kierrasmommy 10-01-2005, 12:45 AM Well, we have been through the TTC boards, the pregnancy boards and now we are moving on to the next milestone...the infant boards!!! :bouncing: These boards have been a wonderful place to vent, cry, celebrate, laugh, and bond with each other in our journeys through pregnancy and birth. Not only have the August Mommies been keeping together but we have had many visits from other Mommies as well, we hope to continue discussing our babies progress, milestones, setbacks, as well as questions and advice in this thread. The August Mommies/August Babies thread will not only allow us to continue to compare our progress, but prepare others for whats to come as well. Although we may be the August Mommies, we welcome everyone in our thread.
That being said, I will start out our thread with an update on Kaden.
Kaden is 6 weeks old today. :D He is growing so quickly that I sometimes get sad because it feels like it is going so quickly that I am not having enough time to enjoy it completely. He smiled at me for the first time yesturday...first voluntary smile I should say, because he has smiled alot up until now, mostly in his sleep, but yesturday he actually smiled at me, I almost melted it was so cute. I have my 6 week checkup next Thursday, I think I may ask about post partum...I don't think I have full force post partum, but I do have instances where I feel sad...like when I see how quickly Kaden is growing. And I have a lower patience threshold than I normally do, mostly because I think sometimes Kierra (our 3 year old) is still testing her boundaries...but it's when I have that low patience threshold that I feel sad again because I feel like if only I had more patience I'd be a better Mom...not that I am mean or anything to Kierra, but I want to a fun Mom and I hate always having to say don't do this or don't do that or Kierra leave that alone etc...I don't have alot of patience with my DH right now either. I feel like a single parent because I do everything, he works and comes home or goes out for "a beer with the boys", Kaden is 6 weeks old today and my DH has not changed one diaper. I sometimes feel like my husbands social life is more imortant than his family life and I hate that because I don't want a part time husband or father for our children. My sister thinks I am moody, but she see's that I'm not happy with DH right now, is it just me or is this normal? Does it sound like PP? Other than that I am wondering about Kaden's eyes...he sometimes still goes cross eyed for a few minutes...I know it is normal until their eye muscles gain strength and according to my books it could take up to 6 months...he has gotten better but he still will go cross eyed...anyone elses babies still doing that? I remember Kierra did it but don't recall how long it lasted for. He has his 6 week check up Tuesday so I will ask there too, but wanted to compare with all of you.
Well, I should go. Take care and talk to you all soon.
HI Kierrasmommy,
Thanks for starting this board!
Well Troy will be 10weeks on mon. He's doing awesome! He's 14lbs and 23 inches now..(he was 7lbs 4oz..20inches at birth) He's feeding every4 hours which is a blessing! He's finally starting to smile..i was getting worried because i heard other babies were starting to smile earlier..but as time passed his big day came and we too melted!! :)
I thought i was getting bad baby blues because i was crying but as Troy started to sleep longer through the night i started to feel better. I found that i was sad/mad more at night than the day. My dh helps a lot..he gets up at night and changes Troy's diaper before i feed and would sit with me until troy was done. At times i was moody with him but realized that i shouldn't be!
I feel bad for you as your dh doesn't seem to want to really help....have you talked to him about this? I hope he comes to realize that you're working hard and need his help and company. I know that guy's "need" to have some buddy time but they should maybe try and lessen this time with a newborn at home and a "sad" mommy. I'm not sure if i really helped you with this but i thought i'd comment :(
I was also worried about Troy's crossed eyes but then one day he wasn't cross eyed..this about 2 weeks ago..Maybe Kaden will be the same!!
I've also started to give Troy a bottle (breastmilk) once a day..well actually today will be the 2nd day...he took it quite well yesterday and i hope he does the same today.
This kind of makes me sad because this means he's starting to grow up :( But i wanted to get him started on the bottle so when the time comes to have one he'll have no problem later.
He also had his 2mos shots a few days ago..and i almost cried because he was in so much pain! But he calmed down a few minutes later and I think i was still frazzled a few hours later..it's hard seeing your baby cry like that! But he's doing fine...(except that night i was up every few hours to make sure he was ok, which he was and i just lost sleep over nothing!)
Well..i hope other mommies post as well!
talk to you soon!
S :)
Laur77 10-01-2005, 04:06 PM Hi
I didn't get to know all you August moms on the other boards as I was supposed to be a July mommy. But I guess babies don't pay attention to these things! My little guy is 2 months tomorrow. He is so big! He is going to the doctor soon for his shots so I am interested to see how much he has grown. He is wearing six month clothing, and some of them fit pretty snug!
I agree it is already going too fast. Right now he loves and needs me so much, and I don't want to lose that! But at the same time it is so cool to see him developing every day and I am so excited to see all the firsts to come.
My favourite part of the day is the morning when I go to his crib and say "Good morning Logan", and he'll turn to me and get this huge smile and kick his legs and wave his arms like crazy! I love it!
I was suppose to be an August mommy but ended up being a July mommy! :D
I can't wait until Troy smiles at me in the mornings!
S :)
kierrasmommy 10-01-2005, 09:13 PM Hi Ladies,
Good to talk to you both again. I'm glad that Troys eyes straightened out, I am pretty sure Kaden's will too because he seems to be less and less cross eyed as time goes on...I was more worried early on because I remember when Kierra's(our first child) eyes were crossed and we'd cover her eyes she'd refocus correctly, but Kaden didn't do that and sometimes still doesn't but I am happy that he seems to be getting stronger eye control now. My husbands eyes never did straighten out and when he was 3 he had surgery on the one eye to fix it, so I think we are even more focused on Kadens eyes than we normally would be because of that. Kaden doesn't smile often yet but he does smile at least once a day on purpose...he still smiles in his sleep.
The husband issues go a bit deeper and he's never in the mood to discuss things so I have been emailing him so I know he knows what I am feeling...I know sad that we have to resort to email, but that seems to be the only way I can get my points across. He sometimes gets better and then things go back to the same old story. My sister is going to talk with him this week because I can't seem to get through to him and we are wondering if he thinks it's all just me...but maybe if my sister tells him that he is being an idiot maybe he'll open his eyes. His social life includes Walmac Billiards league once a week, hockey league once a week and "going for a beer" which is often a few hours at least once a week. So combined with him working full time it just seems like he is gone more than he is home. Well, I should go, keep in touch ladies. Oh! have your babies rolled over yet? And if yes, how old were they?
Kierrasmommy,
Well, at least he knows how you're feeling...even if it is through email. I think i would have been doing the same thing if it was me. He does seem like a busy guy..especially with him working full time...but he still needs to come home to his family. I hope your sister can try and help and I hope things start to get better soon.
Troy hasn't started to roll over yet..he's not even close!! I wonder if we should be working on that? Does Kaden sleep through the night? Troy doesn't..he goes to sleep at about 10pm and then he likes to get up at 1:30-2am (this is about an hour and a half before it's time to eat) so i give him his pacifier..he falls asleep till about 3am and eats..and then is wide awake at 6:30am-7am. I guess this is better than we he was first born..he was eating every 2 hours and lasting for an hour!
Also..will you be starting Kaden on formula? If so..when would you start? Would it be ok to breastfeed through the day and give him a bottle once? and maybe alternating days?(breastmilk one afternoon and then formula the next?) Also..do you think formula makes babies more gassy? Anyone can answer this question too if you're doing something like this :)
Laur77,
Troy is also in 6mos clothes...he's starting to wear a few 6-9mos too...they're a little big but they're not as snug as some of the 6 mos! :)
It's amazing what the sizing of baby clothes are!
Well talk to you ladies soon! It's feeding time!
S :D
kierrasmommy 10-02-2005, 05:16 PM S&J,
No Kaden is still on his birth feeding schedule...he eats every 3 hours...there has been 2 or 3 times he lasts 4 hours but that's during the day and not at night. But I'm not complaining...he is really good at going right back to sleep, he never stays up and both kids aren't early risers so I at least get to sleep in a bit. Do you change diapers or turn on lights at night? I have found if I turn on lights or change his diaper he is harder to get back to sleep...so I only change his diaper if he is leaking or poopy, otherwise he gets a late night diaper change before I go to bed usually between midnight and 1am and then not again until morning...I make sure to put lots of diaper cream and we use very absorbant diapers so it hasn't been a problem. We have a hall night light and I changed the bulb in our bedside lamp to a dim blue bulb so if I need light I turn that on because it is very dim, otherwise I leave all the lights off. I just get him feed him, burp him and once he falls asleep again...which he tends to do during his feeding, I put him back to bed and go to sleep. He is in 3/6 month clothes and he's 6 weeks old now, but there is a few things that are 0-6 months that he's in and one diaper shirt that actually says 12 months....when he got weighed at 4 weeks he was 12lbs 2oz, I'll find out tuesday what he's at now but I think he may be starting to slow down a bit now. I am still breastfeeding, I do know a few of my friends had problems with formula when their babies were smaller...Kierra was 9 months old when I introduced it to her and I had to experiment 3 times before I found one she digested OK. Up until then if I wanted to bottle feed her I'd pump and freeze, I eventually had a good size storage supply of milk. They say breastmilk is easiest to digest, but I know they've come out with a few new formula's since I was at that stage so they may be better now...ask your pediatrician what s/he recommends. If it were me I'd start by mixing a portion of breastmilk with the formula and gradually increasing the formula portion...this may be easier of a transition. Are you going to go the formula alone or are you just planning on once in a while? For the rolling over, I don't know if we can really practise that skill, but I think I am going to pull out our floor jungle mat and get him on some regular tummy time, I didn't do it early enough with Kierra and she hated being on her tummy, so she ended up being a late crawler.
Well, I should go my sister is here trying to make my husband go "car shopping" with her so she can have their discussion...I'll chat with you guys later.
Laur77 10-03-2005, 11:41 AM S&J
We have supplemented with formula almost since day 1. For the first few weeks he was just eating constantly, and I needed a break (for sanity, and soreness!). We were lucky, we never had any problems with nipple confusion. DS is such a big eater, that as long as it has food in it, he'll take it, lol!! We don't give him formula every day, just sometimes in the evening so I can eat supper, hubby will give him a bottle. Or if I have an appointment, he goes to my mom, and she'll give him a bottle. We haven't had any problem with gas, etc. We started with the Enfamil, then realized the Presidents Choice (in Canada, don't know if you have that??) has the EXACT same ingredients, and costs less than half the price. We use the powder, but I am thinking that for the little we use it, it won't cost us that much more for the ready-made. Less waste too as you can only use the powder for one month after opening. I have a can that is not even half gone and will need to throw it out soon (could have bought a smaller can too, still getting used to all this!). By the way, supplementing has not affected my milk supply.
I know some people who feel guilty giving supplementary formula, but I don't because I know he is getting tons of nutrients in the breast milk he gets 95% of the time. A little formula won't affect this, and I have found it a sanity saver! I have tried to pump to supplement when needed, but I find he eats so much, that I rarely have enough milk (or time) to pump. Hope this helps!
kierrasmommy 10-04-2005, 12:41 PM I have another question for those of you using formula....did you notice if baby seemed to last longer between feeds when you switched...I am wondering because I know they say that breastmilk is very easy for them to digest so I wonder if they need to eat more often if they are just breastmilk babies and if their formula fed buddies last longer between?
