My boyfriend has been having very severe arm pain. He says when it hurts, it's a pain from the tip of his thumb to his chest. He had tests done and it proved it had nothing to do with his heart...is it possible that there is some sort of nerve damage? I'm not sure if this makes much of a difference, but he is only 18. His pain is almost always there, and advil does little to help it. I'm really worried, so if anyone has any advice or insight on this situation, it'd be much appreciated. Thank you!

Is he also having any sort of neck pain or muscle pain in the neck or upper shoulders?Any numbness and or tingling type of sensations?it is quite possible that he could have some sort of problem in the C spine area due to a bulge or herniation or bone spurs.he should really see his doc about his symptoms. They can do a simple x ray to see if anything is out of line and then do a possible MRI to check on the inside structures(soft tissue and nerve roots)of the spinal column. If I remember correctly, the thumb would correlate with the C 5-6 vertebrae.it would be worth checking into this possibility.please keepme posted.FB

It does sound like radiculopathy. Can his MD give him a referral to a Neurosurgeon? Or if his MD could approve a cervical MRI directly and see if he has a bulging or herniated disc, that would be good for starters. You might get more responses in the spinal disorders forum here.
