I got a new couch and after a day i noticed a smell and saw online its the same outgassing as in new carpet.Im so annoyed as i was so careful when i got new carpet(kids were out of house a few days, they aired it out at the warehouse). So i got it sunday and The kids had maybe a few hours exposure but i had the windows open. Then yesturday i was downstairs all day but had some exposure a few hours last night.Today the smell is almost gone and I have the windows open all day so that should help and it will be 48 hours this afternoon so the smell should be almost gone.So now im a bit worried.I know its short term exposure but still worried!!

When I got my new couch a few years ago I noticed a smell too. Probably from particle board and foam rubber. It wasn't too bad and did go away after about 3 months. I keep the couch near a window and I had the sun shining on it. I am a believer that the sun will burn out the chemicals faster.

Ventilate, ventilate, ventilate...easier to do in Spring or Summer but it takes pretty long for those outgasses to dissipate. And there's no assurance that once you stop smelling them that's the end of it, just that it's in lesser amounts.

From Grimm's Fairy Tales:
"Once upon a time furniture was made from WOOD, COTTON, and LINEN...
And all the people in the Kingdom breathed without worry!"