Sarahj 10-05-2005, 05:02 PM Hi All...Glad to see the new thread in the infant board. I barely have time to get online any more. Tala is still struggling with digestive issues and doesn't sleep well. She gets up two or three times at night still. She isn't always hungry when she wakes up though. We are going 3-4 hours between feedings usually. She has been on Enfamil ProSobee for all but 2 weeks of her life. She was projectile vomitting the milk based stuff up. She also didn't like my breastmilk either. Anyone have recommendations on how to get her to sleep better. Gas and reflux seems to be waking her alot. She sleeps best on her stomach laying on my chest but I do not want to get that started long term.
I went back to work part time (30 hours a week) so she is now in daycare. We are finally getting over her thrush but now think she may be teething early. Our daycare provider noticed it yesterday so I am going to make an appointment with the doctor. She is 2 months on Sat so I think it's a tad early for it but who knows. She is growing but is still very small. She is starting to fit into 0-3 months stuff instead of preemie and some of it is actually too big. It seems to depend on the brand. She has been rolling from her side to her back and side to her stomach for several weeks. I did find her on her stomach once after I put her on her back but I didn't see her actually turn. She also moves slowly across her play mat when on her tummy. Kinda like a crawl only with her legs flat. She is either a really happy baby (smiling, cooing, and giggling) or pissed and screaming. No happy medium with her I guess :-)
Kierrasmommy- I understand how you feel about your husband and his being gone alot. My boyfriend is the same way. He stays home until the older kids are in bed (usually at 8 pm) then takes off to his friends house, or somewhere. On the weekends we do not have his older 2 kids, I like to try to get a sitter for Tala and spend time alone but he almost always makes plans with his friends. He tries to get me to tag along with he and his friends and doesn't realize why I am not interested. I do not mind doing that once in a while but I feel like we need to spend alone time together too. He and I were only dating for 5 months when I got pregnant so our relationship wasn't fully formed before we became parents. We live together and sometimes I feel like the fact that we sleep next to each other is all the "alone" time he needs. I have talked to him about it but it is hard for him to understand. We both love each other, we just don't have the same needs when it comes to spending time together. Usually when I make a big deal about it, he takes time to spend it with me but I get frustrated that I have to go to that much to see him. I hope you are able to get your feeling across to your husband because it is already frustrating dealing with 2 kids. Add a less-than-attentive husband and I am sure your frustration level is much higher.
It sounds like everyones babies are doing well. I'll check in when I can.
Sarah
kierrasmommy 10-06-2005, 12:56 AM Sarah,
Have you tried elevating the head of her mattress...they have wedges now that you can purchase that go on top of the mattress under the sheet of course that elevates them, a friend of mine gave me hers as her son never slept in his crib until he was about 7 months old and by then it was useless to her but I found it helpful because Kaden was a bit musousy the first week or so and twice even choked on his mucous, I found the wedge helped him as well as my peace of mind. I'm not sure where you are from but they have those wedges in the Sears catalogue here in Canada in the baby section. Otherwise talk to your pediatrician because I mentioned how Kaden has been cranky the last couple days when feeding and has always been spitting up, he said if it continued it could be reflux as well and he could perscribe something for it if it was still bothersome at his next appointment. I think my friends little girl had something perscribed when she was a baby 4 years ago and it worked wonders...before that the specialist had mentioned if the perscription didn't work that they could do a surgery to correct the reflux.
Well, Kaden had his pediatrician appointment yesturday and I guess he is very strong for his age...the pediatricain held him up horizontally so he looked like he was swimming and he actually held his arms head and legs all stiff, the Dr said they usually don't do that until 3-4 months. He now weighs 13lbs 1oz now...I think he is starting to slow down in his growing now, but he is still a little porker...I literally have to separate his little rolls on his thighs when I change him to make sure I don't miss wiping anywhere. My Mom thinks because he has such big hands that he is going to take after my Dad's side of the family...everyone was big, even my Grandma had big hands...to give you an idea of what I mean..my Dad's ring that fits his ring finger, is actually too big for my big toe! Kaden is starting to try to coo and "talk" to us now and smiles every day...not all the time but when he is recently fed and is happy. He still hates car rides though...he is OK if he is sleeping but if he isn't he screams non-stop until we either get where we are going and take him out or until we stop the vehicle and squirt a bit of his vitamin D drops in his mouth to trick him into sucking his pacifier longer. I don't know why he hates it so much, Kierra loved car rides as long as we were driving, she'd cry if we stopped at red lights.
My sister talked with my husband so hopefully he'll get it. I think it is more frustrating that he goes out as much as he does, than it is that he doesn't help out alot with Kaden. At least I know I am changing Kaden's bum the way I like it to be and he won't leak out of the sides or top because DH changed him or get a diaper rash because DH didn't put enough cream on or whatnot. I guess I don't mind being the major caregiver, I just wish DH was home more just to be there for me and to play or spend time with the kids. Once in awhile I need a break but for the most part I like doing things my way so him not doing much in that aspect doesn't bother me...him going out and drinking or doing his own thing (golf, billiards, hockey, poker etc) are more bothersome. The other day he said he needed to go out for a beer because he had a "Bad day"at work...a BAD DAY? what do I get when I have a bad day with half the amount of sleep he had the night before, a tempermental 6 week old who doesn't want to be out of my arms long enough for me to shower or even eat, a house full of chores waiting to be done...but can't be done while I hold our 6 week old, and a 3 year old who is testing her limits? My days aren't that bad but sometimes I feel like if I don't make excuses...why should he. Well, I should go. Kierra is having a sleepover at her Auntie's house and Kaden is sleeping so I am going to get a couple things done, slip into some nice cozy PJ's and watch some TV. I have my 6 week checkup tomorrow so I may be back tomorrow to post. Take care everyone.
Thanks for the formula advice :) I was just wondering how much formula i should mix with my milk? Say i have 2oz of milk how much formula should i mix? Troy eats at least 3oz of milk and sometimes a little bit more from me after. And, if i'm going somewhere and need to give him a bottle instead...should I thaw out the milk and mix the formula in at home or wait until i'm wherever i am and mix it there?
I'm also in Canada and am going to try enfamil and the presidents choice. It's a test and go kinda thing i see!
Sarah - I'm glad to hear that tala is growing. And rolling! Troy isn't even close to rolling!
Keirrasmommy - good to see that Kaden is a strong boy! I'm going to look for that wedge from Sears..as the nurse told me to put some books under the one side of the crib to elevate it but the wedge sounds better! Troy loves his car rides i guess..as he falls asleep everytime! I do the same with the Vit d at night when he's a bit fussy before bedtime.....i give him the Vit D and then the "soother" as we like to call it right after..it works like a charm:) It's good to see you "vent" about your hubby..sometimes that feels better eh? I hope he starts to help a litte more and you can have your rest. I know what you mean about doing things the "right" way! My dh is good about it but my mom still needs some reminding!! :)
Laur - how is logan doing?
Good to see everyone is doing ok! talk to you all soon!

Spanish 10-08-2005, 10:38 AM Hello All! I was supposed to be a July Mum but DD was born on 4 August. She's now 9 weeks old and growing fast (5.2kg now). She wears 0 - 3 months clothes mainly but the sizes vary so much don't they? Some of the 'newborn' stuff is still too big for her and yet she's grown out of some of the 0-3's!
I'm breastfeeding exclusively and she feeds anywhere between two hours and five hours during the day. Although occasionally we'll have a little blip, like last night when I fed her three times in four hours! She's starting to sleep longer at night and last night went from a feed at 10pm through to 6am for the next feed, which is the best we'v had so far. Mind you she was chuntering from 3.30 until 6am (you know waking up having a little cry, going back to sleep, waking up having a little wriggle about, going back to sleep etc) so I was only managing to doze myself for the last couple of hours.
She's normally a pretty happy baby, but currently she's being horribly grizzly in the evenings but I guess I just need to experiment to see what will soothe her and settle her down. She's also had a couple of grizzly days recently - I don't know what's wrong. We visited my parents last weekend and my Dad came down with flu so perhaps she's feeling a bit poorly. Apart from that I don't know - how do you know if they are teething early?
DD hasn't rolled over yet. I've seen her rocking her shoulders across but she hasn't mastered moving her hips over yet. She's just starting to bat at toys and try to reach for them, but she seems to get upset that she can't make her hands go where she wants them to...she stares at the toy and her breathing is really fast and she's waving her arms around but can't quite make them go in the right place. LOL.
Spanish
Laur77 10-08-2005, 05:54 PM kierrasmommy; my sister formula feeds, and I mostly breast-feed. Our little ones are 6 days apart. They seem to eat just about as often. The only difference is that her daughter will sleep right through the night after formula. My guy is up once or twice. However, I know a lot of people say formula fed babies go longer.
S&J; Logan is doing great. I raked a big pile of leaves today and took some pictures of him in it. Very cute. He pretty much slept through it! I don't know what to tell you about the formula question as I don't mix with milk. FYI, I looked for President's Choice pre-mixed formula, but doesn't look like they make it (or the store just didn't have it). They also didn't have small cans of formula, onlt the huge one! But it is still a lot cheaper than some of the smaller cans of brand-name stuff. Just seems like such a lot of waste as I will never use it all in a month.
Spanish; Logan has not rolled over yet either. He hates tummy time though, so I hope he gets determined enough to flip over!
kierrasmommy 10-08-2005, 08:58 PM S&J I'm not sure exactly about when is best to mix it, I always mixed it when I needed it, but I can't see why you couldn't mix it earlier, maybe call Healthlink or the pediatrician and ask them...for the portions I guess it is all a matter of how you want to approach it, if you want to wean, &/or how much you have pumped and how much you need to feed. If you are weaning off breastmilk I'd start at more breastmilk to formula ratio maybe 3 parts breastmilk to 1 part formula, then if baby digests it well you gradually change the portions increasing the formula more over time...I gave a couple days before changing portions (2 parts BM to 2 parts F, then 1 part BM to 3 parts F) that's just how I did it when I weaned Kierra off breastmilk. But I'm sure there's no set way, some people just give the straight formula and have no problems at all, while others find that doing that irritates baby's digestion. Check the Sears Catalogue for the wedge...I'll find my catalogue and tell you which one and what page it is if you don't find it by the time I come post again. Yeah, it does feel better to vent, I don't normally discuss stuff like that with friends or family so being able to here helps.
Spanish, I was going to ask everyone when babies starting sleeping longer so you beat me to it, I am just a couple weeks behind you and am looking forward to longer rests. Does DD still sleep in your room? I know I had to move DS to his room because he was such a noisy sleeper, which has helped but I still hear him so don't sleep very deeply.
Laur, Thanks for the sleeping info, having them that close together really helps to compare...did you guys plan to have babies that close together?
Well, gotta go, DH is in the family time mode, maybe that last discussion helped...so we are going to the R.V show, yesturday he took DD swimming and Monday we are all going to see the Wallace and Gromit movie...hopefully this trend continues....talk to you all soon, take care.
