View Full Version : Husband has Antisperm Antibodies...help?

My husband was diagnosed a week ago with Antisperm Antibodies (ASA). As you all can probably imagine, we are pretty devistated and somewhat confused. The doctor has put him on antibiotics for a month because he said a type of antibody they found might suggest he has an infection like prostatitis. If this doesn't work he has said we would need IVF w/ ICSI ($$$) and we're obviously praying that's not the case.

What I'm wondering is if anyone is familiar with our situation and if you or anyone you know has had success with antibiotic treatment? Or what the generic success rate is for this? We won't know for 90 days unfortunately.

Do you know of any other treatments besides antibiotics. Are there suppliments or anything that could help? There is not a lot of information online...it all points to IVF w/ ICSI.

Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

Jennifer

Hi! I had a similar situation. On my 3rd IUI, they found my husband had over 10 million white bloods cells and they were concerned because he should not have had any. They put him on antibiotics for 21 days, then did an ASA test on us both and it turned out fine. The dr. said he probably had an infection and didn't know about it. I'm doing my 4th IUI today, but have already done the work-up for IVF. My husband had a lot of other sperm issues so we are going to do IVF w/ICSI if this IUI doesn't take.

Thanks Heather so much for your reply. His analysis is normal other than the ASA so if perhaps this is an infection, and the antibiotics work, we might be OK... You've given me a little hope for this antibiotic thing, so thanks so much!!! :bouncing:

I'm sure sorry you're having problems... We just got this news last week so I'm having my first taste of what it feels like to wonder if I'm ever going to have a child. l feel so bad for everyone on here because it feels so rotten! Good luck with your IUI and IVF/ICSI if you have to do that too...
