What were some of the health reasons for having a hysterectomy? I am miserable with my periods. Anxiety, stabbing pain, IBS, heavy bleeding. I have thought about having one if it would help.
Thanks,
Jacq.

It is done for medical conditions, but you said you have stabbing pain bad periods and heaving bleeding?
Is you doc aware of these problems?
It could be Adenomyosis. This causes heaving bleeding, stabbing pain severe painful periods enemia, it can cause your stomache to swell. I know, I had it. You would need a Laparoscopy to check to see the size of the uteris. Usualy it would say it is enlarged and boggey which usualy means Adenomyosis or fibroids.
You can also have a MRI. That may also show an enlarged uteris or mass.
I had a MRI 9 years ago do to a back injury and it showed that my uteris was enlarged with a mass. My iob just went and put me on the pill.
I always had horrible periods.
A year ago I got real sick, ended up changing OB and had a Lap. It showed a Enlarged and Boggy uteris as well as other problems I was having.
I had a hyst everything removed but my cervix this past march.
Pathology confirmed Adenomyosis of the uteris. It deffinatley had to be removed. But the problem with this disease to realy dx this condition, the uteris has to be removed and checked out by pathology.
I am 39 years old and don't regret the hyst I had 5 months ago.
How old are you?

I had mine due to fibroids, heavy periods, major cramps.

For three years I was seeing a ob/gyn who kept telling me I was in perimenopause and this was just how it was going to be for me.

Each month I was getting one or two periods. They would last 5 days and be so bloody I became anemic and very weak. The blood would flood the bed at night and my husband once looked at me and said..."how can anyone bleed that much and still live". It was also the clots. Huge clots and intense menstral cramping. I was wearing super tampons and a big pad and having to change every hour!

I went to a different doc and we talked Endometrial Ablation, and that sounded wonderful to me, it would stop that flow, and I was all for that. I went in for my pre-op appt for the ablation and she did a digitial exam, and then a internal ultrasound and saw that I had 4 fibroids. One the size of a 4 month pregnancy, the other three crowded in beside. My bladder was smashed by the fibroids...No ablation for me, it had to be hysterectomy.

One month later...I have had the operation, I am 2 weeks 1 day post op. I had a few setbacks with the bladder procedure that were not so good, but now all is going fine. Other than an intense fatigue if I over do, I feel I am healing well and quickly. I had an abdominal removal, as my fibroids were too large to remove it vaginally. When they got in there they found adhesions and scar tissue they had to work to clean up. I ended up having to have a total hysterectomy due to scaring and adhesions.

All in all, I know my quality of life just too a huge leap to the better! :D

How old are you?

I am going to be 44 on the 16th of this month. I too have a lot of the perimenopause symptoms. It's a drag.

Thanks, Jacq.

I had my hysterectomy in july of 02. I had the baggy uterous and the veins in my uterous were as fat as a pencil when they should be no bigger than a strand of hair. I was in so much pain. I had jsut given birth to 29 week twins and i was told that i could not carry anymore children that it would not even make it to 29 weeks. I was lucky to get that far with my twins that are healthy little 4 yr olds now. I thank god every day for my hysterectomy. no more pain no more painful periods and i do not have to worry about a disaterous pregnancy that would only end in heart ache.

I'm scheduled for hysterectomy on the 7th of november. Endometriosis since i was 15 im now 39. Scar tissue wrapped around my pelvic organs- poss. adhesions and poss adenomyosis ?sp. Probably should have had one years ago- my fault for not complaining enough. Finally told the dr I cant put in a tampon, forget about having sex, I feel like i have to pee constantly-like when your pregnant-2days of labor intense cramps every month-my job threatening me that i will be disiplined for taking so much time off-1 good week out of the whole month-period starts and stops for 4 or 5 days before it come on full force-I just about screamed when he examined me- All of that was enough to give the option for surgery.

I had very large and painful firbroids, I would bleed so much at times I would go to the ER room because I felt so lightheaded, I was very anemic. They would load me up with IV too from being dehydrated. The last straw was I went to the ER for my usual IV of saline, and much to my surprise they told me I needed multiple blood tranfusions immediately, that I could not leave the hospital or I would would die, how is that for a wake up call.

I had to have my hysterectomy before I had another period, and after suffering since I started having my periods, I am happy to say it was the best thing I ever did.