Kierrasmommy...i was only planing on giving him a bottle once in awhile..when dh and i want to go to a movie or something. I was wanting to mix formula with breastmilk to increase the ounces..as i'm only pumping 1-2.5 oz a day..and Troy eats almost 4oz. I totally forgot about Healthlink!! I called a few times in the beginning but never thought to call about this :) that's a great idea! Just another quick question...would I replace the water that's needed to mix the formula with breastmilk? Say i have the 2 oz of frozen milk..would i then add one scoop of the formula and that would make 3 oz right? This is all sooooo confusing! haha:)
I haven't had a chance to look at the Sears catalogue yet..but i'd love to get the page number!!
thanks !
Laur--i did the same thing today!!!! Troy looked soooo cute in the leaves. I had a little hat on and he was adorable!!! I didn't see any PC premixed formula either.
Spanish---i hope dd is feeling better!
Well gotta go
DH rented a scary movie and we're going to watch it right now!! ahhhhh :)
talkto you all soon!
S :)
Sarahj 10-09-2005, 12:23 AM Hello all..it is finally the end of my first week back to work. It was hard leaving her but is necessary. I just can't afford to stay home any longer.
Spanish-I know exactly what you mean about the baby clothes sizes. Tala has grown out of some of her 0-3 stuff too..but she also still fits into some of the preemie clothes we both after she was born. She is fitting nicely into 0-3 sleepers, which is what we usually put her in. It is starting to get cold here so I had to buy alot of new stuff and pack away her summer clothes. You also asked about teething...I have been told that if they turn away the bottle or breast after a few seconds and they are drooling alot that is an early sign of teething. Tala has discovered her hands and sucks on them constantly. She won't take a pacifier but will suck like crazy on her hands. She also started drooling a lot lately. Just in the last week or so. When we gave her the bottle she would go for it right away then after a few sucks, she would turn away and cry.
Kierrasmommy-we have started putting Tala in her swing to sleep at night. She actually almost sleeps through the night in it. Of course, we are going through the batteries like crazy! We will have to start moving her to her crib eventually just so she doesn't get too used to the swing. When we do, I will definitely be needed the wedge thing. She is already starting to get a little too used to the swing so that may have to be soon. Today we went shopping and we just couldn't get her to sleep until we got home and put her in her swing.
S&J-I think Tala is rolling early because of her size. She is still very small...about 10 lbs we think (haven't had her weighed...got on the scale without her then with her for an estimate). By the way, which enfamil were you going to try Troy on? Tala has always been on Enfamil..and we have tried several types.
Well, I'm going to get Tala up to "top off"...Glad to see everyone is doing well.
Kiedy 10-09-2005, 01:07 AM Sarahj,
I just did the same thing w/ my DS, for over 2mo he slept in his car seat and I just transfered him into his crib this week, worrying that he was too used to it (he would never lie flat on his back and always woke up if I tried putting him in his crib). I also worried about the constant position of his head. Luckly he was ok w/ falling asleep. The only problem for about 6 days was that he would wake up after 2 hours, rather than the 5-6hrs I started getting used to. Last night was the first nigth he slept 4hrs. Hopefully it will continue getting better. Hopefully it will work well for you too.
SarahJ
We ended up getting the powdered enfamil. We just wanted to try that first and if he takes it ok we may switch to presidents choice. I'm kind of scared to try formula because of gas that ds may have...but if that's going to happen we just deal with it! :)
HOw old is Tala again? When do baby's usually start to roll over? I guess it's different for many right? troy will be 11weeks soon and i'm wondering if i should be concerned?
well we're off to have some turkey at my relatives!
have a super day everyone!
S :)
Sarahj 10-10-2005, 02:44 PM S&J-Tala is 8 weeks old. She seems to be ahead on alot of her developmental things though. I wouldn't worry too much about Troy not rolling over at 11 weeks. Boys do develop alittle slower than girls. There is a little boy at my daycare that is 4 months and he hasn't rolled yet. It is true that every baby is different. Also, if the formula gives him gas, try gas drops. I have found that the name brands do make a difference of them. We tried a few off brands and they didn't seem to work as well. It may be because of the taste too..Tala will spit it out if she doesn't like it. We use "Little Tummies Gas Drops". We also have her on ProSobee because she doesn't digest milk well. It gives her gas but I figure we can handle gas more than the projectile vommiting she did on the milk based stuff.
Kiedy-Tala will lay flat on her back to sleep but it doesn't take long for her to wake. She inherited her mommies sinus trouble. She is very congested most of the time. We give her Saline Drops often which helps too. The swing and car seat seem to be the best for her. She fell asleep last night in the car seat on the way home from my grandparents. Rather than moving her I left her there and she didn't wake up for 7 hours! I figured she wouldn't sleep that night but she ate and went back to sleep for another 4 hours in the swing.

Yeah, Healthlink is great, I have used it quite a bit between Kierra and Kaden. I looked at my catalogues and I can't find that wedge now...!?!...I may just be blind, so I'll look again tomorrow, or it may have been in one of the older catalogues that expired...I'll try and find it for you though and get back to you. For the formula, I used breastmilk with the powder but after mixing it, it isn't much more than the liquid amount, (if I remember right) If you have 2oz of breastmilk and mix one scoop of powder it may come out to just about 2 1/2 oz but I can't remember really so you'll have to experiment...can you do me a favor? Let me know when you figure it out to refresh my memory. :) Eventually you will be able to pump more...I remember the first time I pumped I would be surprised if I got 2 tablespoons out! A couple months later I was able to get a few ounces out each pump. Then a few months later I went out with the girls for a spa, dinner and movie day, when I got home I was so full I pumped about 9 oz, and probably could have pumped more. Your fall leaves pics sound adorable, I did that with Kierra a couple years ago and they were so cute, but DH bought a new lawnmower this summer and it mulches leaves so I have no leaves to take pictures in...I may go over to a friends place and borrow her yard full of leaves. LOL. Tomorrow Canadian Baby Photograhers is coming over to take our "complimentry photo", their way of suckering you in to buying all the pics that come out way too cute to resist. They do Anne Geddes type pics as well as the regular photo's, but the nice thing is they come to you, they bring all the equipment and set up in your living room, and once the pics are processed they come show them to you so you never have to leave the comfort of your own home...but you pay the price for it in the pics...LOL...they are very nice pics though, high quality and the poses they do are unreal. They make it look like the baby is sitting up on his/her own, and the props they use and the quality, it is just all part of the reason you get suckered in to buying...I almost shouldn't have agreed to the session but I want to see how they turn out and I feel bad because we did do it for Kierra and I don't want him to feel left out because he didn't get any as well.
Sarah, DS is just starting to get used to his swing, he actually slept in it for 3 hours the other day but for the most part he is done after about 1/2 hour if I am lucky, he is one smart cookie, he likes to be held. How was your week back at work. I know how hard it is...I had a hard time going back after Kierra, and even though I have a long way to go I am dreading doing it again. DS is congested at night too, I thought he had caught a sinus cold when he was 3 1/2 weeks old, but he is still congested at night and at his last pediatrician appointment I asked the Dr and he said it's just because babies nasal passages are so tiny that any secretions and/or milk that sometimes makes it's way back up makes it sound like they are very congested. He said the saline drops are the best thing, and over time it will gradually go away.
Well, we just celebrated our first holiday with Kaden. Thanksgiving (Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canadians) we actually had the big dinner Sunday because my sister had to work today. Today DH, DS, DD and I all went to the Wallace and Gromit movie. I was surprised that there were as many people there as there were considering it was a holiday...they should have been making dinner, or celbrating at relatives homes. Kaden was good, he slept through half the movie and then when he woke up I held him and he started at the step lights and the dim wall lights for a bit, then he had a little snack (nice thing about dark movie theatres...didn't have to leave to feed him  ) and he fell asleep again. Kierra was good too, but when we left she said she didn't like the movie, she said it was scary, but she didn't cry or anything...I think the were-rabbit scared her...or the fact that the little rabbits were scared of the were-rabbit. K, I've consumed enough of your time for today. Geez...I have to start coming on here more so I can make lots of shorter posts and no more long ones like this. :nono:
kierrasmommy 10-11-2005, 04:22 PM I found it! I searched all my Sears catalogues and even called the 1-800# and had them search theirs and neither one of us could find the mattress wedge, so I called my friend who had bought the one I have and asked her, and turns out it was in the Toys'R Us catalogue! It's in the "Everything For Baby 2005" catalogue on page 31 and it's letter B. Hope that helps you, if you don't have the catalogue it is on their site and it's called a "Crib Wedge" by Jolly Jumper. Gotta go Kaden just woke up.
Talk to you later.
Kierrasmommy,
Thanks..i have that catalogue somewhere! I just have to search for it :)
Canadian baby photographers have "called" once but haven't called back to schedule a time..my cousins have had their pics done by them too and it's a whole lotta money! I think we're going to stick with Sears!
I've been doing "tummy" time with Troy. He's finally starting to lift his head and hold it there for like 5 secs! and then after that he cries up a storm.
He's not even close to rolling over..he just lays on his back and looks around or when he's excited he'll flail his arms and legs around! I think he's going through a growth spurt because he was up twice last night to eat...he'll usually go about 4-5 hours but last night he wanted to eat at 1am & then 4am and then he ate at 8am and then 11am..and he was sooo tired this morning..he never "zonks" out after his 11am feed..he usually stays awake for an hour and then has his nap....so i'm just assuming he's having a growth spurt.
I also tried the formula..i didn't mix it with my breastmilk like i wanted..but he took the bottle and formula with no problem. He didn't even get gassy like I thought he would!
Well i better get going!
talk to you all soon!

Laur77 10-12-2005, 10:28 AM Hey guys!
What is Healthlink? I have never heard of it. Is it for all of Canada? If so, can you give me the number.
Logan had his first shots yesterday. Don't know who was more traumatized. It was heart-breaking to hear him scream. Afterward it wasn't too bad though; he was very fussy for the rest of the day, but otherwise okay.
S&J; that's so funny that we did the same picture the same day! Glad the bottle went okay for you.
Spanish 10-12-2005, 03:54 PM Hi All
I don't want to speak too soon but, based on the last three evenings, we seem to be settling down into a routine. I'm feeding DD about 6pm then bath and massage and a cuddle, final feed at 8pm and she's been asleep by 8.30 - 9pm. On Monday night she then slept all the way through to 7.30am!!!!! Last night wasn't quite so good but she still went right through to 5am! I really, really hope that this continues.... fat chance I know. Someone asked whether she sleeps in with us (sorry I can't remember who) well sometimes she sleeps in our room and sometimes in the nursery. I sleep soo much better if she's in the nursery but then I feel guilty because everyone says baby should be in with you for six months. The thing is that I think she sleeps better in the nursery because we don't disturb her when we go to bed or if we are noisy in our sleep.
I've just started trying her with 'baby massage' and she seems to really love it. I've only been to one class so far so I can only do a bit but she was grizzly tonight and cried when I took her out of the bath. So I laid her on the towel and massaged her legs and tummy and she calmed right down and was gurgling and babbling happily all the time. She then stayed really calm and happy whilst I dressed her and got her ready for bed. I also really enjoyed it, it was nice 'bonding' time. I'd definitely recommend it.
