Hi,
I was recommended by my dentist for her to remove a part bony impacted wisdom tooth because of abscess. Should I allow her or should I consult an oral surgeon instead? Also she plans on using oral sedation( Ativan,Demerol and phenergen). Is this safe and will it make me sleep so I don't have to hear those awful sounds of cutting bone out or whatever they do. Thanks a bunch. I am very nervous @ this.

nope, go to an oral surgeon.. look in the phone book or ask some friends if they know any.. or what u can do is call ur dentist and tell him/her u would rather go to an oral surgeon so u can get put to sleep.. he will refer u to an oral surgeon.. these oral surgeons do this every damn day.. wouldnt u rather going to them? yes.. and ull get general instead of local.. its so cool.. its so weird and fast.. its like nothing every happend.. u dont need to be tramatized.. so call that dentist!! get a referral to an oral surg..

ur gonna be fine.. dont worry.. just relax and get it over with.

Dentists can do it...but since they don't do those kind of oral surgery's on a regular basis, maybe once every month or two, depending on the practice, they just aren't that proficient at it. Oral sedation is just a pill to help you relax. You will be awake, just really relaxed and sleepy. Go to an oral surgeon, they do a much better job, and quicker. They can also knock you out, that will make it worth while.
Good Luck!

I also recommend that you see an oral surgeon. While your regular DMD is perfectly capable of doing I tend to believe that OS's are much more proficient. And believe me the general anesthetic is much better.
