View Full Version : Bon Marrow Changes

I had an MRI on my knee to detect a meniscus tear. I guess, during the evaluation of my MRI, the tech, doctor, whoever reviews these, noticed a change in my bone marrow in my knee and suggested I receive the appropriate lab work to correlate whether this change is secondary to anemia or blood dyscrasia. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Leukemia does run on my mother's side of the family beginning at about the age I am now, (51). Do you know of anyone who has been diagnosed with Leukemia thru an MRI?

Hello! I don't know the answer to your question, but I wish that I did. If you find an answer, please let me know. I had an MRI done on my spine for a herniated disc and was told that my bone marrow appeared to be hypercellular on the T1 weighted image. When my orthopedic surgeon saw the MRI films he told me that my bone marrow looked very unusual and that he'd never seen anything like it before and that I needed a bone marrow biopsy. Two hematologists later, I still haven't had a bone marrow biopsy. The hematologists didn't seem overly concerned and said that all I need to do is monitor my bloodwork. Is your bloodwork normal? Mine is normal so far and I was told that you can't develop a blood disorder if your bloodwork is normal. I don't know if that's entirely true or not, but that's what I was told. I currently have my blood drawn every three months. Please keep me updated on anything that you learn. I haven't been very successful in finding an answer. Good luck!!

After almost a week later, I have now had my blood taken: CBC, Pt1 and Pt2. I don't know what the Pt1 and 2 are. Do you?

It looks like PT stands for prothrombin time. I looked it up on webmd and they seem to have a pretty good explanation. This is what the website said: Prothrombin time (PT) is a blood test that measures how long it takes blood to clot. A prothrombin time test can be used to screen for bleeding abnormalities. There is more information on the website if you wanted to look it up.

Now it seems like I bleed easily when I get cut or scrape a scab, but in a few minutes I do clot.

If your CBC was normal, almost impossible you have Leukemia. They will find BLAST cell in your blood if you have Leukemia.

I am not a doctor but if I am not wrong people with hereditary anemia usually have congested bone marrow. However, they do live with anemia normally during their age, only sometimes they need supplement.