Hope you and your little ones are all well.

Laur77 10-12-2005, 05:18 PM Spanish, glad to hear you are getting some sleep. I don't want to jinx it either, but my DS has been having some really long stretches at night too! I wake up at 7:00, and try to remember what time I was up during the night. Then I realize, hey, I wasn't! Don't feel guilty about having your baby in the nursery. I have my son in our room more for MY benefit than his. I know if he was in his own room, I'd be back and forth several times to check on him. I like that I can just look over at him and know he is okay :)
kierrasmommy 10-13-2005, 12:14 AM Geez you guys are making me jealous...Kaden slept for 4 1/2 hours last night and I was celebrating that. It's a start though. I went to the library to try and get the book, Happiest Baby On The Block that I've heard people recommend on here, but it was out so they are bringing another one in for me, should be here in a couple days. I want to try and see if there's anything in there that will help Kaden learn to fall asleep in his crib and not on Mommy. The night before last was a pretty rough night, he wouldn't sleep in his crib so he ended up sleeping on me most of the night, but lastnight was much better. Have any of you read the book?
Laur, HealthLink is Canadian as far as I know. It's a 24 hour health line that you can call and a Registered nurse will help answer your questions. There should be a page or section in the front of your phone book explaining it, with your local # to access it, otherwise the toll free # is 1-866-408-5465. I have used it alot. I took the fall leaves pictures today with the kids, I wish I would have done it a week or 2 ago though when the leaves were orange and red still, today they were mostly yellow and brown, but the kids were dressed colorfully so hopefully that will work. Well, gotta go, I'm making cookies...bad thing about not working is the urge to bake...will make losing weight harder I'm sure...LOL...I can't complain, I have been back to my pre-pregnancy weight since he was 10 days old...just want to tone up now and maybe lose more weight to get back to what I weighed before Kierra. Well, talk to you all again soon. Take care.
Hi all
I'm the same as you kierrasmommy..i celebrate if troy sleeps 4 hours too!
Last night he went to sleep at 9pm and then woke up at 3:45am for a feed! i was shocked! I asked my dh if he wanted to bet that Troy would wake up at 12:30am..as he was only sleeping for 3-4 hours..luckily we didn't bet anything!! after that 3:45am feed he slept until 7am..i put his soother in and he slept until 9am....i was actually up before he was and had a cup of coffee! i know i shouldn't get used to this either! but it'd be nice if he got into that routine!
Have any of you gotten your baby's halloween costume yet? We haven't...we looked but all the infant costumes seem to have been bought out!! the only place i've seen any baby costumes is at the childrens place...i think we'll have to buy something there..i was looking for something cheap from walmart or zellers but there's nothing there..i think i'm going to check out old navy?? maybe there's something.
well i better get going..troy is on my lap right now and is getting a little restless!
talk to u all soon!
S :)
Spanish 10-13-2005, 02:40 PM Hi S&J
I'm in the UK and I think Halloween isn't such a big deal here as it is in the States. But I was in a shop today and saw a little white babygro with a big smily pumpkin on it and the words 'Mummy's little pumpkin'. It also had a hat with a green stalk and leaves coming out of the top!! I just couldn't resist. LOL! We're going to take a photo of DD wearing it and then make them into cards to send to our families.
Spanish
kierrasmommy 10-13-2005, 03:34 PM I haven't bought Kaden's Halloween costume yet, I better get one soon I guess. Kierra is going to be a fairy princess. I saw a flyer last week with pictures of baby cotumes in it but I can't remember where they were from, and I would bet they are sold out like you said. Kierra dressed up every year..the first year I just took a picture of her next to the pumpkin, and the second year she went to one neighbours place more or less to show her what Kierra was dressed as, but last year she went trick or treating for the first time and had so much fun she didn't want to stop...needless to say she is excited for Halloween already.
Yeah, the other night when Kaden slept for 4 1/2 hours I woke up 1/2 hour before he did...it was 4am but my internal clock must have been wondering why he wasn't up yet so I went to check on him, got a drink of water then went back to bed for the 1/2 hour until he woke up...lastnight he didn't do as well, he fell asleep and was up 1/2 hour later, not to eat, I think he just didn't want to sleep in his crib, I tried a couple times to just put his sucky (pacifier) in and he seemed to close his eyes like he was going to sleep but he didn't so after 10 minutes I picked him up and cuddled him for 10 minutes then put him back to bed and he slept for 3 1/2 hours. Well, I gotta go, Kierra is calling me and Kaden just started crying, talk to you soon.
kierrasmommy 10-13-2005, 03:39 PM I found the flyer, it was from Zellers, they had infant pumpkin, ghost and kitty cat costumes that zip up and have a hood for $9.97 each. I'm going to maybe go there tonight and see if I can get one.
kierrasmommy 10-14-2005, 03:17 PM Well, I lucked out, I found a caterpillar costume for Kaden at Zellers, they were out of the pumpkins and ghosts and had a few kitty ones but the kittys looked feminine so we got the caterpillar, it is really cute, and $9.97 is pretty good.
Do your babies sometimes projectile puke for no reason? This morning Kaden was sitting in his bouncy chair while Kierra and I ate breakfast and all of a sudden he exploded...he puked all over himself and up to about 3 inches past his feet off the boucy chair! He wasn't fussy before hand so it caught me off guard, and when I went to wipe him up he was all smiles...silly little guy. I know he isn't sick, I think he just ate too much...in the mornings I bring him in bed with me so he doesn't wake up Kierra (during the night she sleeps like a log, but in the mornings she is a lighter sleeper) and he eats, but I sometimes fall asleep (very light sleep) so he can attach himself to the boob whenever he likes and I don't pay attention to how much he eats....what do you guys think, did he just eat too much? Needless to say he has now had a bath and is sleeping again...he gets sleepy after baths, and after I got him dried off and dressed it was my turn to do the same and he didn't like that idea so he worked himself up over it, as soon as I picked him up and gave him his sucky he was all sleepy eyed so I layed him right in his crib while he was still half awake...I'm hoping that will help him learn how to fall asleep on his own...I haven't heard a peep out of him so it worked so far.
Well, I hope all is well with everyone else, talk to you all soon.
Sarahj 10-15-2005, 04:43 PM Hi all-Sounds like there is progress being made with sleeping patterns. Tala is getting better as well. She gets up once between 3-4 am and goes to sleep at 9 pm most nights. I have to get her up at 6 am to get ready for daycare. She was a fussy last night from some pretty bad gas but still went to bed at 11 and slept til 4 am. Last night she slept from 4 am to 7:30 am in her crib. We are trying to get her used to the crib alittle more. Someone asked about "The Happiest Baby on the Block". We bought that book and it did wonders for her colic. It does have a lot on helping get healthy sleep habits as well.
Today we took the kids to get halloween costumes. Tristin is going to be Darth Vader, Piper is Dora the Explorer and Tala is a monkey with a banana peel on her head. The costume is going to be too big so we will probably have her in it again next year. Scott and I are dressing up this year as well. I am a tavern winch and he is a beer keg. It should be fun!!
Well, Tala is napping so I think I will too...talk to you all soon.
Sarah
Spanish...that outfit sounds sooo cute! I'm in Canada and where we live everybody dresses up and decorates their houses and goes trick or treating. Dh and I go all out with decorating the yard for the kids! I worked in a school so the kids make sure to come by our place :D
Kierrasmommy..we went everywhere today looking for costumes! And where did we end up getting it??? Zellers!! and what is Troy going to be...??? A caterpillar too! It's the orange one..:) I think Troy had an upset tummy today because he spit up more than usual or else he ate too much. Maybe that's why Kaden spit more too? We also bought the wedge from babies r us and the little fleece blanket thingy that they can sleep in..it zips up...his room is a little bit cooler than the rest of the house and if i crank up the heat dh and i are sweating up a storm and can't sleep!
Sarahj..Troy has the same sleeping pattern as Tala..at least for now! The last 3 nights have been great! It's nice to be able to sleep for more than 4 hours!
Well....I think i'm going to try formula again tomorrow morning so i can pump. Troy was eating at least every 4 hours during the day but now it's about 3- 3.5...and it feels like he's draining me everytime...my boobs don't even feel full like they used to....i hope my milk isn't diminishing? Also..when he spit up yesterday it had some yellow in it? I always thought that it should be white?
Anyways...talk to you all soon!
S :D
Boo Boo 10-16-2005, 09:24 AM Hi all,
glad to see this site is up and running, and glad to see you all missed me"!!":(
l have not been able to post as l have had my hands full with Annuam) she is now nine weeks old and weighs 11 ibs is that ok?
Im glad to see all you ladies are well and your little ones are good too, im kind of not into Haloween! although in the UK they celebtrate it big time!!
l wanted to ask if anyone has experienced a conditon called' cradle cap' l have been advised to wash my little ones hair without using soap with a sponge and then rubbing some mild oil in to the scalp. She has it quite bad and im not sure how it occured when l was exclusively breast feeding she was fine. She also has developed some kind of dermititis around her neck, its red and now has slightly bubbled up. I will be taking her to the docs, i think it may have been a reaction to some Johnsons baby wash (mild with oil init) that had caused it as l used it to clean Annuams neck. Her neck seems to complile some wrinkly stuff( yuck) its like a greyish colour)? or could it be the laundry powder? please help! Thanks.
kierrasmommy 10-17-2005, 06:01 PM Sarah,
Thanks for the book review...it was me who asked, I should be getting a call from the library today or tomorrow that it is in, I want to try "The No Cry Sleep Solution" too, I read about that one on these boards as well. Anyone try that one?
S&J,
Kadens is the orange caterpiller too, we have the same one! LOL There's not alot of selection out there for babies so I imagine there are going to be alot of catepillers this Halloween.
BooBoo,
I missed you! What do the nurses/Dr's say about her weight gain? I know she had a slow start so I don't think I would be too concerned as long as the nurses/Dr's aren't. Kaden has had the odd flaky day on his scalp. I use Aveeno bath/shower oil in the water and it helps alot...but if you bath her before bed rub some baby oil on her head then in the morning gently comb the flakes off and wash her hair again and it should help, you may need to do it a few times. Kadens isn't cradle cap, so I just wash with his baby shampoo then rub the Aveeno into his head and all over his body to keep his skin soft. Kaden has a rash under his neck too, it's probably from spitting up or moisture...Kierra used to get it and the Dr said it was from moisture from her spitting up/drooling, I try to change Kadens bib a few times a day to make sure it stays dry...or it could be a heat rash as well. Be sure when you dry her off after baths that you get into the crooks and crevises and between the baby fat folds to dry off everywhere, and when bathing be sure to get into all those places and wash them out to prevent skin fold lint...Kadens rolls on his thighs and under his chin are so deep I have to really work at it to get into those places. Hope that helps...
