:nono: hi everyone, my name is trainmomma. i would like to kmow if this has happened to anyone else. On sept 12 i went for a regular colonospy. about 10 minutes into the procedure my doctor noticed a blockage, instead of stopping he pushed a little further and perforated my colon. I WOKE IN SO MUCH PAIN I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. my doctor apologized and made me wait for a surgeon that he thought would be better than the one on hand. three and half hours later a sugeon came in and took one look at me and put me in surgery. he had two cut off three inches of my colon and repair the inside of my stomach but to that he had to cut me from my bellybutton to my hairline (25 staples outside 50 inside). TWO WEEKS LATER I AM STILL IN PAIN AND STILL HAVE NOT HAD A REGULAR BOWEL MOVEMENT. THANK GOD FOR LAXATIVES. I HAVE FELT VERY ANGRY AND ALONE JUST WONDERIN IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE AND HOW LONG DID IT TAKE TO HEAL.

Hi - How terrible that no one bothered to explain to you what had happened and tell you the details of what surgery had been done. do you feel comfortable with your doctor? He/she shoud certainly tell you exactly what happened and why! You are entitled to ask for the results of the procedure you had, which should explain everything. Then, if you aren't satisfied with th answers your present doctor gives you, you can ask for a second opinion. Good luck! I hope you'll feel better soon.

I would get all the reports, go to another doctor for a second opinion. This is not good, I would be beyond angry. I am so sorry this happened. I would get a lawyer as well. good luck Lizard50

May I also suggest that for those who are getting a colonoscopy for the first time that you keep your story to yourself. Yours is a very very rare case. To share your story with those who are just getting this done will really freak them out, and they don't need that. I don't always share that I had cancer when they are just getting this done. It is hard enough to get this done.My husband won't get it done because I think that he is afraid he may have cancer, so I am working with him on this.Lizard50

To keep stories like this "to yourself" is dangerous behavior... It is not a good thing to keep this information away from people who are going to have the procedure done.

Patients NEED to know these type of things, so they can better prepare for this procedure... ie. actually downing ALL the laxatives given for the procedure, instead of saying... "oh this is enough"... and researching to find a doctor/GI/colorectal surgeon who is specialized enough to notice something like this...

To anyone who has this type of information, I urge you to come forward and share.

People need to protect themselves, and stories like these allow patients a chance to see bad things do happen, and they might actually need to take the time to find someone who has a proven track record of A+ procedures.

Although a small percentage actually experience things like this, it is still good for everyone to be informed of ALL the risks.

Thanks for sharing this story trainmomma, I am very sorry this happened to you.

I feel extremely bad for Trainmomma and what happened to her. I replied to another post she made to warn Cath1024. If any of you had been following Cath's story, you would realize that she has a severe anxiety problem which is most likely her only real problem. She really needed to get her colonoscopy so she could stop obsessively worrying that she has colon cancer. To share such a scary experience right before she had to go in (right after she had already begun the prep), when she has already suffered so much with anxiety that she had to go on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds, in my opinion, is somewhat insensitive. There may have been a better place for that post. I also didn't get the sense that the poster had read the whole story. I totally agree, that information is hugely important to all of us and we should share what we know, information empowers us, but it should definitely be tempered with the odds that are very low for these rare occurrences. We are here to inform, but also to give emotional support, which I think includes helping each other to put our minds at ease. You all have my utmost respect and I know everyone makes comments out of love and concern. That's how I try to approach my posts as well. :) Trainmomma, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
