Hi, my wife suffers from severe migraines a couple times during the month and takes migraine pills to help. The problem is they are really expensive and we pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed. Are there any generic migraine pills that work really well? Thanks.

As of right now, there are no generics available for current migraine medications (Imitrex, Relpax, Frova, etc.). Generics become available when patents for drugs expire. I believe Imitrex will be the first to go off patent, sometime in 2006 (if an extension isn't granted first).

I agree with Mz Migraine- ask you doctor for samples. My doctor gave me several boxes of different medications when I was last in to see him and said that if I needed additional samples to let him know. My sister also gets migraines and she does the same thing. Most doctors are glad to help you out.
