I tried Cholestrak twice and compared the results with the test run by my doctor's lab. They were not even close. I think there is too much room for user error. Also, this product only shows TC, not LDL/HDL/Trig breakdown. These figures are also useful to know. Since I am on a statin, I will be getting future lipid panels done every 6 mos. at my doctor's lab. It was an interesting experiment but not worth the price for such off-the-mark results. I will not be trying any more cholesterol home-testing products.

shopgirl,

I think CardioChek models are probably the best but they are NOT cheap. THe tester will set you back around $200 (I believe) and then each test (for cholesterol, HDL, or triglycerides) requires a test strip that costs between $2 and $3.
Most people say the ststem is quite accurate.

I've never used the system because of its high price but several people in this forum have reported reliable and convenient results.
I judge it to be most useful to micro manage HDL's and find out what makes the level go up and what down!

If I fell into a pile of money I didn't need, I buy the system, but alas my health insurance costs a bundle and as long as I have it, I might as well let the doctor draw and test my blood.
