Well I guess that I'll start of with pretty much the start of my blood pressure problems.

Last Feb. I had surgery on my kidney to fix my ureter and during the surgery, the Doctor had cut my renal artery. The thing is, we(the doctors and I) did not know that it was cut so I was bleeding internally for a week. Overall I lost 6 pints of blood and I had to get an angiogram done to stop the bleeding on that artery. The doctor told us that we'd lose 30% of my kidney but never mentioned anything about me having high blood pressure.

Late last month, I went for a run and when I came back into my dorm, I was extremely dizzy. When I was in the food court I could not focus my eyes and felt extremely light headed. Since this episode I have not felt this way but I have not been running as often as before.

When I went to get my physical earlier this month, the doctor said that my BP was high and asked me if I was nervous (I was not at all). Since then I have gone to the store and got my BP taken in those chair machine thingys. A couple of weeks ago I got it taken it was 150-75 but this past sunday I got it taken and it was 160-80. In the past I had very low BP (100-55 or so) and besides the accident on my artery, I have not really had any changes to result in a higher blood pressure.

I'm 18 years old, 6'3" and 176 lbs. I'm a distance runner and I dont do any drugs/drink. I'm just wondering if I should seek help as soon as I can.

Rexing,

Buy or borrow an autoinflating, digital BP tester and get your readings, relaxed and reclined at home. Those store testers will give wonky reading for many reasons and are not to be trusted.

If your BP is indeed high, it is probably from the kidney damage you suffered at the hands of this malevolent quack (I assume you have a law suit going.)

Who and how determined the 30% loss of kidney function as a result of this overlooked prolonged bleeding from the botched surgery. Please don't have any more dealings with that doctor.

I guess checking your renal artery after kidney sugery, something even a first year mned student would do, might have caused him to be a few minutes late on the golf course. Poor dear!
