Hello all. I have suffered heavy, painful periods since i first started at 13 years (im now 33). Was due to have laparoscopy then found out i was pregnant (baby now 10 mths).
Saw gyne today and he did an internal scan and said i have an enlarged uterus, which he believes is causing heavy periods (which have resulted in me being anemic).
Hes put me on a course of hormones for 3 months to see if this helps, if not he says my only other option is to remove my uterus!.
any body here had any similar experience?

Oh my yes! Enlarged uterus' is very common. But it is not your only option by any means.

You could try D&C w/hysteroscopy and/or endometrial ablation; myomectomy if you have fibroids; an IUD (I'm having one inserted next month)..birth control pills; UAE (uterine artery embolization).

Please investigate all options before you make such an irreversable decision.

I had the talk yesterday with my gyn regarding the same thing. My uterus is way too large for the ablation he tried. I'm 50 and have pretty much exhausted all options except the IUD...even my doctor wants me to hold off for as long as I can because I'm so close to the change...but with no symptoms yet.:(

Best of luck, and like I said...investigate all and I mean, all your options first!

Hi,I have been there too.
I was dx with an enlarged uteris 9 years ago. Have severe painful periods(since I was 13 too), severe painful ovulation and so on....Was put on the pill and Naproxen sodium 550.
Well, mine was due to Adenomyosis, PCOS and severe pelvic congetstion.
I am 39 and ended up with a hyst. Everything gone but my cervix.
I would try meds such as the BC pill to see if it helps at all. It has to be determined what is causing thins. Is it Fibroids or Adeno? The problem with Adeno, the only true way od DX it is to remove the uteris and have pathology test it.
What is your doc planning on doing??

Hes put me on progesterone for three months to see if that helps, if not, as i dont want anymore children, he says to remove it rather than take meds for the next 20 years, plus all these heavy periods have lead me to become anemic for which ive just had a course of iron infusions (horrid i dont want no more of them!)
Ive tried mini pill (northisterone - it made me sick) and im a scardy cat when it comes to having things inserted into my body like the coil.
I too suffer with terrible 'gas' and i also get bad ovulation pains as well as period pains.
Im coming back as a male next time!
