I have 2 healthy children, and one on the way. I have a 1/2 neice with CF and so my OBGYN tested me for it. I"m a carrier and they want my dh to get tested for it. There is NO history of it in his family and it would be very hard for him to get to the genetic place to have the test.

If this baby has it, we aren't going to get rid of it. I read that if he is a carrier then we still only have like a 25% chance of this baby having it.

My father has had 7 children, at least 10 + grand kids and there is only one with it. that is THE ONLY one in all our family history that we know of.

My 1/2 sister also has 2 other non effected children. Should I be concerned about this?

Neither DH or I have a family history of CF either. But we found out DS had CF at birth. 25% chance of having a child with CF is a one in four chance and most people we know with children who have CF have more than one child with CF.

Would've been nice if we had known ahead of time because a few hours after DS was born they spent hours running tests, trying to figure out why he was vomiting -- turned out he had a bowel obstruction and had to be lifeflighted to a children's hospital. If we'd known ahead of time, we could've made arrangments for surgery immediately after he was born -- not 24 hours later after his bowel became inflamed and a portion of it burst during surgery. He could've DIED!

Guess if you need peace of mind and you think you're going to be stressing out and worrying about it -- have him get the test. If he's not a carrier, then no worries.

My Dh nor I knew of anyone in our family to have CF or anything then I found out much later that my 1st cousins third daughter has it, if I had know I'd been tested to prepare instead of waiting 8 months after she was born and not gaining any weight. If I were him I'd be tested to make sure, so you and the doctors can be prepared.

My dad's first cousin's son had CF. That was so far away from our immediate family it wasn't given a though until my son was born.

Even if your hubby tested positive it's not to say that the baby will have it. I would not lose sleep over it. Cross the bridge when you come to it. JMO
