I am on 100 mg of Zonegran a day and I have been taking it for about 4 months. I recently started taking classes at a University and I can't concentrate at all. I am failing horribly when I used to get straight A's. It seems like it is just getting worse and worse and now it's even giving me a hard time at my job (which is a simple front desk sort of job). I don't know what to do because the last medicine I was on, Lamictal, I had a severe allergic reaction to and this is the only side effect I am having on Zonegran. Does anyone know if taking a focus factor kind of drug would help or if I have to talk to my doctor about it first?

My daughter also had awful concentration and memory issues on Zonegran. My son does well on it. HEr issues did not come in until she got up to 300 mg, but everyong is different. Some people have good luck with adding a med to help with concentration. If zonegran is helping control the seizures, you might ask the neuro about another med. I know it stinks to add a med to take care of side effects from the med you need....
Hang in there!

I had complications with Z as well, but it was due to weightloss and a secondary drug's levels being excessivly high. My problems started around 200 and 300mg/day during the rampup. My destination dose was 400. However I was having weightloss that I was not monitering. Check your weight is my suggestion and see if there is a loss that you shouldn't have had.
Also when I was toxic on the Teg Dilantin, Keppra, Zonegran mix my vision was one of the major parts effected. Reading became almost impossible. Balance also kicked in and I needed a cane to walk. I had to crawl before I obtained the cane. I was eating normal, but the weight was comming off faster than I could put it on.
I hope you can find a solution. A similar relative drug to Z is what I ended up on after Z, Topamax. It doesn't cause the weight loss as much; but it does hase an effect I had to learn how to deal with. Topa causes the body (mind?) to think it is not hungry and you tend not to eat. I had to learn how to deal with that when I was put on Topamax.
