I currently take .50mg of klonopin at bedtime every night. It has very much helped with my severe anxiety. Tho I still have breakthru symptoms and take ativan as needed. My Doc said that when I feel comfortable, I can try taking a klonopin during the day as well. I am a stay at home mom and I wonder if this will make me too tired.
Anyone out there take it during the day? Does it exhaust you?? I already have fatigue issues (I also take a beta blocker four times a day). The ativan doesnt really make me tired, but would like to stop taking it if possible and just take the K. I also worry if I try it, say on a weekend, and it does make me tired..will going back to the .50mg cause withdraw symptoms??

Hi Cheers44,
I used to take .5mg of Klonopin 3/day. One in the morning, one in the evening, and one at bedtime. I know that when I take ativan I get knocked out. So I'd say go ahead and try the Klonopin during the day and see how it goes. Although everyone is different, my experience with Klonopin has never made me tired to the point where I couldn't work. I'm trying to get off it now because I was taking it for a long time and am in week for of coming off of it. Before you go off it make sure you talk it over with your doctor first because this drug is known to cause bad withdrawl symptoms. Let me know how things are going and good luck!

Hi Cheers,
I take .5 mg in the morning and .5 at bedtime. For the first week or so I was a little tired during the morning hours but I have adjusted to it. I also take Paxil in the morning.
When I first started taking it in the morning and it was making me tired I would have my husband wake me up at 530 when he left for work and I would take it then and go back to bed until about 7. That seemed to help a little bit. Now I just take it when I get up at 6:30 and I am fine.

hi i take .25mg (half a tab) two times a day ..like morning and again around 3:00pm or so...then i take 1/2-1 tab again before bed...i find sometimes i have a heartburn feeling in the morning so i may adjust the nightime 1/2 tab a bit earlier in the evening. As far as been tired..the 1/2 is such a low dose...my doc said i could experiment trying diff amts at diff times of the day...not exceeding the daily dose of course...but i find the above morning afternoon night to be best ...good luck

Oh god yes, I have been diagnosed with panic/anxiety for over 10 years now. I have seen MANY professionals LOL. I am currently in therapy twice a month and see a psychiatrist about meds once every six weeks or so.

Hello Cheers and others,
I started on klonopin about two years ago after suddenly experiencing very anxious/panicky type feelings everywhere I went. I just couldn't shake the feeling of being uptight. I didn't have any thing out of the ordinary going on; I have two sons and a caring husband. I had been dx with a thyroid disorder which later I found out that; an inbalance with thyroid hormones can cause anxiety etc...
I had already been taking the klonopin for a while before I found out about the thyroid issue. When I first started on klonopin I took 1/2 mg. maybe 2xdaily. I thought it was a miracle; I was sleeping better and not feeling spaced out in the morning. That hadn't happened in a long time and I was able to do my everyday errands etc. I still had a major fatigue issue but that is due to thyroid/systemic mastocytosis (two diseases) that is another story all together.
I know there is talk of K being so addicting but I also know that my life would be functioning at about 20% as opposed to 75% without it. I have never used k just to use it. I have never needed more that 3mg in one day. Sometimes only 1mg a day. Everyone is different and for me it has helped. It has also helped my debilitating headaches. I still get them just not as often and they don't last for 3-4 days. I can't take many medications due to my rare disorder of systemic mastocytosis; Rash/hives/trouble breathing/headaches just to name a few.
For me I don't get too tired if I take 1mg. during the day if needed. Anyone with questions regarding klonopin (for best information) should talk to their Doctor. It is nice to be able to share information and get others opinions etc. on different medications etc..:) Klonopin in my personal experience has been positive. If I have had a bad day or I know things are headed to getting much worse or am actually in a panic I have taken 2-3 mg before and that was when I was at home and knew I would be able to go to bed.
Some people take up to six mg. daily and for them that is a perfect dose. It depends on your own personal situation. I don't have anything negative to say about this medication because it has helped me when nothing could and I was an emotional mess.
Take care I hope this was of some help:)

I had my first Panic Attack at 12 in 7th grade: thought I was dying!!! They abated but came back right after I graduated from HS in 72: so bad I couldn't leave the house without throwing up. Finally sought treatment in 1980(when it was finally recognized as a Disorder.)Before that they were "anxiety attacks." I was put on Valium which helped, then Ativan, which was better, then Serax,Librium....you name the benzo I've been on it. FINALLY in 1990, a Dr. prescribed Klonopin...What a difference!!! I started out on .25 just once a day and was to always carry an "extra" just in case. Well... after several years down the road & some further adjustments,..my dosage is 3 1mgs a day..plus an extra half at night if I need it to sleep. You do develop a tolerance for it over time. I'm glad to report I haven't had a full blown attack in a couple years. The trade offs have been: short term memory problems, weight gain with the higher dose, and COMPLETE loss of intererst in sex. (I alo take 5mg of Lexapro, so that may be contributing to all of the above also.) In any case, Klonoin has been a lifesaver...I expect I will be on it for the rest of my life. Believe me, the trade-offs are worth it for the relief I get. I know the singer Stevie Nicks was on it for years(don't know the dosage)& she said the withdrawl was worse than her withdrawl from cocaine. (She was in detox for it and said she was sicker than a dog & that if any Doctor offers it, RUN THE OTHER WAY!). Well the gal has a right to her opinion!!!! :p

no, the weight has pretty much stayed the same. I suspect I am at my nomal weight now & that I was so thin for so many years because of the Chronic Anxiety & Panic Attacks. Also I'm 51 now & EVERYTHING is going! I wish you luck: losing weight is difficult & frustrating. Also as I indicated, could be the Lexapro that has given me most of the weight. My dose of Klonopin was fairly low until 1999.