We went to my parents house this weekend....Kaden's first long rode trip...it's a 4 to 4 1/2 hour drive and I was surprised at how well he did considering he doesn't usually like car rides. On the way there I pulled over on the side of the rode twice to give him his sucky, and also stopped once to feed and change his bum, a couple times I reached back and put his sucky in his mouth. When we were there though he didn't want anything to do with my Mom so he was pretty cranky if I gave him to her...and because my Mom often ends up in tears too when babies cry she would promptly hand him back to me, so by the time we headed home I think both kids were so pooped out that they were much better on the way home. Kaden fussed for 10 seconds twice then fell asleep on his own, we woke him up once to change his bum and feed him and then he slept again for almost the whole rest of the way home, he was cranky for the last 20 minutes of the drive home...then lastnight both kids slept pretty good. Kierra woke up at 11am this morning, and Kaden was so good to eat and go to sleep in his crib...no fussing to be back in bed with Mom from him lastnight. Well, I should go, Kaden needs to eat before we go out. Talk to you soon.
Spanish 10-18-2005, 04:18 PM Hi Boo Boo
My DD has cradle cap as well. My health visitor said to rub oil into her head and then brush it through to lift of the flakes and then wash her hair. Like Kierra's Mommy said it will take a while to go but we've been doing it for only a couple of days and it's much better already. I don't know if your son has much hair, my DD doesn't so I've never bothered brushing it up to now but apparently the cradle cap is caused by a build up of the normal oily secretions from the hair follicles, so if you brush his hair / head every day it will stimulate them and stop the crusty build up.
Spanish
Sarahj 10-18-2005, 04:19 PM Hello Boo Boo!! We did miss you! Tala had cradle cap for a short time. It was really icky because she has so much hair. Her hair is almost 2 inches long on top now. I could scrub it and it would come off but it just got stuck in her hair. We used a product by "Gentle Naturals" It is especially for Cradle cap. They also make a eczema baby cream, baby itch relief, and a tummy soother. I used it each time I gave her a bath and it has pretty much gone away. Also, the bubbling you are talking about around your dd neck sounds like a build up of crusties from spitting up and moisture. Tala has that too...and it isn't easy to get it out either. She had a bad buildup behind her left ear from where she was spitting up at night after I put her down. She rolls on her left side when we put her on her back.
Well, I am going to take a nap...
Talk to you all later
Sarah
kierrasmommy 10-18-2005, 11:36 PM Hi,
Sarah did you have a good nap?
Spanish, thats good to know, Kadens hair is never messy so I rarely comb it but I will from now on.
BooBoo, how is her scalp doing, and did you get the rash checked?
I had an eventful evening, Kierra told me she had to blow her nose but couldn't get it and she asked me to clean her nose, so I looked and I could see something but it was deep, so I tried to teach her to blow hard, which didn't work, so I used Kaden's suction bulb on her, only to realize she had stuck a small soft plastic craft bead up her nose! I couldn't get it out, so we went to the Medicentre and they got it out, by then it was so close to the end of her nose I'm sure I could have gotten it out but I was already there so we stayed, I also got the Dr to make sure there was nothing else up there. Brat! I never thought she would do that but it seems to be a stage all kids go through, my nephew stuck a peice of foam from his pillow up his nose and didn't tell anyone for a long time, my sister ended up taking him to the Dr when she couldn't figure out why he smelled weird, turned out the foam was causing an infection from being in there so long...yuck. And last year I had brought Kierra to the Health Centre because she had a high fever and there was a little guy who had stuck a piece of foil up his nose. What makes them do it noone will ever know.
I have a question for those of you who pump...how much are you getting out each pump? And when you first started what was the amount....I have a dentist appointment tomorrow (cleaning and check up) so my sister is coming with me and she is going to take Kaden for a walk and watch him and Kierra while I'm in there, and if she can't handle him (he is a Mommy's boy and sometimes I am the only one who can settle him down) she can get the nurse to come ge me...anyhow I decided to pump some milk in case he gets hungry...this is the first time I have pumped for him, but I was able to get 5oz!!! I was shocked. With Kierra when I first started pumping, I was lucky if I got a couple tablespoons the first time and it took awhile for me to get up to 5oz in one pump...and I started pumping around now with her too...tomorrow Kaden will be 2 months old, after my dentist appointment I will go get him weighed...in case you are wondering why I weigh him so much it's because his babybook has a chart that goes by his age each month so in order to chart it properly I have to weigh him each month...I did with Kierra too so it's a good way to compare them....although he is growing faster by far, it's a boy thing I think. Then after he gets weighed I have to go to the library because the book (Happiest Baby On The Block) is in for me. Well, that's all for now I'll come post tomorrow. Talk to you all soon.
kierrasmommy 10-19-2005, 11:28 AM I forgot to mention...5oz from just one side!!! I am sure I could have gotten 9oz or more if I did both. My sister said everything works better the second time round so that's why I can pump more than I could in the beggining with Kierra...I don't know if that's true but I do know I was lucky to get 2 tablespoons from both sides when I first started with Kierra. And it took quite some time to be able to pump as much as I did lastnight. Well gotta go get the kids dressed so I can head to the dentist, talk to you later.
Boo Boo 10-19-2005, 11:37 AM Hi all,
Hope you are all well. We have our own problems to deal with and now it looks like we may have to deal with this bird flu epeidemic which has really worried me with a baby.
l am so mad l have been typing this message for 15 minutes and then l pressed something and it liked disapperaed so know l am having to retype ! :( im sooo mad)
Anyway, cradle cap has got better, have to wash hair again using baby oil and comb. However, did go to babies r us to get Gerbers kit they dont have it not sure if its exclusive to US think you can pourchase it from web. Here in the U.K. babies r us are not all that.
As for neck well Kierrasmommie you are rite l reckon whilst cleaning dd neck l may have neglected certain drying of creases? it has been really inflamed, and the white blothces ahve gone. However, last nite there was some bleeding from her neck like a paper cut type. I just applied oilve oil and placed some cotton wool over nite under her chin with a plaster ot hold it down. In th emorning the cotton wool had diapeared into her baby grow!! she moves tooooooooo much. I AM JUST WORRIED THAT IT MAY BE ECZEMA, . My husbands sisters kids have had it in the past and one had it real bad. My hubby has never himself had it. No one in my family has had it. the doc did prescribe me some cream but it contains some Hydrocortisine which is known to thin the skin so l have not used it I am thinking of using aloe vera gel fromt eh plant itself, this should be fine? its to apply to the back of dd neck which looks like a dry rash and is red. Please advise..
Thanks
Boo Boo 10-19-2005, 11:39 AM Kierrasmommie so good to see you are still exclusively breast feeding l breast feed my dd about 3 times a day now, and bottle feed the rest.
kierrasmommy 10-19-2005, 07:54 PM BooBoo,
Thanks, yeah, breastfeeding is going well. Today Kaden drank his first bottle of breastmilk, first bottle period...but he drank it. I had to switch the nipple once but he liked it after that, and he drank pretty much the whole 5 oz I had pumped, he spit up some but my sister had fed him so I don't know how much he spit up. We got him weighed today and he is starting to slow down now, he is 13lbs 13oz, he was such a wiggle worm and flirting (smiling) at the nurse that the scale didn't beep so she just went by what weight it showed the most.
Glad things seem to be better with the rash, I had a perscription for kierra once or twice like yours and it's fine to use as long as you use it sparingly and not for too long, once the rash gets better discontinue it....well I have to go Kaden is crying and DH sent Kierra to get me, talk to you all soon,
take care.
Kierrasmommy..i've gotten 6-7oz on one side! That's the side that Troy usually eats from...my other side isn't getting as full as it used to. Is anyone else experiencing this or are both your bbs full? I know i tried to offer both bbs at each feeding.
He's having a nap on his tummy right now..dh is watching him. I still dislike having tummy time b/c troy cries :( I thought that maybe because he's sleepy i'd try stick him on his tummy and when he wakes up he'll lift his head and maybe move it to the other side. He does sleep great on his back and that's how he sleeps....I only try and have play tummytime a few times a day but it lasts for only a few minutes because he cries.....I've noticed that his hair on the back of his head is starting to thin in one spot, so more tummy time is needed! I just reread this paragraph and noticed it kind of rambles on so i hope u allknow what i'm talking about!
Troy didn't have a bm for a day and the next day he went 3 times! And it was a lot! Can anyone suggest why this might have been? He usually goes at least once a day.
Well i better get going...dh says Troy is starting to wake!
S :)
Laur77 10-20-2005, 11:15 AM S&J; my son usually goes at least once a day too. A couple times though he has gone a couple days without going at all. Then suddenly it all starts coming, and he'll go several times in one day, and right out of the diaper (lovely). I don't know why this happens, he is BF, so wouldn't think he should be getting bunged up.
kierrasmommy 10-20-2005, 02:35 PM S&J, Kierra did that before (not have BM for a day or two then went quite a bit once she started again) I had asked her pediatrician and he said it's normal as long as she wasn't showing any signs of being constipated, in pain, straining etc. Kaden used to go at least several times a day (pretty much everytime he peed he'd poop too) and now he is down to once a day.
I went to the library yesturday and got the Happiest Baby On The Block book, I also got the No Cry Sleep Solution which I started reading lastnight, it sounds promising from the stories of success she discusses in her book, but I haven't gotten to the tricks yet, so I guess we'll see in a month or two. There is a story about a 3 month old in there who had success by day 45 of the No Cry Sleep Solution, so it sounds possible. Kaden is having more problems sleeping during the day and early mornings than he does first thing at night but I'm hoping he'll learn to sleep better after I read these books. Anyone else having problems getting thier babies to sleep well during the day? Kaden is sleeping in his swing right now but it seems like he doesn't sleep very deeply because I have to go to him several times to put his sucky back in, if he sleeps in his bassinette or crib he doesn't sleep very long at all. In the evenings he sleeps good because I've gotten into a routine of giving him a late evening bath, then I rub the nighttime lotion on him and get him dressed, top up his belly a bit and once he falls asleep I put him in his crib and he has been very good lately at staying asleep...the odd time he'll wake up, but most nights he falls asleep well, and even after feedings he normally tends to stay asleep, but once it gets closer to morning he seems to be a lighter sleeper and will wake up shortly after I lay him back in his crib, then I end up having to bring him to bed with me to prevent him from crying enough to wake up Kierra. This morning I tried to put him back in his crib at 6am after a feeding and he woke up within 5 minutes and wouldn't go back to sleep so I had to take him to bed with me, and once I layed him on my chest he fell right back to sleep. He sleeps on his tummy on my chest quite well, he turns his head from side to side easily too....in fact too easily, I sometimes have to gently hold his head down so he falls asleep and not plays around turning his head side to side. Makes me wonder if he would sleep well on his tummy if he does it so well when he sleeps on me that way, but I am so scared to even try it. I know I probably shouldn't be so scared because when we think of how many years all mothers used to put their babies to sleep on thier bellies before SIDS research said thier back is best...but I still am scared.
Well, I seem to be rambling, so I'll go for now. Any advice or feedback would be appreciated. Hope you all are doing well. Talk to you soon.
kierrasmommy 10-20-2005, 02:41 PM S&J How old is Troy now and how long have you been pumping, and when you first started were you able to get that much from one pump on one side? I seem to have the same fullness in both breasts but I recall being a bit fuller on my right side when I was breasfeeding Kierra. I wasn't sure if it was because I was right handed and slept more on my right side causing more pressure to make me leak more thus produce more on that side, but I just tried pumping more often on the less full side and starting feedings with the less full breast for feedings finishing with the more full side and eventually it evened out.
