanks so much for your info. I am not quite sure what vertigo is though? Anywho...it is then end of the day and I am still feeling a little uneasy. Mainly I am just scared to go to sleep and wake up feeling like I am spinning in circles again. Anywho..thanks again-linziloo

. . . I got out of bed and made it to my couch where I then called my mother for advice. She asked if I had eaten the day before and I told her yes. You ate, but how much did you eat? You aren't anorexic, are you? Or extremely thin?

Decades ago when I was in high school and college, I used to get dizzy and even faint quite easily. I was extremely thin, 5'5" and 103 pounds, even though I tried to gain weight. I never went to a doctor for it, but now suspect that it was probably a combination of low blood sugar and low blood pressure.

I also get dizzy sometimes when I'm coming down with the flu or a virus of some kind, perhaps not as extremely dizzy as you say, but dizzy enough to stay put for a while instead of moving around. So do you feel well otherwise?

All the things crabbyroad suggested are also possibilities. If you have the problem again tomorrow, you might want to call your doctor for an appointment.

Uff-Da :

Well, I am 5'2 and 120...so I am not anywhere near too thin and I am not anorexic. I had eaten plently the day before and I have never had dizziness like this before... I looked up my symptoms online and I think I may have BPPV....I am going to see about going to my doctor tomorrow..I am really concerned about this-Thanks again-Linziloo

Linziloo, what you are describing is classic vertigo attacks. I have Menieres disease as well as my other problems and I get these attacks all the time as part of the condition. As well as the room spinning your eyes may feel like they are spinning around in their sockets...right? As said before you may have an ear infection or any problem to do with the ears.

MarinaO:
I think it could be vertigo attacks also..but I am just so concerned as to what would cause them? I looked up my symptoms online and I think I may have BPPV:heres an insert explaining it.
In Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) dizziness is thought to be due to debris which has collected within a part of the inner ear. This debris can be thought of as "ear rocks", although the formal name is "otoconia".

But this sounds more like what happened to me:
There are some rare conditions that have symptoms that resemble BPPV. Patients with certain types of central vertigo such as the spinocerebellar ataxias may have "bed spins" and prefer to sleep propped up in bed These conditions can generally be detected on a careful neurological examination and also are generally accompanied by a family history of other persons with similar symptoms.
I am just so concerned.. I am so young and I don't have any serious health problems..( or at least none I am aware of) I am wondering if I should see a doctor asap so look into what happened..if you have anymore info about these vertigo attacks or what can cause them please let me know! And as far as the ear thing.. I have heard that could be a problem also, but I dont have any ear aches or problems that I am aware of either. Thanks again SO much- Lindsey

Linzi,
My mom had vertigo due to impacted wax deep within the ear canal, no ear aches, etc. They clean out the impacted wax, do not use Qtips or cotton swabs to do this yourself (Again, we are only speculating of what you MIGHT have), also she was on a mild steroid for a few days and bed rest and it went away.

CrabbyRoad,

Yes, I have been thinking it could be an inner ear infection, although I have had no ear aches or problems of that sort. I guess that does not really matter though. My only problem now is wether or not to see the doctor. I have been speaking to my mother about it ( I go to her for advice ) and she thinks I should wait and see if something happens again or how I feel by the weekend until I go to the doctor. I am just afraid of something worse happening. Would you suggest going to the doctor asap and getting my ears checked? Right now that is sounding like what I really need to do. Anywho thanks again so very much! Linzi

Linzi, What worse thing can happen that could be worse that Vertigo :dizzy: it is one of the most debilitating things that you can have especially when you start vomiting with it. Yuk!! Just a thought, do you have any ear noises, if so then you could have Menieres disease, mine started when I was 18!
The main thing is though, we could all speculate on what it could or couldn't be but the only way you are going to find out and have your mind put to rest is go to your Doctor. :D Take Care, Marina

LinziLoo,

It's a bout of something called LABYRINTHITIS, an inflammation of the inner ear. It's usually viral and often comes on a little while after a recovery from a cold.
There isn't anyththing you can do with it except to treat the symptoms which could last one day, a couple days, or longer.

Best drug around for the dizziness is MECLIZINE that you can get by prescription or OTC in a product called DRAMAMINE NON-DROWSY FORMULA (or non-sleepy or something like that.) The symptom that you are suffereing is VERTIGO, a swirling feeling that usually results in severe nausea that gets worse if you try to walk or move your head. Take the meclizine (25 mg.) and lie down...take again in a couple hours...dutring an attack try to do NOTHING, you won't be able to anyway.

My last bout a couple years ago was HORRIBLE but it lasted only about 6 hours....yeah, ONLY  . I had to crawl to the bathroom to vomit and feel my way because linear movement was so impossible if I opened my eyes...all I saw was a whirlpool of walls and furniture swirling by.
