Hi Toni. I really sympathise with you. My nanna is 84 and about a year ago she was suffering from the same sort of thing as your nanna. She went incredibly thin and was coughing up some horrible stuff! Anyway, it turned out she had a chest infection but it got worse and the doctor failed to realise that that she also had pneumonia. Anyway, luckily she recovered. Make sure your nanna gets to see the doc. It might be something simple but with older people it affects them more. I wish you and your mom all the best. Good luck and I'll be praying for your nanna and wishing she gets better real soon. Love Deb.xx

I hope everything went ok at the hospital. My Memaw is 88 and she fell in the middle of the night when she got up to get water Saturday night. That scared me so I know something like this is scaring you. Anyways this lady I work with is late 70's and for about the past month she has all of the sudden been going to the doctor at least once a week cause she has an enlarged heart. She lost her appetite and has other small things wrong. It can be anything unexpected. It could also be from her going through depression of her hubby dying! You never know but the doc. is the best thing right now I'd say. Good luck to you and I hope for the best!

Hi thanks everyone :) My nanna has a blockage in her gullet. There sending some of it of for tests and shes had a scan but they wont know what it definatley is for a while. The woman said she thinks its cancer because she has seen it before.Thats why she cant eat because her gullet is so blocked. She cant even drink so shes in hospital and they are putting he on a drip to get fluids and food into her.If it definatley is cancer i dont think my nanna will want to do anything because of her husband dying. But surely isnt that abit selfish.I dont mean that nasty to her because i can understand but my mum would be devastated!loosing her mum and dad within 2 years.I want my nanna to be happy and maybe if she wants to die we should let her but we all want her here.

I know im thinking ahead abit but because the woman said shes sure its cancer where all worried!and because of her age they might not be able to do anything!

Who is this "woman" who says it looks like cancer because she has seen it before? Is she a doctor? Even if she is, I don't think its very nice to say that she thinks its cancer before they're even sure. Whatever the outcome, encourage your nanna to be positive. I know it is all doom and gloom at the moment but lets wait and see what the results are first. Just take things one step at a time and try not to feel too overwhelmed even though things are very difficult at the moment. Love Deb.

Toni,
Even if it is cancer, don't give up. A year ago my mother, who was 89 at the time, had a cancerous mass the size of a lemon removed from her colon. She is now perfectly healthy with no cancer...never needed chemo or radiation. There is hope for recovery, even in older people. Keep the faith and tell your nanna you love her.