Well, I gotta go, Kaden is awake yet again.
Boo Boo 10-20-2005, 03:18 PM Hope you are all well,
Kierrasmommie,
Annaum is exactly the same when it comes to sleeping. I dont think she ever falls to sleep in her crib by her self in the nite. I breast feed her and then l have to rock her in my arms and then walk like a zombie to put her in the crib last nite l was literally an inch from placing her down and she started to cry :)
recently when she wakes up around 6 am or 8am after feeding l put her next to me in the bed which l dislike ! as l am so afraid (bed sharing) she will play abput then fall asleep as soon as she has l then move her.
Anyway Annaum has started to move around in her crib. Meaning dear ladies l place her in the middle on her back couple of hours later when l checked up on her she was lying on her back but diaganlly/ STRANGE? l then put her back in the middle and again later she had moved to the right hand side and was lying / HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS?
Boo Boo 10-20-2005, 03:26 PM Oh by the way is anyone using a pacifier /dummy l am not but was just wondering as we never ever have mentioned it ? to my records any way just wondering! :)
Laur77 10-20-2005, 03:38 PM Boo Boo
My DS does the exact same thing! I wake up during the night, and he is sometimes almost completely sideways in his crib! I do not use a pacifier, but only because Logan is not interested.
kierrasmommy 10-21-2005, 12:43 AM BooBoo,
Kaden is pretty good at night, he falls asleep while nursing then I just move him to his crib, I guess I am lucky that he does fall asleep and I am able to move him without having to walk or rock him, but early mornings he doesn't do as well with that, I don't like him in bed with me either, but I don't fall asleep, I rest...I'm too scared to fall asleep, or maybe it's just maternal instinct. Kaden is with DH and I can hear him screaming...definite Mommies Boy, so I'll make it quick, yes I do use a pacifier...I call it his sucky...he likes it now but it took a bit and even still sometimes I have to hold it for a few seconds before he takes it. Talk to you all tomorrow.
kierrasmommy 10-21-2005, 01:48 PM Hi, just a quick note for those of you who are having a hard time with tummy time...I thought Kaden was as well, but today right after he woke up (when he is usually in the best mood) I pulled out our Tiny Love playmat/jungle gym and he actually stayed on his belly for several minutes, then I was able to just roll him on his back and let him bat at the hanging toys and look in the play mirror, he's been on the floor for about 15 minutes now and is actually liking it, he even smiled at himself in the mirror...now I wish I would have pulled it out sooner. Talk to you all later.
Spanish 10-21-2005, 03:48 PM Hi All
S&J - If you are breastfeeding then really don't worry about bowel movements. My health visitor said that breast fed babies can go up to 10 day (!!!!) without a bowel movement. It's because they use up all the nutrients in the breast milk and there are no waste products. My DD usually goes about once a day and boy and those scary nappies!
DD is not great at sleeping during the day but we've been trying various ideas. One that seems to be working well is using white noise. I noticed it one day when I was expressing. She was in her chair and fussing quite a bit but when I turned on the (noisy electric) pump she went really quiet and drifted off to sleep. Today I put her chair next to the dishwasher and that seemed to work well and we've tried a de-tuned radio a couple of times.
DD also doesn't like tummy time, she holds her head up really well but she'll only tolerate a couple of minutes before she starts yelling.
Anyway hope you are all well.
Spanish
i tried putting troy on the breast feeding pillow on his belly and he did pretty good for a few minutes..i know he wasn't flat on his tummy but he did raise his head and look around a bit...i'm assuming this could work as tummy time?
Also...yesterday when he was eating he really wasn't staying on long...kind of sucking and then pulling off....it was like he wasn't getting enough milk...today i thought i'd try and give him some formula after he ate...well he must of had enough...because i didn't need to give him formula....he also spit up a lot yesterday..could this have been because he ate too much or something didn't agree with him? i also usually hear him swallowing and can hear the milk going into his tummy. I hope he eats better this afternoon than he did yesterday!
well it's a beautiful day and dh is home..so we're going for a walk!
kierrasm--how's it going with your dh??
hope you're all doing well!
Kiedy 10-21-2005, 04:42 PM Kierrasmommy,
My DS hates tummy time, so I did what you suggested, put him on his mat first thing in the morning, and infact he lasted there longer. After he gets frustrated I prop him on my pillow, buys extra couple of minutes, but boy is he ever angry to be there.
I prop his head to show him what he is missing out on ( his head control is pretty good, he can sit on my lap and all I have to do is just hold his back), or show him how to roll over, but he is not interested, lol. He likes lying infront of the TV or the fireplace, he is attracted to the light, though it actually looks like he is watching TV (already starting a bad habit). I just want him to roll over, what does a mom have to do, lol. He does everything else, that's expected.
My DH is somewhat better at night w/ carrying for DS, but is still pretty lazy w/ him in the morning, and as deaf as ever to his crying. I've gotten better at having him care for him too. There are times when I want to pick him up, and in last second I stop myself and think... NO, let DH watch him for a while.
Wether here is pretty lousy, hard to go outside when it's raining all the time. Hope you are all doing well.
Spanish 10-21-2005, 05:34 PM LOL Keidy. My DD seems to watch the TV as well...I have to turn it off to get her to turn her head away! I guess they are fascinated by the lights and colours on the screen.
Are there August Mums whose babies are rolling yet? When do most babies start to roll? My DD (now 11 weeks) is showing no signs of rolling, she's not even trying to turn over. Do babies kind of work up to it or do they just suddenly do it one day?
Spanish
kierrasmommy 10-21-2005, 07:27 PM S&J,
Kaden seems to do the same thing sometimes with breastfeeding, but I'm beginning to wonder if the milk just lets down faster and he gets his feeding quicker, or what? I will sometimes switch sides to see if that helps, sometimes it does. Or I'll wipe his face and my breast off (he gets both pretty wet) and that helps him out as well. I wouldn't worry about it if he seems fine otherwise. Thanks for asking about the DH situation, it is a bit better, Thanksgiving weekend he was awesome we did alot together and with the kids...but he did screw up once or twice after that and thats when I packed up and drove to my parents place with the kids for the weekend to give him time to think, we talked the night following our return back home and he seems to be better. He actually called just now to say he was stopping for a beer with a friend and would be right home..so he has progressed to at least calling and letting me know. DH fed Kaden a bottle lastnight too, his first time feeding Kaden, my sister gave Kaden his first bottle on Wednesday and lastnight was Kaden's second bottle. He takes it really well so now I'm not so worried about DH's Christmas party next month...My sister will be babysitting Kaden and Kierra so we can go to the party and I was worried about him not wanting bottles, so we will continue to give him a bottle from time to time, but so far he has no problems...as long as you don't try burping him before he is done, LOL. DH tried burping him a couple times lastnight and got an earful from Kaden.
Kiedy,
That's good that it seemed to help, all we have to do is continue doing it regulary so they get used to it, Kierra and I helped play with the toys for Kaden so he was pretty attentive to what was going on.
Spanish,
I looked in Kierras baby book and she was a day or 2 shy of 10 weeks old when she first rolled from tummy to back, so it should be any time for your DD. And Kierra was almost 7 months old when she rolled from back to tummy. I can't remember how it came about but I think she just did it all of a sudden, I don't think there was any signs of it coming soon...do you try showing DD how to roll? I remember when DD was on the floor I'd take her leg and slowly/gently swing it over like she would need to learn for rolling. But all babies progress at different rates some do it sooner, some later, I think alot of it has to do with how much tummy time/practise they get, and also their physique and strength. Let us know when she does do it so we can all celebrate. :bouncing:
Well, take care everyone talk to you soon.
Kierrasmommy--i'm glad to hear that your dh is getting better! Good for Kaden for taking a bottle! We're leaving Troy with my parents tonight as dh and i and some friends are going to a "haunted house" or project x as it's called in Calgary. This will be our first outting and Troy's first time taking a bottle without me being around to watch Dg (dear grandma) give it to him! He takes the bottle well too and i'm sure he'll be fine tonite! (I hope) I'm not sure how i'm going to be without him! But i think it'll be nice to be with dh as we haven't been out alone yet! :)
Spanish - Troy hasn't even rolled yet and he's almost 13 weeks. He also hates his tummy time. I think he was on his tummy once for about 1 minute and didn't cry..the rest of the time he did cry. He's not even close to trying to roll from tummy to back!! I'm trying not to stress about it but it's hard not to when other babies are rolling no problem...maybe it's because Troy is so big! I hope he'll be able to in the next month or so.
Keidy---Troy loves to watch TV as well....i don't think it's a bad habit because there are DVDs out there that are educational for them to watch (baby einstein) I think Troy will get some for Christmas! :)
Well dh and I are going to start putting out some halloween decorations...(we're kids at heart!) I hope Troy gets as excited as we do as he grows up about these things!!
Hope you're all doing well and talk to you all soon!
S :)
Sarahj 10-22-2005, 02:50 PM Hi all-looks like things are going well for everyone. We have been very very busy these days. Tala is sleeping 7 hours a night now and actually spent her first night with Grandma and Grandpa last night. They live an hour away, but my mom comes in town twice a week and picks Tala up from daycare. She keeps her for a few hours and brings her home when I am off work. Tala did wake up once around 1 am but my mom seems to think she would have gone back to sleep if she hadn't gotten up. She wasn't really hungry or crying so it is likely.
We are getting ready for halloween. All the decorations are up and the kids are excited about going trick or treating.
Spanish-you asked about rolling over. I am not sure what is "normal" for a child, but Tala rolls from her back to her side fairly well now. She is 10 weeks now. I think it is because we laid her on her side for so long when we brought her home from the hospital. When we started putting her on her back, she would automatically roll to her side. She doesn't seem very interested in rolling onto her tummy just yet. As for tummy time, she isn't a big fan of it. I don't press the issue much either, since she has really good head control.
Tala also seems to be noticing the TV more these days. We bought an aquarium activity center for her so she isn't tempted to watch tv. I have heard that too much tv watching at this young of an age can case hyperactivity later. She really like the activity center and I have noticed her trying to reach for the toys that hang down. Yesterday when I was giving her a bath, I noticed her staring intently at a comb next to the sink. She actually managed to grab the thing and it took some effert to get her to let go. That is something we will have to work on I guess. She sometimes wakes herself up when she grabs her hair and can't let go. She tries to pull her hand away but she is still holding a handful of hair.
Well, I am going to get a nap in before I have to take the trip to pick up Tala...seems like I just can't catch up with my sleep no matter how hard I try.
Talk to you all later
Sarah
Hi again....
Troy doesn't even roll on his side yet....only once..i've been trying to encourage him to but he doesn't. He doesn't even try to grasp at things either. I'm going to talk to the dr about all this when we go in for his 3 mos appt...i'm starting to get concerned now since younger babies are doing much more than him!!
Sarahj--i wouldn't let troy watch tv for a long time...he only looks when we're holding him or is in his bouncy chair and i'm on the phone..doing quick housework..etc....even if he did watch tv i don't think he would watch for long since i heard babies don't pay attention long to many things...know what i mean? But i heard the dvds are great and are very short..it has music and lot's of colors. Congrats on tala sleeping 7 hours! Troy is too..sometimes even 8!
