View Full Version : My stress thalium test is abnormal

I'm 26 years and have been taking Toprol XL 50mg for 4 years now. My internal medicine doctor presribed it to me because I was complaining of very hard palpitations. He also noticed that my heart was beating very fast. This was 4 years ago .
This year I went to a city hospital in my neighborhood and I underwent an echo cardiogram and EKG. The cardiologist reported my echo was normal, but my EKG was abnormal and so we scheduled a thalium stress test at the hospital.
This was the report that I was given by the doctor, and he told me I tested positive for ischemia. Can someone tell me what these medical terms mean below?

Findings: There are small anterior and inferoseptal reversible defects. Parodoxical inferior wall defect.

Impression: Small anterior and inferoseptal ischemia.

My full meeting with the doctor is in 2 weeks and all he told me today was that I need a catheterization test. If there are any medical professionals here who can translate the above medical terms for me, is there something physically wrong with my heart walls or is it coronary artery problems? I hope I don't need open heart surgery at such a young age.

I'm not a med pro, but based on my experience:

The septum (septal, adjective) is the wall between heart chambers. Anterior and prefix infero is the location on the septum. Findings confirms impression.

Ischemia is lack of blood flow to areas designated.

Reversible defects means the lack of blood flow during stress test returns to normal at rest.

A cath test will determine the extent, and if there are any blockages or muscular defect. It may be wise to have the test done by a cardio that has intervention experience and qualifications. Otherwise one dr. will do the test and another dr. will do stents if needed or some other intervention.

Do you or did you have any pain or shortness of breath with test?

I did not have chest pain, it only lasted 7 minutes. I did get shortness of breath. So what you are saying if there is blockage they would put a stent, if there is a muscular defect, would it be open heart surgery? I'm nervous about that one.
