What happens if you are miss diagnosed for bipolar and you are given lets say Lamictal and wellbutrin for 6months?

and you start to show real signs of bp.. like mania {up all night for 2 and 3day.} when in the past you have NEVER done something like this.

My husband is bipolar but in the years gone by compared to the last 7months there is no comparison. before meds he would go on spending sprees.. and then be depressed for 4 and 5days where he would not speak to a sole. then he would be fine for a couple of weeks.

But now since he has been medicated he is a mess.. cant sleep for days at a time.. his mind races . his depressions arent nearly as bad.

Does anyone know about this. thanks melissa

Read my posts about bipolar III disorder on the "cyclothymia/BP II" post directly underneath yours. If you have any further questions, I'll try my best to clarify! God bless!

Does he have a bipolar doctor?
Seroquil helps my mind slow down, I take it at night and it helps me sleep.
a good diet might help (no drugs, alchol, and caffine)

Exercise eases symptoms of anxiety and depression

By Mayo Clinic staff

If you have depression or anxiety, you might find your doctor prescribing a regular dose of exercise in addition to medication or talk therapy.

"There's substantial evidence that exercise can enhance mood and reduce symptoms of depression," says Kristin Vickers-Douglas, Ph.D., a psychologist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. "It's not a magic bullet, but increasing physical activity is a positive and active strategy to help manage depression."

Yes he is on Seroquil at night and now for when he is mania.. and it does seem to help. But why is he doing this now and not in the past 15 years that we have been married?
thanks for your post

Is he under a lot of stress at work? Is he going through a mid-life change? Sometimes it takes a change in ones life; stress, death, small event (concert, vacation, business travel, etc.) getting married, birth, kids getting older, etc. to trigger the symptoms.

I have BP II rapid cycling. I did not have a full blown episode until I was 32 years old. It was a very significant episode too. Before that, I was very hypomanic before I was placed on meds but was always dx'd with 'major depression' and given the wrong meds, which made my mania even worse. So, I was not a fun person to live with. I was severly hyper, grouchy, irritable, moody, and depressed all the time. My DH put up with a lot, and how he stayed married to me is unknown. What a dear man he is!

My heart goes out to you because you recognize he is going through this right now. He needs your support. Don't lose your hope for him. Continue to get him help, if it is possible. You also must take care of yourself through this because you too, are a person who matters as well. Do you have kids? If you do, take them to a friend or family members house for a while. You need a break.

You will be in my thoughts...

Take care