Well...we;re going for a walk and need to start getting ready to go to G&G's..
talkto u all soon!
S :)
kierrasmommy 10-22-2005, 05:48 PM S&J,
I think we have something similiar here in Edmonton for Halloween, I saw a preview of it on TV and it looks spooky, have fun. Last year 2 houses at the end of our street had constructed a haunted house between both their yards and took donations for the food bank for admission, it was pretty good, scared the c%&p out of me. It was actually better than most haunted houses I have ever seen. They did really good. I'm sure Troy will do just fine, Mommy will be thinking of him more than he is of her I'm sure. We decorated for Halloween a few weeks ago...I think I was a bit gung ho about it because I was the first one on our block with decorations. People kinda looked at the house strangely...I hope they were just admirring our good job. LOL
Everyone should try not to be too concerned about how soon their babies do certain things, like I said all babies do things at their own pace...I learned that when Kierra was a baby (there were 4 of us within 6 months of each other who had babies) all the little ones were doing things at different ages, Kierra rolled before 2 of the other babies, but one of the others walked way earlier than Kierra. What one baby may do later in one task compared to other babies his/her age, s/he will also be doing different tasks earlier than others as well. Kierra rolled and talked earlier than her friend Sarah, but Sarah walked and potty trained earlier than Kierra. Hope all that rambling made sense.
Sarah, Did you do anything to help teach Tala to sleep that long? I am reading the No Cry Sleep Solution and I have already been doing alot of what they suggest. But I am still in the beginning of the book so I still can learn more. I have also noticed Kaden is trying to reach for things, last week I put him in his swing hoping he'd fall asleep while I did dishes and I could hear one of his hanging toys that hang from his swing rattling away like mad, I though Kierra had snuck out of bed and was playing with him but when I went to look he had figured out how to bat at his toys, I also have a stuffed frog stuck between his change pad and the wall and he was trying to bat at it the last couple days...he has also pinched me on a few occasions and today pulled my hair. LOL. And the best is all the smiles we get now...except at 4am this morning when he should have been sleeping, but it still made my heart melt. Kierra used to pull her hair when she was mad and she too couldn't figure out how to let go, I ended up keeping those scratch mitts on her to prevent her from pulling her hair, and scratching herself, and also to keep her hands warm, I have to for Kaden as well, because he scratches himself and his hands get cold easily.
Well, I should go get some reading in or maybe a nap, DH just left to take Kierra swimming and Kaden fell asleep in his swing. I'll talk to you all later.
OH! I keep forgetting to mention, I think my hormones have started making my hair fall out now, not alot but enough to notice...is 8-9 weeks postpartum when you started noticing the same thing?
Laur77 10-22-2005, 07:10 PM Logan has not even come close to rolling over yet. He will be 3 months Nov.2. I wouldn't worry about it, I don't. I know he'll do it when he is ready!
Sarahj 10-23-2005, 03:23 PM Kierrasmommy-I think the only thing we have done to help Tala sleep longer is switching her to her swing and making sure she is burped thoroughly before putting her down at night. If she doesn't burp well, she wakes up at least one extra time. She has pretty much worked up to sleeping longer over time.
I agree that babies will develop differently. There are many things that effect development of babies. I wouldn't worry about how your child "measures up" with any other children.
Gotta run...we are having friends over and we need to make a trip to the grocery.
Sarah
Kiedy 10-23-2005, 04:10 PM For those of you who breastfeed, I have a question.
The last time I feed my son is around 9:30pm and then next time is at earliest 4am, but can be as late as 6 or 7:30am. Sometimes I could prolong it longer, but my breasts are killing me, they are so full. Does that get better, can my body adjust to that decreased demand at night?
kierrasmommy 10-23-2005, 08:08 PM Yes, your body will eventually learn when you need it and when you don't once your little one gets onto a routine feeding time.
Sarah, does she sleep in the swing all night? You have given me hope that soon I will be sleeping more than 4 hours at a time. LOL
Laur77 10-23-2005, 10:16 PM Oh no! I thought the batteries in the swing were dying because it was barely moving. So I changed the batteries, and same thing. When I took Logan out and then tried it, it worked fine. He is already too heavy for it to work properly!! This was the only way he would take a nap during the day. Guess I'll have to find a new trick!!
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a Graco open-top swing (or similar brand) and know what the weight limit is? Ours is a hand-me-down, and I don't have a manual. I was just curious to know what the weight limit is supposed to be. Thanks!
Spanish 10-24-2005, 09:10 AM Keirra's mommy: Yes about the hair loss! Mine if coming out in handfulls. I hope it slows down soon or Im not going to have any hair left! I think it started a couple of weeks ago and I'm now nearly 12 weeks PP so I guess it started about the same time as you.
Keidy: I'm with you on the night-time breast feeding. DD sometimes goes through the night now and when she does I'm always awake before her, in agony and soaking through a load of breastpads! I don't know if our bodies will adjust but I have found that it helps to express just before I go to bed so that my breasts are empty and then I get up and express again if they are too painful in the morning. In the morning I don't express too much because I know DD will want to feed soon - just enough to reduce the pressure and make them less painful.

Boo Boo 10-24-2005, 10:16 AM Hi,
Well as for tummy time Annaum isok for about a minute, the rolling a small towel. soft sheet and placing it under her arms and neck is good l suggest you try it if not already done so.
Annaum is still having problems trying to go to sleep early do any of you ladies find it hard to get your babies to sleep before 11.30 pm? l take anaum up at 9 pm and get her ready for bed with dim lights feed her etc? she may sleep for half an hour and thne is wide awake! HELP! im thinking of udoing th ehoover tip when you record the hoover on a tape and play it!
As for hair falling out well i did notice 2 days ago my hair falling in the shower, and then when l combed it a bit fell and just now it fell out too not loads but becuase its quite long it seems like a lot. l am takin gmy anemic tabs too. l was thinking of dying my hair as l have not coloured it for a year and geting it trimmed for next week? So your advice will be helpful ta :)
kierrasmommy 10-24-2005, 04:42 PM Laura, How much does he weigh? I know I recently had to change the batteries in pretty much everything that Kaden has. LOL And his swing and bouncy chair both wouldn't work with batteries that had been in use before...I didn't have batteries in the house so I took them out of other things that the batteries worked in and it didn't work, but once I got brand new batteries it did....example I took batteries out of his fish pond crib toy and put it in his chair and it didn't work at all even though his fish pond still works. So you may just need a fresh set of batteries.
BooBoo I tried to put Kaden to sleep earlier lastnight and it didn't work...I guess you really do have to gradually change their bedtimes over a week or so by starting the bedtime routine 15 minutes earlier every other night. Well, gotta go, Kaden is mad because he can't see me. Talk to you all soon.
Hi all!
I'm so mad!! well not quite! I just finished typing and it took like 15minutes!!!!and i deleted it!!arghh!
anyways...
Troy did great at G&G's! he had a bath..took his bottle well and made it through his 15min of fussy time. DH and i had the bejeeses scared out of us but we enjoyed our time out and looked forward to coming home to Troy!
Yesterday we went to visit some of Dh's relatives and his grandma from outta province was there. It was quite a visit! Troy had rosey cheeks yesterday and she commented on that and immediately stuck her finger in his mouth and said he was teething..she couldn't feel anything but said he sure was sucking on her finger. She then proceeded to her van and got some ovalgel or whatever it's called and stuck some gel in troy's mouth..i had NO time to react..or read the package or even say no!! She also said that breastmilk isn't good enough for babies and he should be on pablum by now...can you believe it??? I know that troy was alittle fussier than normal..it could have been from being somewhere new and different people holding him...his cheeks could have been red from being hot and i'm sure he would suck on anything that gets shoved in his mouth!! even if he could be teething i'll leave that up to his dr. to suggest that to me!! Needless to say dh and were glad to come home!
Laur--we don't have that brand of swing but i think they all might have the same weight maximum? ours says to discontinue use it the child is very active and appears to be able to climb out and is over 25lbs. How big is Logan now?
We;re going for troy's 3mos appt tomorrow..it'll be interesting to see how much he's gained since last time! he's also starting to last a ittle longer during tummy time...about 2-3 minutes..i know it's not a lot but it's something right!? :)
well i had more to write but my piano students are here!
talk to you all later!
S :)
kierrasmommy 10-24-2005, 09:49 PM S&J,
I've had that happen a couple times...type a long post then go to post and it loses everything!
Don't you just love the kind advice of old fashioned people. My Mom tried that a few times when I had Kierra and eventually gave up after I got mad at her each time and I would explain how and why things have changed and that I was right not her...needless to say she told my sister I had post partum depression because of my reaction to her constant meddling. :blob_fire Even this last trip up to their place I was trying to do something and my Mom had Kaden who was crying (I honestly think he sensed her uneasiness and it made him cranky every time I gave him to her) anyhow I caught her at the last second just about to dip his sucky in honey...I stopped her and told her not to because it's unpasturized and he could get sick from salmonella or something like that and I also don't want to get him into that sort of bad habit either, she kinda made a face but followed my orders not to. I think because that is one thing they always did when we were all babies they figure it didn't harm us so why not?
If he is teething he will have a small swollen bump where the tooth is coming out, sometimes it is red but it can also be white from the pressure of the tooth pushing up. I remember a couple times looking in Kierras mouth and I could see a tiny grey line in the middle of the lump where the gums beneath the surface had already started to separate, usually a day or 2 later you'd feel the top of the tooth, if you are ever unsure if it is a tooth that has come up take a small metal baby spoon and rub or softly tap the spot and if the tooth has broke the surface you will hear the clinking. I used fold a cloth into 4, and dip a folded corner in water then freeze it, then baby could hold the dry part and chew/suck the frozen part for comfort....but Kieera was 9 months old when she got her first tooth, so she was able to hold thigs herself.
I sure hope Kaden gets his teeth late too. Well, gotta go talk to you tomorrow. Take care.

Logan is about 17 pounds now. I didn't think that would be too heavy for the swing, especially since he is still in the reclined position. Hasn't even advanced to the sitting-up position! I tried brand-new Duracell batteries, but still dosen't work when he is in it. Maybe the swing is just getting worn out, as it is a hand-me-down!
Kiedy, yes your breasts will adjust. When Logan started sleeping longer, I had the same engorgement problem. Eventually my body adjusted. Last night he slept longer than ever, and my shirt was absolutely soaked this morning (I had given up the pads at night when everything adjusted). But boy the sleep is great!!
Laur77-yeah the swing could be getting worn out...but they sure are a great thing to have hey?!
Well we're off to the dr today...i'll let you all know how it went! Troy slept from 11-7:15 last night....and i'm still tired!! IT's hard to imagine that he would only sleep an hour or 2 the first 3 weeks of his life!!
My heart melted this morning when i went to get him..he was smiling away :) Well i better get ready as he's down for a quick nap.
Talk to you all sooon!

kierrasmommy 10-25-2005, 02:09 PM Kaden slept for 4 hours lastnight. LOL. Just thought I'd celebrate with you both. LOL. This morning he had about 3 minutes of tummy time and then when he got mad I rolled him over and he played with the dangling toys for another 15 minutes. He is great with back time. Well, that's about all talk to you all soon.
Sarahj 10-25-2005, 06:39 PM Laur77-When you turn on the swing, are you giving it a little push? I know with our swing you have to get it started. It is possible it is just getting old, but if you just replaced the batteries it should work.
Kierrasmommy-Yes, Tala sleeps in her swing all night. She has been sleeping in her crib the last few nights, though. We thought it would be a good idea to get her used to it now. The swing we have has a 5 point harness system so we put her in the living room and use the monitor to hear when she wakes up. It has done wonders to help me sleep since I am already a light sleeper. By the way, I understand just what you mean about your mom. My mom has taken a long time to get used to Tala. She was very uneasy at first and Tala always cried when she held her. My mom also did something I can't believe anyone who has ever had a child (let alone 3) would do. One time when Tala was really hungry and I was working on her bottle, my mom took off the nipple and went to stick it in her mouth. Of course my reaction was to yank it out of her hand and yell "what are you doing?" She has gotten better with time. We actually sent Tala to stay the night last weekend. Of course, my dad was there and he would never let her do anything like that. She did just fine this time..other than trying to feed her every 2 hours. Tala eats every 4-5 hours like clock work.
Well, gotta get going on dinner.
Sarah
kierrasmommy 10-25-2005, 07:11 PM Sarah,
I tried to see if Kaden would sleep longer in his swing and he wouldn't so he likes his crib, he just likes Mommies boobs too! Definately takes after his father. LOL. Oh well, in time. Kierra was sleeping for 5-5 1/2 hours straight at this point, but I guess Kaden just needs to eat more because he is so big. Yeah, my mom had 4 kids and enough Grandkids you'd think she'd be a natural, but in her older age she is a bit of an old grump and obsessive compulsive personality and she can't stand babies crying...when we went for a drive to visit some relatives when we were there last, despite me trying to give him his sucky several times, Kaden cried all the way to the place we were going (only a 10 minute drive)....my Mom ended up crying too.
Laura,
I was wondering if adjusting the recline would help at all, maybe with it being reclined and the way his weight is distributed it can't get the momentum it needs to get going and stay going. Try sitting the seat up to the next notch or two.
Well, I too have to go get supper going and finish dishes...the darned dishwasher decided to stop working lastnight so until we go dishwasher shopping I will be having dishpan hands. As if my hands weren't already dry enough from all the times I wash them throughout the day after diaper changes and whatnot.
Talk to you all soon.
Sarahj 10-25-2005, 07:38 PM I forgot to mention...since Tala uses her swing so much, we bought a rechargeable battery system. It cost about $20 for the system and $10 a pack for the batteries. It is a savings in the long run since she uses the swing so much. We were replacing the batteries every few days.
Talk to you all later...
Sarah
lol @ kierrasmommy about the dad liking the bbs!! :) My dh seems to have no problem having some time with them but my views have changed for the moment as "they're" just for food and drink!! :)
Well Troy weighs 15lbs 11oz and is 24 inches long! He's a big boy! with some big gopher cheeks!! He's not teething and after 2 days without a bm he went today and BOY was it smelly!! I think he feels much better!
Have any of you found your babies eating up a storm all day and then they sleep longer at night? I was concerned that he shouldn't be eating every 2-3 hours at this age but i guess it's because he sleeps longer at night time and is more hungry during the day to get that extra amount. He's also found his thumb and sucks away on that, but when i see him doing that i switch it to his soother..i'm assuming there's no harm in that...i don't want him to get too used to it.
Well..i better get going!
Hope you're all well and check on you all later!

Kiedy 10-25-2005, 09:38 PM I took my DS for check up today too, I was curious to see how big he was. He weighs 16lbs and is 26 inches and his head is 43cm, no wander he can't roll over, w/ a big head like that.
S&J my DS now poops every 7 days. When he does though, it's like the whole day every 3hrs. I really don't know where he stores it. I think he lost a pound yesterday just by pooping so much.
Oh, my "no-cry sleep solution" book came yesterday, so I've been busy reading it. I had no idea that if your baby sleeps 5hrs at night (from midnight to 5am) it's considered to sleep through the night!!! Who's idea of sleeping is that??? I'm going to be working on having him fall asleep w/o his pacifier, b/c he always wakes up when it falls out at night, which is such a pain. I tried today before his naps, boy was he mad, the book said it wouldn't work and to start at night, but I thought I would give it a try.
Laur77 10-26-2005, 08:53 AM Kiedy, what day was your son born? Sounds like their stats are pretty close. Logan is 17lbs, 26 inches. He has a huge ****** too. I can't remember what the measurement was, but it was WAY off the charts! My mom says babies with big heads are smarter...I think she made that up, lol!
S&J, yes my son eats quite a bit during the day, and sleeps through the night. So I am pretty happy with that!
As for the relatives, I've decided if it is not causing Logan any real harm, I'll just let it slide. For instance, I'll tell my mom he does not like to be cuddled that way, or he doesn't like his arms under the blankets. She'll do it anyway, but Logan will let her know!! The unsolicited advice is great too...just gotta bite our tongues to keep peace I guess.
Laurie
P.S. I guess there was something wrong with our swing. Hubby fiddled with it, now it works again. Yea!!
Laur77 10-26-2005, 08:54 AM That word that the moderators starred, was another word for HEAD, not something dirty?????? Weird.
kierrasmommy 10-26-2005, 12:39 PM Hi all,
Glad the swing is working again.
I keep forgetting to mention a few days ago when we first discussed the BMs (or lack of for a few days) I think you guys jinxed us because Kaden hasn't pooped since then. LOL, It's been at least 3 days. But I know Kierra did the same thing and I am preparing for when he does go...Kierra would poop so much she'd explode out her diaper.
The cluster eating during the day is normal when babies sleep longer at night, in the No Cry Sleep Solution they even suggest trying to feed baby more during the day to help them sleep longer at night.
OH!!!!Kaden went 5 hours between feedings lastnight! I fed him at 12 midnight and put him in his crib at 12:15am...when I went to bed I looked at the clock thinking I'll be up again at 3:30 or 4 if I'm lucky so when he woke up and I looked at the clock at saw 5am my eyes just about popped out of my head  . I hope this is a start. But I know he was pretty cranky lastnight. We had a window company come do an estimate then right after that the Canadian Baby Photograghers come show us our pics (and yes, we got suckered into buying...but I wanted to have pics of him too since we did it for Kierra...and the guy let me substitute 8X10s for more wallets and a cd of all the pics so I am happy) Kaden was quite irritated that I couldn't lay down and let him sleep on me...he'd wake up every time I layed him down on his own, he just wanted to sleep on my chest lastnight and because I was busy I was just holding him, so he was fighting going to sleep until he got his way. But once we did his nighttime routine and I got him to sleep he did great, he even slept in his crib until 8:15am...then he wanted to sleep on me so I had to bring him to bed with me, but I needed to get up at 8:45 so when I got out of bed he only slept for another 5 minutes and was up...but he went back to sleep in his swing and is just waking up now after 1 1/2 hours...so gotta go. Talk to you all later.
Sarahj 10-26-2005, 07:29 PM Laur77- Glad to hear the swing is working again! The swing has really been great for us. Tala slept in it last night and she slept from 10 pm to 6:45 am. She doesn't always sleep that much but usually at least 6 hours.
Kierrasmommy-Glad to hear Kaden is starting to sleep longer periods too. It is funny how the more sleep I get, the more tired I am during the day. I guess part of that is the fact that I went back to work and can't just relax when she is sleeping.
Well, got dinner in the oven and the kids are getting hungry...
Sarah
kierrasmommy 10-26-2005, 09:26 PM Hi,
Sarah I am still tired too, but I think it's because when Kaden is in bed with me I don't sleep, and Kierra has been waking up earlier the last week or so. I'm hoping to catch up on some sleep soon, DH will watch the kids one weekend morning or one evening so I can get some sleep...I'll just make sure I have some earplugs ready.
I took the kids to a movie today, my sister decided to come at the last minute too. Once a week they have something called Stars and Strollers where you can take your baby and enjoy a movie. They have tables set up with diapers and wipes and you park your stroller and watch the movie, most people there are Mommies with babies so if your little one cries noone gets annoyed. Today it was the movie Dreamer...the one about the race horse. It was ok, Kierra got bored half way through but she was good, I wasn't sure how she'd do but because she likes going to horse races I thought she might enjoy it. Kaden was good as long as I had him, my sister wanted to hold him but once I handed him over he hollared for Mommy so it wasn't very long.
Well, that's about it....Oh, I stopped to look at dishwashers today and Kaden decided to fart quietly just as the salesman walked up, so I'm sure I was blushing from embarrasment, my sister thought it was pretty funny..do your baby's farts smell? Kaden reaks as bad as his Dad.
hi all...
Troy had some major stinky farts on the days he didn't poop..when they got really bad i knew that he'd be pooping soon and no kidding he decided to push hard in the dr's office..letting out some foul air and finally after 2 days...a big loong bm! I was soooo happy...i don't think any non-mommies would be this excited after a childs bm but i'm sure you all know what i mean! lol :)
Anyways..my shows on...gotta go
talk to you all later!!!
S :)
kierrasmommy 10-27-2005, 02:07 PM I forgot to mention yesturday...after my first post when Kaden woke up in his swing and I went to change him he did poop...so he must have ESP and sensed I was talking about his lack of BM's. LOL But he still stinks when he farts. And it only gets better when they start formula and solids.
Kaden slept like his usual 3-3 1/2 hours lastnight so the 5 hours was shortlived, but tonight I am going to try and keep him awake longer and feed him more often (even when he isn't demanding it yet) and see if that helps. But he is getting better at falling asleep on his own...lastnight he woke up when I was walking him to his crib and was wide eyed by the time I layed him in it, I patted his butt for a bit then left the room, I only had to go in 2 times to put his sucky back in and then he fell asleep....today for his nap I put him in his crib tired but awake and I only had to go in once before he fell asleep so he is getting better. Well, I gotta go we are going to visit a friend of mine so I'll chat with you soon.
P.S I finished the No Cry Sleep Solution, so now I'm going to review it and take notes and see if I can copy the charts they provide for your use. Then I will try implementing the suggestions she had that I wasn't already using...I was surprised that alot of what she discussed I was already doing...I guess that may be why I have been lucky enough to have both my kids nurse and go right back to sleep for me at night, no marathon nursing sessions or having to drive around the block or walk the halls for us...I am counting my blessings.
Sarahj 10-27-2005, 04:00 PM Ok yeah, Tala stinks big time. She has always had a lot of gas and she is formula feed, which I understand makes it worse. My boyfriend is always saying he can smell her farts a good 30 minutes after she lets one. It doesn't really bother me, I guess my sense of smell isn't as good as his.
S&J--I know just what you mean...I remember when I was breastfeeding hoping she would poop. I would be excited when she did since I would worry after a while. I didn't breastfeed for long, but I do remember it. Now Tala poops every morning before we leave for daycare and again in the evening, right bef |
